The location and atmosphere at UNR are unique. Reno is a unique town to live in and offers many recreational and educational activities. We have the Truckee River, Lake Tahoe, the Sierra Nevada Mountains for skiing and snowboarding during the winter, etc. Reno also has many academic and artistic venues. Artown is a popular attraction, there are also performing arts, art galleries, etc. The University of Nevada itself offers a diverse selection of programs, classes, and extra-curricular activities in an attempt to accomodate for all groups of students. We have everything from Basque Studies to Wolf Pack Radio.

It is a very fun atmosphere. There is a serious campus life, and off campus you can relax and have fun.

Kali

UNR is situated in a really amazing place. It is surrounded by majestic mountains, soggy meadows, jagged cliffs, pulsing rivers, and open land that is ready to be explored. Because of this, UNR attracts many different types of people with a common interest of taking advantage of Reno and Tahoe's natural beauty. Most students at UNR spend their downtime at the mountain resorts or relaxing on the beach of Lake Tahoe, both of which are activities that most other students from other schools cannot partake in.

Brannon

UNR is a relatively small campus with a small population. The classes are not too big and this is conducive to learning. I have been in huge lecture halls before and they are typically unruly, loud, and frustrating.

Tara

My university is unique mostly due to its proximity to various recreational resources. The college is less than an hour drive away from Lake Tahoe, where water sports, boating and swimming is available. Also, we are in close proximity to casinos, bars and clubs for the socially inclined students. It snows a lot in Reno, therefore snowboarding, skiing, and other winter sports are a common practice. Overall, it is the location that makes the college stand out from the rest. The price for tuition is pretty reasonable as well, making it appealing to those who cannot afford much for education.

Mark

The location of UNR as well as the low cost of tuition sets it apart from most universities. I chose UNR because I would be able to attend college without accumulating massive debt while also getting a good education in a good location.

Kelsey

We have a very unique environment here in Reno. It's great to be so close to the mountains, but Nevada is also a desert. The wide range of weather conditions is great.

Chloe

The campus vibe is so laid back and casual, the class rooms are always weloming to students participating, even for students who tend to be more shy. UNR is a pretty big school, but by being active and involved, I really felt that it was smaller by the time I left. Campus life is great, you get to really know you peers.

John

Reno, Nevada provides a very unique setting for college. It has all of the conveniences that one might find in a larger city; however, it also maintains the comfort and feel of a smaller town. There's an active scene for those who enjoy the night life as well as tons of outdoor activities for those who are more inclined toward those types of activities. For these reasons, UNR is a very fun and diverse campus, and you never run out of things to occupy what little free time you will have during college.

Loretta

As an Engineer Major, I am truly impressed with the programs the School of Engineering offers. There are clubs specific to each major that help students in areas regarding their major. We have ASCE, ASME, IEEE, and more. The school also include students in events such as the Concrete Canoe Competition and the Human Powered Vehicle. This allows students to learn and to get involved in activities they are interested in.

Elisabeth

The school spirit at the University of Nevada, Reno sets in apart in many ways from other institutions. Not only are athletics a huge outlet for students to come together but also the overall environment of the campus. There are many opportunities for students from all different backgrounds to come together and find a common interest or purpose.

Chase

The convenience of the city and the close proximity to a variety of climates.

Chantelle

MY SCHOOL IS UNIQUE BECAUSE OF ITS LOCATION. IT IS ONLY A HALF HOUR DRIVE TO TAHOE, AND A TEN MINUTE DRIVE TO DOWNTOWN.

Nati

What is unique about my school, that it is not far from my home/family. It alows me to see my family often than if I were far away going to school. There are jobs in the casino business that provide students to be able to pick up a part time job and go to school part time. For example, I was a bartener for two years and was able to save enough money to help pay for my first two years at the university. Also, there are only two universities in the whole state of Nevada, UNLV and UNR.

Stephanie

I like the design of the school, all of the buildings are beautiful and made out of red bricks. It is much different from Hawaii, where I am from. I also like the fact that they offer a lot of extra curricular activities, such as intramural sports, multi-cultural clubs, and student government. We have a variety of different programs and what is unique is that the students are able to create their own clubs if they want to. And with the many clubs, its easy to make friends, do community service, and have a good time.

Greg

Most other schools that I considered were popular and I picked them because of the location and what all that I could do being away from the parents rather than the program for my major. UNR is different because I know that it has a very good engineering program and although it was a backup school it is good because it is still a good distance away from home for me to experience what its like being on my own.
