University of Florida Top Questions

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Courtney

The most frustrating thing about my school is that although it is extremely hard to get into, it is not technically considered an Ivey League school. I put in an overwhelming amount of work in high school to get where I am right now and although I was accepted to other universities with more prestigious names than the University of Florida, I did not have the financial means to attend those schools and I wish that UF had the same amount of recognition for what it really is - an amazing University with all of the potential of Ivey League schools!

Weston

I worked hard to get into the University of Florida in order to open the opportunity to live at home while I am in college. While it is a common goal among teenagers to seek to escape their family and home in college, the economy has forced me to learn more realistic priorities.

nadine

The most fustrating thing about the University of Florida would have to be the financial aide department. The department sometimes lacks organization and can be very time consuming when trying to resolve a students financial aide.

Christina

none

I believe the most frustrating part about the attending the University of Florida is the recent budget cuts that have limited the funding for certain colleges. I believe our institution has room for improvement in the way that our money is spent that would enhance the academic success of the University of Florida, make school more affordable, and allow more funding for certain professors and/or colleges.

Alyssa

The most frustrating thing about my school is the overcrowding problem. UF is a great school and many people want to attend, leading to many classes becoming crowded. This makes it difficult to learn to the best of my ability as the classes have too many people for the professor to effectively teach. The libraries and student union are also crowded, making it somewhat difficult to find places to study on campus, especially due to the lack of parking for so many students making it hard to get to the library and to class on time.

Kristine

The most frusterating thing is the fact that I know so many brilliant people are turned away from it, just because of GPA and test scores.

Corey

Some of the pre-requisite courses are large (100 + students); which makes it diffuclt to build a repore with professors. Espeically if you are having a problem undertsanding the material.

Shanna-Kay

The lack of communication between faculty that is supposed to help students and the students who need help.

Gonzalo

Hard to afford when financial aid doesn't cover the costs

Lorraine

Nothing really.

Megan

The most frustrating thing about the University of Florida is the learning environments. Classes are usually held in large lecture halls with up to 400 students per lecture. This learning environment is very distracting and in my opinion hinders the learning of many students.

Christian

The most frustrating part about my school is having to appy for almost every organiation on campus. At my public high scool we didn't have to do that. It feels like it's almost impossible to get involved unless you were already extremely involve in high school, which I wasn't.

Bridgette

My campus is in Miami, FL, which is quite far from the Gainsville campus, where all of the school spirit resides.

Courtney

The most frustrating thing about UF is that getting involved socially means having to really know how to manage your time and complete all schoolwork before socializing. Staying in school is a top priority, but everyone wants to make new friends along the way.

Janine

The most frustrating thing about my school would have to be the amount of fast food restaurants located on campus. Every time you turn a corner there is some type of unhealthy choice for you to decide upon on. As a feshman this becomes an issue, you're new to the environment so your getting adjusted to the college life, and your always moving around so that unhealthy choice always seems the fast and easiest choice. I wish the University of Florida somehow incorporated healthier choices on campus so I wouldnt feel obligated all the time to make bad choices.

mona

THe dorms too, they are nice, but single rooms are best such as Lakeside or Keys, apartment style with a kitchen and batroom to share with 2 or 4 others is much better than a double dorm style where you share communal bathroom with 26 other people and 1 kitchen. Another is the the wifi, theres no wifi in the dorms, its all via ethernet cord! Running around with your laptop around campus you pick up wfi, but theres no wifi in your dorms...

Brittany

The University of Florida is a very, large school. It is very difficult to get to know your professors without being perceived as the typical grade-focused, neurotic student. Additionally, creating an intimate learning environment is equally as difficult due to the high number of students present in foundational courses. However, if you are ready to dedicate yourself to create that bond with a professor, then it is not impossible.

Amanda

That professors are sometimes more concerned with their research than their teaching abilities. Grad students however are very good at teaching and make things very easy to understand.

Michael

The most frustrating thing about this university is that it is so large. While the diversity is beautiful it is difficult to find a professor who will take some personal interest in your education. It is difficult to find students to relate to when you have no common ground besides the 50 minutes you have with each other. It is difficult to find a place for yourself in so large a university, to be part of a meaningful community.

Irene

The most frustrating thing about my school is that the town it is located in is not an enjoyable place to live. There is not much to do and the town is not very lively as I hoped it would be. I am use to cities like Fort Lauderdale, where I am from, because I find it more uplifting and motivating to be in "fast-paced" settings.

Jennifer

The most frustrating thing is the paperwork. Filling out papers for majors and minors, but needing to wait until you have a specified amount of hours, getting signatures and apporvals. It might be frustrating, but it is necessary-- so all I can do is follow the guidelines and be patient.

Wendy

The most stressful thing about my school is the amount of students. There are over 50,000 students and sometimes for a freshman coming out of highschool it can be overwhelming for me. The class sizes are huge and it is hard to comprehend and pay attention when I am used to a 25 person class.

Brandon

The most frustrating thing is that it is sometimes very difficult to register for the classes you want..

Robert

The most frustrating thing about my school is the parking on campus. Since parking lots are scarce on the campus, it is very difficult to obtain a parking spot. On top of the limited parking, the University disburses over 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of allowable parking permits to students. This means that if you are able to afford a $250 a semester parking permit, the probability of actually being able to park comes down to less than 30{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. The savior of this faulty parking system is the RTS bus route transportation system, which is dissmal as well.

Colleen

Nothing. The online business program is awesome.

Jose

Registering for classes is always a hassle. Usually you do not get the class during the time you want it.

Kim

There's not enough parkings and lack of food varieties.

Kalindhi

Most clubs have meetings at 6pm.

seth

trying to get financial help

Jacob

The most frustrating thing about this school, for me, is the lack of scholarships for someone like me. My family's income lies just above their financial need standards, and there aren't any scholarships open for second generation Israelis. This has forced me to search elsewhere for scholarships, and has put financial strains on my family. Other schools in the state were offering me up to $10,000, but because I decided to attend the better school, I lost a lot of potential scholarships.

Nicole

Nothings geeally frustratig just really time consuming

Cecilia

The most frustrating thing about my school is that the University makes it very difficult to be a full-time student and a full-time employee. It's very difficult and stressful to work a full-time job off of campus and keep up with a 14 credit course load.

Kyle

No school is spared when it comes to budget cuts. Students are not given enough financial aid to achieve and are given the run-around by financial aid counselors. The school is too big for the small staff to handle.

sophia

surge of people when fall semester starts again, no parking, long lines, crowded hall ways during peak hours

Alexandra

The overemphasis placed on the importance of greek/fraternity/sorority involvement and the manner in which these groups determine the majoirty of the decisions made in terms of student government.

Jaquelyn

The administration can sometimes be very unhelpful, especially when it comes to advising.

Andrew

Clearly, the most fustrating issue on campus is the number of students that attend this school. With over 60,000 undergraduates and graduates it becomes nearly impossible to develop a relationship with a professor. Moreover, if you begin to dig yourself a hole academically, it can be nearly impossible to emerge again with the students competiting for your position. There also are not ample research opportunities available for students.

Meaghan

The most frustrating thing about my school is that most of the business classes are online. It is very hard to meet new people in the classroom because most students watch the lectures online or do not watch the lectures at all. You don?t even need to watch the lectures because there is a company located in the city of Gainesville that summarizes all of the lectures for you. It is also frustrating that there are only three classes that separate the different business majors.

Elizabeth

The only thing that I find frustrating at my school, is the fact that some classes have too many students in them.

Kristin

How liberal the students and faculty are.

Deema

The distance between the administration and students

Carly

The overemphasis on science and the extreme neglect of the liberal arts/fine arts! Everyone here seems so focused on providing funding for the sciences (and sports) while the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences is suffering from millions of dollars in debt. Teachers are cut all the time from the program while more are hired for research/science because the president believes that this strategy will make it a top 10 school.

Ashley

It is hard for clubs and organizations to get private rooms to hold meetings and events in.

Sarama

It can be pretty impersonal at times.

Meaghan

The most frustrating thing about my college is that there isnt enough ideological exchange. I dreamed that I would go to school and I'd discuss issues of morality, religion, politics, and more with my friends and peers. That has not been the case. My school is predominantly conservative. However, there is not a strong encouragement of an open exchange of ideas. I have found it difficult to find friends that are willing to openly discuss and debate ideas.

Julie

Academic Advising and Parking/Traffic.

Katherine

The most frustrating thing about my school is that it is extremely competitive in both academics and athletics. This competitiveness sometimes takes away focus on what is truly important (e.g. family and friends) and brings out the worst in people.

Danielle

The most frustrating thing about my school is that the budget cuts are servely affecting the integrity of UF. They have resulted in a brain drain of our brightest professors and thus affecting the quality of education the students are receiving. Elective classes and several language classes have been cut because there is no room in the budget for them.

Patrick

The most frustrating thing is probably the cops that sit at stop signs to pull over bikers. I mean come on, I'm sure there's better things for you to be doing. It's really discouraging for people that want to ride their bikes but not end up with 150+ dollar tickets.
