Jacqueline

What I have gotten out my college experience is that it's easier to give up when the work starts adding up but there are always people willing to help.

Feliza

I have gained so much from working at the campus paper at my university. I have met people with similar interests, made some amazing friends, met some fascinating people, and learned so much about what I need to do when I go into the journalism field.

Throughout my college expierience so far iv'e learned alot. Living on my own with no parental control has been one of the best ways to live with limited guidance. Iv'e learned better ways of studying, which has helped me proceed in passing many classes. The Tutoring center has provided a maximum level of help as far as improving grades. The objective of all of this i believe is to never give up because success is right around the corner. I tend to remember in the time of need that it gets greater later. I keep this in mind, because things dont always go as planned. My time here at the university of toledo is very valuble. I work hard, and as the saying goes "hard work pays off." While away from what i call home, i think this is time to do what I have to do in order to get through. As each day goes by i learn something new, that i know will help me out in the long run. Ive gotten words of wisdom throughout this expirience thats needed in life, and they are valuble and will help me out with my career study.

Adam

I have been able to interact with many different people from many different backgrounds. The diversity makes students realize that they are not the only ones on campus and puts them in unique situations that they cannont learn anywhere else. The people that students meet is a rewarding experience and creates relationships that can last a lifetime. You learn to manage your time with the amount of freedom that you receive which will help students as they graduate and move on with their lives.

Kenyatta

I have gotten the need to succed out of my college experience thats why it is so vauluable to me. I see people get good grades graduate and do things that make them happy all the time and it makes me even mor determined to do what i have to do to be successful. I want to have a profession thinking about my past is what keeps me going.

Patrick

Since I am just beginning my graduate school career it is difficult to say what will hold the most value for me. However, I can tell already that the classes I will be taking will be challenging and apt and the faculty members I will be working with are extremely knowledgeable and visible. I know I will receive a quality education and a good paying job upon completion of my degrees here at UT. I feel as though that those are the two most important things to hope to gain from a college and I am happy to say The University of Toledo will be able to provide them.

Julie

My college experience has taught me a lot. I met my first love there, and learned what it was like to love and lose love. I met friends there who are going to be my friends for life. I also learned exactly how important time management skills are by running to class to be on time! I learned how fun being in extracurriculars can be! I found it very rewarding when my college sent me overseas to volunteer at military installations to and be a camp counselor to children. This college experience helped me get the nerve to takt the plunge and teach English in China for a year after graduation. It was completely worth it! College giving me ample opportunities for experience, and the experience teaching me what I wanted to do in life, led me back to graduate school. It was so valuable to attend because now I know I want to help children get the best educaiton they can. College has opened doors for me, and has taught me that making my own path in life can be a good thing!

Lakya

I HAVE BECOME A STRONGER PERSON ACADEMICALLY AND SOCIALLY BY GOING TO THIS COLLEGE. IT HAS HELPED ME ACHIEVE GOALS I HAVE NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD ACHIEVE AND ALL THE STAFF THERE HELPED ME SO MUCH, I DONT THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO DO IT WITHOUT THEM.

Olivia

I have picked up many social skills and important information and an education to adequately prepare me for my future field of Pharmacy.

Jasmine

I've gained wisdom. Most would attribute that to the courses taken and strictly on academia, but for myself wisdom has come mores o in the form of life lessons. Yes, i learned things from my english, math, and gender study classes but the things i will never forget are the harder classes that aren't on the schedules. This being financial aid, having to get two jobs, time management, freedom being ones enemy and friend. Nothing or no one could prepare me for the battles of college. Experience is definitely the best teacher. The campus life would not have been fulfilled without living off the barely edible food, sharing ones life in a dorm, and knowing when to join extra-curricular activities. It is important to attend college to know how to persevere and survive in the real world. Learning how to excel in life, not just academically.

Chaleah

I have gain a lot of maturity out of my college experience so far. As I moved into the residence halls, I learned to handle many problems and situations on my own, without my parents their guiding me every step of the way. Being away from home has allowed me to become an adult and take care of my business.

Jessica

I have gotten more than I could've possibly imagined out of college. University of Toledo opened my mind about diversity, international problems, and how to think beyond the text. This college is comprised of many foreign students and staff. With communicating with them, I have learned how different the U.S. is from every other part of the world. I have also been exposed to problems in the community as well as the world. Before college I was unaware of many socially damaging problems. For example, one main reason for homelessness was the evacuation of mental hospitals in the 1970's. However, with this knowledge, students can help change these statistics and make Toledo a better place to live. Deep thinking is a quality I can credit to my philosophy teacher. She taught me to instead of looking at the problem, find out why the problem exists. Therefore, you can treat the real problem, not just the symtom. I can apply this to many situations in my future. Overall, my college experience has changed who I am. I am more aware of my actions and more prepared for my future than ever before.

Laura

I have learned many valuable lessons towards my career out of my college experience. I have learned how to work with others in a business environment in Massage Therapy school. How to have proper business etiquette and how to be professional. I have learned to be passionate and concerning like healthcare professionals should be. I have learned to run businesses smoothly. College has been valuble to attend because I would not have learned how businesses run or how patients respond to problems in the hospitals or in massage spas had I not gone to Greenville Technical College. I would not have learned how to handle difficult patients and how to a patient healthcare provider. I am glad that I was taught how to be professional and patient for those who really did need my loving care just as I would want someone to care for me.

Jaclyn

I have gained so much from going away to college instead of going to a community college. I have met the most amazing people, and I also have grown up and matured greatly. I am learning so much and cannot wait to go to graduate school. Coming here just makes me want to succeed. I know I can do well on my own, and can handle stress and anything that is thrown at me thanks to college. I would recommend to anyone to go away to college and into the "real world".

Opeyemi

During my Community College experience I have attained knowlege that I never even thought I would be interested in. During the long two year process, it has given me time to really think about life and my purpose of being here. I felt there had to be a good reason I didnt want to just jump into the University life like everyone else and just take time at home to really find out who I was. Thanks to Tarrant County College and there wonderful array of teachers and staff I know who I am and what Im capable of doing.

Amanda

through college I have learned more about music than I ever thought possible. I can not wait to learn more. I believe this is valuable because I can use what I am learning to help others learn about the amazing joys of music.

Alexis

I have realized that it is a lot of work but you have to do it in order to succeed in life.

Patricia

My college experience has given me the oppurtunity to broaden my horizons, and learn so many new things. When I first came to the University, I was afraid to get out and experience anything. I was the type of person to go to class, eat at the dining hall and come back to my dorm. I never wanted to meet new people or try going beyond my comfort zone. But as soon as I got into some positive groups with some positive people it really helped with puling me out of my shell. I was able to talk to more people and become more comfortable with just being me. It also helped me make better choices with my school work because the people I was hanging with were doing well in school, and in order to fit in I had to follow the same trend. Being apart of these groups has given me leadership skills, and taught me how to deal with people. They have also taught me to learn and juggle classes with my extra activities. It has been very well worth it to be a student here at UT and I know this is just the beginning!

Shareefah

By being here in the University of Toledo, I've gotten and learned alot. Going to classes were good. My first year wasn't as I expected it would be, but it was cool. When I first started school, I met new friends. I had more friends in college than back home. The classes didn't even seem hard. People always told me "college is very hard your first year", and I believed them. I learned alot of things like managing money, being independent, and learning how to cope with my roomates. This is valuable to attend because I met new people that are my friends, the classes are close to my dorm and now I feel like I'm capable of living on my own.

Kim

I would tell myself that I need to look at what I need early and not wait to the last minute. Make sure you know what you have to do to be able to apply to different colleges. I would make sure I knew what I was getting myself into and if it would save me any money by doing what I thought was saving money. Its better to start early than wait to the last minute. I have learned what to do and what not to do. Its helped me to go to a smaller school, but it would have saved money if I had stayed at home and not moved off to get my basics

Anastasia

I have met amazing people, learned in great classes with great professors, and get to walk around a beautiful campus everyday.

Constantinos

If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior after knowing what I know now about college life, I wouldn't know where to begin. First and foremost, I would tell myself that my habits of not studying and doing my homework at the last minute will need to change. I might have gotten through highschool with straight A's by procrastinating, but once I reach college I'm going to have to hit the books and do my homework in advance. Another important piece of information I would tell myself is to learn how to manage my time. With school, classes, sports, and work, it is going to be difficult for me to balance them. Once I learn to manage my time that will also make it easier for me to study because I will make time for homework and studying while also being able to wrestle and go to work. The last thing I would tell myself is to call my parents two and even three times a day. I tend to forget to do that and it's important because I owe everything to them and it means a lot to them.

Christina

If I could go back to 2005 when I was a senior in high school, I would have a lot to say to myself. Once high school is over and college starts, not only should academic habits change, but maturity is expected to change as well. When I started college I was unaware of a lot of those things. When I started college I changed my major constantly. I wanted to be a teacher, nurse, psychiatrist, dentist, and in 2007 I finally decided on social work. If I were to go back and give myself advice about my major, I would just tell myself to be patient with my major. While starting college, my study habits were not efficient. I had zero interest in studying and homework. Not until about half way through my second year did I realize studying and doing my homework were important things to do! If I were to address this with my senior self, I would make sure that I knew how important those habits were. When I would talk to my high school self, I would just tell myself to be patient, to not stress out, and that everything will work out fine!

Alexandria

I would tell myself to work harder and not just rely on my intelligence to succeed in school. College entails more that just being smart: you have to be able to work hard and be dilligent about submitting work on time, go to classes, and be a good note taker. Even with intelligence, you can do badly in college.l

Terry

I would first explain the importance of a college education. I've learned first hand, that without a college education, you become very limited in finding a career and doors get closed without a degree. Secondly, I would explain what it's going to take to be successful in college and the obstacles that will have to be faced. No more parents to force you to get up in the mornings, make you go to class, make sure you study and prepare for tests each night, make sure you get in bed at a decent time to get a good nights sleep and prepare for that early class the next morning. You became an adult when you turned 18, now it is time to be a responsible adult. You have to learn to manage your time and money, need to learn proper study habits, have to take care of your own health and have to make your own decisions about the people you associate with all while trying balancing life and the demands of being a full-time student. It won't be easy, but be determined to do it. DON'T let ANYONE tell you "You can't."

Michael

If I were to go back, I would tell myself too not worry as much. Going to a new school has always been hard for me, because I am not the most social person in the world. So I would tell myself to just relax and have fun with it. When I first got into the college setting, I didn't really try to get involved in too much. But now I look back and think that there was so much that I missed my freshman year, and think of all the things that I can do now to get more involved and have more fun in college. College is a place to learn, not only from books, but from your fellow classmates. We learn from doing things with our classmates, and have need to just have fun with it. So if I could have given myself advice, it would have been to relax, and just have fun with college.

Jasmen

If I can go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior I wouldn't wait until the last minute to do everything. Time management is the most important thing. Time management is needed when it comes to what time you're going to study and do your homework. You have to know when its time to go out with friends or when its time to do what you need to for school. I would also tell myself grades are everything. Once you mess up your g.p.a its hard to bring up and the same for your transcript. My advice I would give myself is to always go to class, study , take notes, and do my homework. If you follow that you can't go wrong. I would interact with people because you never know who you might need for something, example: If you miss class, you might need the notes,or can even have a study partner that is learning the same material as you or can help you. The best advice I can give is do your fasfa and apply for scholarships so you can afford to go to school.

Aria

If I could go back 2008-2009 and talk to myself as a high school senior and explain to myself what to look forward to when I go on to college I would tell myself that its not going to be easy, to make sure I go to class everyday and just because I feel like I am Doing good in all my classes that doesn't mean I can start slacking. I would also say to make sure I spend as much time with my friends and family as possible before I leave because home sickness will kick in within the first week of school and try not to go home every weekend stay behind and try and get to know the campus and make new friends. Last, don't be afraid to ask for help or ask questions the instructors, tutorers, and mentors are there to help you succeed while in college.

Todd

Get as much information as you can, and dont be affraid to take a year off to decided what you want to do. It is cheaper if you know what you want to go into and stick with it.

John

If i could go back in time what is it that i possibly would tell myself. For one I would tell myself stay focused. During my senior year I was heavily invovled in sports, football, basketball, track, and baseball at one time as well. Even though i had a descent gpa I would have told myself to hit the books harder, like Im doing now. Its different when you are paying for school yourself. I would have told myself take placement testing far more seriously. I would have convinced myself that my legs and "atheletics" were'nt gonna carry me all through life.

Jaccolyn

I would tell myself that no matter what stay in school, do not give up your dream and move to please someone else. Everything gets better and Journalism is not the right career path! You are an awesome teacher and change your major now to education because that is your true calling no matter how hard you fight it! You will save yourself a lot of time (and money!) in the long run. Become someone that inspires others to want to learn history the same way you were inspired at a young age. Make history fun and exciting, you already find ways for people to understand history so put them to use in the classroom setting. Even though you think that your creativity will be stiffled, try to undertand you need to learn to follow the rules and you will be able to let your creativity out! Also, there's a company in Toledo called Roadway Express... apply for a job there as soon as you get a car! You will thank me later...

Stacey

If i could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, i would share a wealth of knowledge with my former self. I would tell myself to stop worrying so much and trust the fact that i am making the right decision and everything will work out. I would reminf myself that everyone else is going through the same exact feelings and the transition into college life will be smoother than you think. You are not alone, remember to lean on your friends and family for support and keep an open mind and you will make so many new friends and gain so many new experiences. Prepare for the time of your life!

Lindsey

Mainly, I would tell myself to not give up. I allowed my depression to overtake me during my freshman year, which cause a significant drop in my GPA. I would tell myself to push myself past all my emotional turmoil and just go to class, even if I felt like absolute crap. I would also advise myself to not get a job as quickly as I did. I should have enjoyed life on campus more while I was there. Then, instead of going to live on my own, I should have just moved back with my parents and saved up money. Financially, I would have been much better off and academically.

Emily

I was a full time post-secondary student my senior year of high school, so I did not attend my high school at all for classes. At first I did not like it because I was missing out on all of my senior year activities. Now that I am a sophomore in college and only eighteen years old though, I would say to myself that I was doing the right thing. Keep at it and you will enjoy the rewards!

Taylor

If I could go back in time to talk to myself as a high school senior, I would make sure to tell myself to pick a college where it was necessary for me to stay in the dorm rooms. I would also make sure that I started saving money for college a long time ago. Another thing that I would mention to myself is to not worry about your classes and to just try your best because the professors are there for a reason: to help. There are also plenty of tutoring sessions all around campus you can use to help yourself. College is made for you to work hard and to put forth your best effort but remember to breathe and everything will be okay, there is no need to stress.

Love

I would tell my senior high school self to open yourself up to this new experience called college. Try new things and meet new people. Make sure you try your hardest in all of your class. Do your best it will really help you when it comes to finals time. Next thing when it comes to a roommate, I know it is a new experience. Stick it out with the first one and don?t jump ship when the first problem arises. Make sure you talk the situation out with your roommate before you change rooms. The grass is not always greener on the other side and thing could turn out worse than they were before.

Jacquelyn

Knowing what I know about college life, I would go back and tell myself to apply for more scholarships and try harder to get more money. I knew my college education would be expensive but, what I didnt understand was how financial aid, was set up. Consequently, I thought I had enough money to cover all of my college expenses for a full year, but I did not. Because financial aid is designed to be paid by the semester, the scholarships I recieved covered my first semester expeses but it leaves me needing more money for the spring semester. I have continued to fill out for more scholarships, however if this i knew this information last year, i wouldnt not be in the situation I am currently in.

Steven

If I could go back to my high school year and give myself advice, I would first of all tell myself to apply to larger colleges. As a senior, I decided to apply to many small colleges, as my high school was small and conservative. This immediately manifested itself as a terrible idea, as I was unable to fit in or get along with the majority of the 1500 person campus. I would have told myself to apply to medium to large state schools, such as Toledo or University of Illinois, and to start out as a business major. This would have helped me to have a foot in the door of my choice college and to avoid changing majors twice.

Alexandria

My advice to myself would be to create better studying habits, not only for tests and quizzes, but also for homework assignments. I could have gotten straight A's as a senior in high school if I had studied harder and been more diligent about finishing the assignments I was given in a timely manner. I struggle with meeting deadlines now as a freshman in college. Because of my intelligence, I kept high B's in high school and one or two low A's, but intelligence is not enough now.

Brooke

I would tell myself to be more aware of my time management. Know how to balance out school, work, my school work, and extra curircular activites. I would also tell myself to remeber that college is also about finding yourself and knowing who you are. So, don't be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone because you just might like it.

Asia

If I were to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, the advice I would give myself would be to start becoming more independent. Being on your own is not as easy as expected; you have to take on many more responsibilities than you realize. Become more organized now, so that you will be organized when you are on your own. Organization is the key to resposibility, and resposibilty is the key to independence. Also, I would tell myself to go to every class, and try your hardest in every class, because the grade of a C- isn't neccesarily "average" anymore. Work hard for the best GPA possible to make sure you keep all the scholarships you will obtain, and to gain new scholarships. I would tell myself to practice my instrument at every possible moment as well. One last thing I would tell myself is to pay attention in astronomy!

Laura

Even though it was only a year ago, it seems like such a long time since I was a high school senior. I remember being excited to be done with high school, but terrified to go to college. If I could go back and tell my high school senior self one bit of advice, it would be: relax! College is a learning experience, where you will grow. You may not feel ready now, but that is because you are still in high school. It is hard to explain, but when you get to college, you will be ready. In the beginning you will probably feel lonely, and cry, there is no point in lying, but you will pull though, and grow stronger. Being away from your family will allow you to see how much you need and want them, and also how much they love you. Your comfort zone will be expanded through meeting new people, and you will face awkward, sometimes tough situations. But, they choices you make, will show yourself and others your true character. It is natural to be scared, but do not let fear stop you from experiencing all the joys that college has to offer!

Frederick

I wolus tell my self not to fall asleep in philosophy class and to go to sleep sooner. I would also tell my self to spend my money a little more wisely and to rent my books insted of paying full price for them.

brittany

If I could go back and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell myself that I need to stay on top of my school work and really focus in my classes because it will only get harder in college. Since college is based on how well you try as student, I would also tell myself that I need to get down the proper study habits in order to accomplish everything that I want to do in the future. All the advice that I would tell myself as a high school senior would be to focus as much as possible during my last year of school so that I can succeed and do great in the college world.

Jeffrey

If I were able to go back in time and talk to myself when I was a high school senior and knowing what I know now, I would first tell myself to start to manage your time more by being more organized and make more time for studying. I would also tell myself to do more studying about what my interest and talents are to have more of an idea of what you want to major in because coming to college undecided only makes it worst because you will have more classes to take to decide on a major which lastly means more money that I will have to pay back later. I will make sure that I tell myself to not get caught up with having fun with friends but instead stay more in the books and stay up to date with my work so that I will get the grades that you really want. I would tell myself to be prepared for the heavy work load and get used to doin more of my school work online.

Susanna

If I Could Write a Letter to Me Dear Me, Today you'll embark on the journey of a lifetime. You'll leave behind pep rallies, uniform skirts, and the safety of your high school and begin creating yourself as an adult, Christian woman. College will bring challenges of partying versus studying, flirting versus dating, and the safety of a major versus the pursuit of a dream. You'll make friends you'll talk to for the rest of your life and lose your insecurities, uncertainties, and maybe even a little of your innocence. But tomorrow you will be a physician. You will struggle with the risk of pursuing this dream but ultimately you will sacrifice and you will overcome. Understand there is nothing more important than your own happiness. So find the time to study hard and laugh even harder. College life will consume you, challenge you, and inspire you. At times you will want to quit and other times you'll wonder why it lasts just four years. Take notes, both in and out of class, and cherish the moments that will undoubtedly forever take your breath away. Love, Me

Christopher

To ensure the transition would be eased, I need to know that I choose my own destiny. I am either going to college to get an education, or to party. It is easy to fail out by not going to class, but I am going to achieve my dreams. Nothing in life is easy, and most times nothing is handed out. I am going to meet with advisors who can direct me, and meet with teachers if I have a problem. It is frightening leaving the security of high school, but everyone has had this feeling. With this in mind, I am also going to meet new friends, some who will be lifetime friends, and together we can have a successful college experience.

Peter

If I could go back in time and talk to my senior high school self about college life and the transition, I would sit my other self down for a lecture. High school and college are completely different in every way imaginable. College will change your life. It will change everything about your life! Your friends will change. You will meet new people. Academics will change, becoming extremely challenging by comparison. Your interests will change. Your activities will change. Your love life will change. Your living habits will change. The kind of crowd your hang with will change. Your political views will change. Your religious views will change. Everything. Everything changes. Embrace the change for it will shape who you will become in this life.

Mark

I would tell myself to stay focused and listen. Those are the two most important things a college student could do if they want to be successful. I have made many childish mistakes because of my lack of focus and death ears that has me struggling to even pay for the college that i am attending but mistakes will be made you just have to know what to do with them after you make them. Mistakes can either be a learning expirience or you can keep making them over and over again. Well I learned from my mistakes and although i am strugling to pay for school now i do not regret any mistake i made in the past because without those mistakes I would have never learned anything. My mistakes are the reason I am the focused, trustworthy, honest, and intelligent young man I am today and thats why I would never regret any mistake i made in my past.

Robyn

I would tell myself to learn how to study more as well as read more. Overall I would just go back and tell myself to get involved more and take school very seriously.
