Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

No

Parties: Through the cycle of Dean's and the Powers that Be, we have experienced many party school phases. In reality, UNH is not a huge party school. Sure, we get down on the weekends, but come Monday we've cleaned up pretty nicely. UNH's student population is spread out through three small towns, and some towns may party more than others. UNH is located in Durham, and Durham is usually pretty quiet. It is a family town with a very small main street. If the "scene" were bigger, and there was more of a town to explore, I think it would be seen as a big party place. Of course, this doesn't mean we aren't fun! Academics: We are a research school, and one of the only three Universities in the country that gets funding from NASA for being big on science and space. A lot of time and money and attention goes into certain science programs, but that doesn't mean it's a school for people interested in only the sciences. The liberal arts program at UNH is very popular and makes up a large percentage of the University. Many people at UNH dabble in several fields, and like to mix things up. Some people study forestry and business at the same time. Some study music and math equally. Some focus on language and culture, while others are content with family studies. The diversity of academics is what makes UNH a really interesting school.

Ashley

I don't think it is as accurate as people think. I don't think UNH parties more than most other schools. It is a college, there's definitely going to be drinking and partying but I do not think it is more than the average.

Katrina

I think theres people who like to have a good time, but who get their work doen as well! So no I do not believe this

Erika

UNH Students do like to party, but they are also very motivated hardworking students

Stacy

All are true, except for the party school point.

Not necessarily, it is said that every stereotype is based off of some sort of truth,, but in general stereotypes are very exaggerated and unfair. For instance there are many non-hicks at unh, and plenty of students who drink just as much if not more than greeks.

Nicole

I do not believe in any way shape or form that these accusations and stereotypes are true. I know from personal experience that our house has to maintain a specific GPA and we take pride in our academics. When you are a member of an organization such as Greek Life, you take pride in upholding a positive image and name for yourself.

Kelly

Of course there are some people from small towns but it is not representative of our entire campus population

Alyson

No not at all. All of them are false.

Shannon

for the most part, yes

Ashley

N/A

Sarah

No. Like most stereotypes, these hold some truth but not enough to make it completely true. There are some lazy, hippie-like kids, but there are tons of other types of students too. Not to mention all of the students that go here that don't fit this stereotype at all.

Vicky

No

Alicia

Yes and no. For the majority it is, but if you do not wish to partake in the "party" scene then there are some other things you can do.

brie

All stereotypes are derived from somewhere and someone. It is a matter if you choose to be the stereotype or change it.

Andy

To some extent but not really.

Samantha

UNH has very little diversity on campus

Megan

no

Hayley

yes

Alex

I would say NH as a whole is pretty liberal. It is very untrue that a majority of people are hippies or earthy crunchy. I would say that it is pretty true that the students party hard. I wouldn't say that there are excessive drugs.

Christina

Not at all.

Grace

I think a fair amount of the stereotypes are accurate

Stephanie

There is a lot of diversity at UNH. People think of diversity and automatically assume race. There are many other forms of diversity and UNH educates thier students and faculty on diversity as well. We are not that big of a party school, our own students have the wrong preception of what really goes on during the weekends. As for Hippies, we have so many different type of people at UNH, and yes "Hippies" are here, but so are many other social groups.

Shannon

Honestly, I haven't really experienced the hardcore party-scene. I believe that the majority of students actually balance their social time and schoolwork decently.

Andy

for the most part

Micaela

No

Whitney

For the most part.

Michelle

No

Jackie

I don't see that side of UNH. Of course, I am also a nursing student and we don't have much free time to go out. Even my freshman year, though, I never really heard about "huge" parties going on.

Rach

They are pretty much right, most people love to go to the hockey games but not all people on campus party a lot.

Sarah

Yes

Tristan

Yes, most of these stereotypes are accurate.

Andy

Not really. I'd say we party hard and study hard. We don't all hate UMaine...some of us grew up in Maine.

Jackie

No

Abby

We do drink a lot, but being ranked #7 Party School by Princeton Review isnt an accurate representation-- its just that being up in New Hampshire theres not a lot else to do besides drink, We are very smart- its relatively hard to get into school here and the science and business programs are two of the most prestigious in the country. A lot of people in new hampshire are hippies, but we also have lots of preppy people, ghetto people, whatever- its just that hippies may be the general population. We live indoors-enough said. Just like beer, people smoke the same amount of weed as at other school, and we ARE really fuckin' good at hockey.

Rach

Yes some of these stereotypes are accurate, not everyone is the same but in general they are true.

Hayley

No. Some people are heaving drinkers, not everyone. Some people are smart some aren't. Some people are jocks, some aren't.

Ryan

some of them

Gene

I believe that the school is not a "hick" school and very well rounded. I also believe there are many resources and activities for the students to do on and off campus.

Brianna

I think everyone plays up to their stereotypes to a point, but I mean they got into college somehow so they must not be that dumb. There are so many people who go to this school, it is easy to find somewhere to fit in.

Ryan

yes

Sarah

No.

Michelle

-WSBE is a very good business school -has turned more into a bar school than a house party school -Greeks do a lot of good things for the communities

Racheal

Not as a whole.

Ryan

I dont think it's as big of a party school as people make it out to be. From my experience it's no different than the majority of other colleges.

Nicole

I don't think that UNH is any more of a party school than any other college or University. Perhaps our large class sizes account for more partiers compared to smaller schools where a bigger percentage.. but smaller number of students party.

Becca

I don't think that this is accurate. I think UNH is a great school and isn't all about partying. UNH is challening but also helpful in teaching their students what they came here to learn.

Katie

for some people
