University of New Hampshire-Main Campus Top Questions

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

Steph

Some people make these stereotypes accurate, while others do not at all!

Meghan

To an extent these stereotypes are true but who doesn't have each one of these on their campus

Ashley

No

Katie

NO

Katie

NO

Ryan

no i do not think so

Laura

Some of them are. The partying is a little out of control and the slackers aren't hard to find. It is sometimes tough to find the hardworking, dedicated kids, but they're out there. There are also lots of people from other states (mostly Massachusetts), but diversity is not very common here.

Ryan

in some cases

Ashley

I think there are a number of different types of people, which makes it diverse.

Ryan

I do think that UNH is a big party school, but I also believe that this can be avoided and you do not have to engage in these activities to fit in. I do believe that the UNH police can be a little bit harsh at times although I have not experienced it myself. I do agree that this school is big into hockey.

Jaime

no

Emily

I do not believe these to be accurate. I believe that there is a very diverse population among students and it is possible for everyone to find a group they fit into, it just may take a little searching.

Mireille

Not necessarily, UNH is somewhat cheap since it's so expensive. UNH students obviously party a lot but it's not completely out of control.

Andy

These stereotypes are completely false and there is actually a wide range of diverse students that attend UNH and even though it is a big party school it is not any worse than any of the other schools.

Nicole

Some

Kate

Like every school, there ARE big parties and big partiers on campus... but that's not all that there is to UNH. You'd be surprised to learn how many students do not drink and do not attend parties on the weekend. Even the fraternities aren't bumping with parties... due to a strict Greek Advisor for the school, fraternity parties are almost non-existent on campus anymore.

Sean

Yes

Jackie

To some extent.

Jeff

Yes.

Jordan

No. Greek life is big here and they are accurately associated with the party scene, but the other ones aren't really true.

Mary

No, of course, some people are like that, but there are many very intelligent and interesting people here with a wide-range of interests from music to environmental conservation to traveling.

Bridget

UNH is definitely a fun school, however, it's important to say that UNH has so many great things to offer aside from it's social life

Ann

somewhat

Ray

UNH has a lot of activities to offer its not all about partying

Ainsley

Not entirely, some students do drink a lot though.

Megan

NO. Yes there are parties. Yes people go out and get drunk and do really irrisponsible things. But the majority of students either do not go out, or if they do, practice safe drinking habits.

Quinn

Yes. Another stereotype would be backwoods, rural students living in a small college town.

Amanda

Yes to some degree. The number of arrests, drunken injuries, blackout bars, and poor decisions definitely seem to reflect our #7 party status. There are some rich bitches- but if you can learn to look below the surface you will find that most of the girls have beauty AND brains here. The greek system is a little out of control- but it makes you appreciate the nontraditional/nontrendy kids even more. It is sad that there isnt much diversity here- but I think most people expect that when they move to New Hampshire.

Emily

half accurate, half not.

Sarah

I believe they are. While I am not involved in the Greek system, I have numerous friends who are and drinking 3-4 times a week is not even a question.

Kristin

To an extent, yes. It's not quite as bad as the stereotypes make it seem, but the majority of students are white and preppy.

Rachel

For the most part, UNH is a pretty crazy party school (I heard we made #7 on the Princeton Review!). If you aren't into that kind of thing, however, I have never seen a school with more alternative activities. There are so many different things going on at UNH on a typical weekend, that if you do not want to join in partying, there would be a long list of other things to do. From what I have seen and heard, we deserve that spot on the Princeton Review!
