University of Portland Top Questions

What's unique about your campus?

Samantha

The greatest thing about my school is the strong sense of community I feel on campus. Going to a small school allows for small class sizes, which gives my professors and I the oppurtunity to have a relationship. I am able to talk to them one and one and make sure I really understand the material the best that I can. The professors really care about my learning experience and want to make sure I do well in each course. This helps me not only do well, but helps me feel safe and welcomed in so many ways.

Briana

All of the classes are small consisting of no more than 30 students. This allows for more individual interactions with teachers and fellow students. All of the teachers are well studied in their disciplines and are always open to helping their students.

The University of Portland works in such a way that it combines 3 important traits to build a beautiful graduate: faith, serivce, and learning. I feel that I am treated as an individual with the potential to change the world. But before I do, I must find within me a faith upon something so that I may serve others through that faith and learn how to better myeslf and the world in the process. Together these are a deadly combination for graduates in the career field. I find this rounded focus the best part of University of Portland.

The best tihng about the University of Portland is the level of involvement one can have with the University. Campus Ministry is a big portion of this involvement, with retreats, bible studies, and other groups and activities, all deisgned to help the student grow spiritually. Some good friendships and relationships can be formed in these activities. Other, non-campus Ministry relateded activities abound, as well. From the Villa Drum Squad at the soccer games, to various Charity Findraisers, dances and other activities, there's always something to get involved in and enjoy.

David

As much as it's kind of a small population, this leads to very small class sizes. You will get to know your professors and everyone of them is interested in your success.

Jennifer

The environment is beautiful. It's good for studying, and I like the weather. It rains a lot, but i've lived in the are all my life so I really enjoy it.

Lauren

There are lots of study abroad opportunities, an emphasis on volunteer programs, access to administration, and to professors.

Leah

The best thing about my school is the city that it is in. It is such a wonderful curriculum and has great classes, but by far I love Portland the city the best. I go on coast trips with my friends, and I go shopping at Saturday Market all the time. The people in the city are so ecclectic, and I find lots of volunteer opportunitues. I love the crazy little stores and the eccentric inhabitants.

Hannah

The location is great. It is easy to get downtown, but while on campus you feel separated from the city. The people here are very welcoming. There is a lot of focus on achieving a professional degree. The community is also small enough so that it is easy to get to know a great deal of the students in your class and in the other classes.

Lisa

fantastic education. good opportunities to do neat things

Alyssa

I am surprised that this survery does not ask about Studies Abroad. Last year, I was in the year-long program in Salzburg, Austria and it was the most amazing year of my life. UP offers a wide range of exceptional Studies Abroad opportunities and it's the least expensive way to see the world that there is!

Katie

The study abroad programs my school offers are amazing! There is financial aid provided to the point where it is actually cheaper to go abroad, which totally changes your life. Also, we have small class sizes so that by the end of the 2nd week of class your professor can remember your name.

Kelly

The small class sizes and individual attention from professors. I never once felt like I was "just a number" at this school.
