I generally believe there are the same classes of people no matter where you go. Some people haven't learned to be their own person yet, some people haven't defined individuality, some people don't know who they want to be. That's normal. But others are vivacious, know what they want, know what they are there for, and know where they are going. Some are going with the flow and letting the experience take them to where they need to be. I happen to be one of those people.

Shanell

My classmates are similiar to me.

Amber

Again, there classmates from all different walks of life so diversity is the biggest thing you'll see and experience here.

Esther

There are so many students in one class that you can't know everyone well. All of my classmates are diverse so if you look you will find at least one person or two who is similar to yourself. It's easy to find one person and befriend them and exchange numbers to help each other out when there are difficulties in the class.

Samantha

My classmates are very friendly in class, although they tend to keep to themselves after class, and are too busy to hang out outside of class.

Branden

VCU is by far the most diverse school in terms of students in the nation. Students come from all around the world to attend the school. There are a dozen major races and ethnicities at VCU with cultural and religious backgrounds living side by side. The cultural and racial diversity at VCU allows for a more open minded and more educated community of individuals. The mix of students creates a type of unity that cannot be found at any other school. Our differences educate students on the current world around them and our commonalities are what brings us together as friends.

Bryan

My classmates during my past freshmen year were openly mindful and outgoing; they brought out new ideas and accepted others' opinions.

Anna

Diverse and well educated.

VCU is made up of a diverse background both culturally and ethnically. Not one person is the same and there is av ariety of interests among everyone. There is a small percent of greek life, and a lot of groups of friends form from on campus living and different activities.

Brandon

My classmates consist of enthusiastic people who are hermeneutically unique.

Jane

My classmates are extremely helpful and nice to me and they are so much fun to hang around with outside of the classroom.

Sarah

Classmates are very helpful and outgoing and have a strong sense of who they are.

Cameron

My classmates are very diverse. V.C.U. has the most diverse campus I have ever seen. Some people are white ,black, latino, asian, eastern european. There are people in my classes that do not even speak english. It is very interesting and definetly creates a great enviroment to grow. Students at V.C.U. on the majority seem to love to party with alcohol. Many people tend to stick with there own ethnic group is a downside.

Clarissa

my classmates are a supportive group of ethnically and socially diverse peers.

Anthony

My classmates are generally friendly and willing to help/form study groups. Classmates in my science courses tend to be much more competitive than in my English or German classes, for example. This is understandable, however, because my science classes are geared towards premed students, which one can understand creates the need for a competitive attitude.

Jalyce

My classmates are smart, open-minded and unapologetically individuals.

Miranda

My classmates are always eager to learn and very friendly.

Stefanie

Most of the students are very interrested in others' personalities and cultures, love new experiences in art and entertainment, and try to see outside of traditional thinking when in the classroom.

Danielle

Helpful, kind, understanding and always willing to help out.

Laura

It's hard to describe all my classmates as a whole, because VCU enables people to be individualistic so each student has different study methods and versions of letting loose which may affect their work habits.

Kristin

My classmates are caring, intelligent, culturally diverse, and outgoing.

Maria

Diverse, artistic, hipsters.

Anthony

my classmates are very helpful and friendly.

Kevena

Everybody is cool and friendly. If i miss a class and email someone, I am sure I will get the class notes. They are not only your classmates, but when you see them outside. most of the time, they will notice and greet you.

teyana

since i am a theatre performance major, most of my classmates are very serious and competitive about the work it takes to get into the business.

Amber

Open-minded, friendly, helpful.

Bruce

Very diverse and outgoing intelligent people!

Amanda

Diverse.

Rebekah

In the art program, the classmates you make are your connections. They will help you interpret your work in ways that you would never notice and will always be there to critique you and help you grow. I've grown close to my classmates, as we usually take the same courses since we're all the same major.

Rocio

Since my major is Fashion Design in the School of Arts I have almost all my classes with girl at the most 16 so our classrooms are always focused. They are each very different and unique but we can count on each other many times for help and they are very friendly girls as well.

stacy

Stuck someplace between inside and outside of the both, but completely convinced they are either totally out or in, and never seem to realize how much of a sponge they are until graduation when they finally start to reflect on what has happened over the course of the past four year- all their influences, all their motivations, the knowledge and resources available to them, and then they question if they have absorbed enough. I think most answer yes, they have.

Kat

DIVERSE. Very into music, politics, very liberal school (for hte most part)

Christine

There are many different kinds of students at VCU, but many were artistic, emo type students since it is an art school. I also noticed many students smoked!

Erika

The students at VCU are awesome! Most students aren't politically active but there are groups of students that are. I think the majority of the students are apathetic to politics. I hang out with students that are on the left side of the political spectrum. There is ethnic diversity but not enough in my opinion. The diversity at VCU comes from the ideas and lifestyles at VCU. There are so many kinds of people.

scotti

It seems that different types of students interact with each other, I cannot wait to experience it firsthand.

Alex

No type of student would feel out of place. Because of the large number of students, there are too many types of students running around campus for any one person to feel like an outsider. The only hazard for students is having a closed mind to new possibilities and ways to think. I would say most of the students there are more towards the left, but I probably say that because I'm more towards the right. There are too many varieties of what is worn to class to name any particulars, but I've seen pajamas, jeans, liberty spikes in the hair, chains on the pants, booty shorts, you name it.

Autumn

Most students are dressed scenster / retro. But no matter what you wear, there's a group for you. I was fortunate enough to make quick friends with a lot of my class within the theatre department. I guess my experience was different just because I am in a school of the arts program. Theatre kids do tend to flock together because we understand one another through our art. I know I usually don't interact with other major students unless they are in one of my classes or if I knew them pre-college life. A lot of the students here are liberal so they tend to take action & such.

Jesse

Since VCU is very diverse, there's always a group that you could click with. What i had in common with most people that i stayed friends was the fact that i moved here from another country. Finding that common ground with others made me feel comfortable in forming friendships. Additionally, meeting people that have the same major as you can be very beneficial. Not only do you form a friendship that way but you get information about which classes you should take, deadlines to meet, important info, etc...

Matthew

If you are looking for a race, religion, sexual orientation, group, what ever you can find it at vcu. The class body is more diverse than the general population. VCU is more liberal than VA, more liberal than a lot of places, but you can still find every political ideology.
