I would say the sense of independency because VCU is a school that can help you transition from home life to a more independent life as far as your social and academic life.

Mark

The diversity of all the students. You will make friends from all the different majors, ethnicities, and religions. It is a great way to broaden horizons. You learn so much from them and it is truly a rewarding experience.

VCU aside from it being the largest univiersity in Virginia which may seem a bit over powering, I beleive that is what makes it such a wonderful place for a student to thrive in. The students not only learn from there professors, but are capable of learning from there peers as well. The emense amount of diversity helps students use there potential by interacting with things, people, places that they never have before, thus using a part of themselves that they may not have known was there, after all college is about finding out who you are.

The best thing about the VCU School of Social Work is everything. The staff members and students are personal, and many come from different ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Most importantly, we all share a strong desire to implement social justice, wherever we can and whenever we can. Its so wonderful to be around a whole school of people who want to make the world a better place and see the potential in those that society oppress. I love everything the Social Work program at VCU has to offer and together as a group we're doing great things.

The work is hard and heavy, but the rewards of our time spend are immence.

I love that there is always something to do at our school, whether it be attending basketball games, plays, concerts, or intercultural festivals. VCU students take pride in themselves and use their strengths to better the community and themselves.

Stefanie

The fact that it is located within a city gives students a more broad experience. They experience different cultures and a taste of what real life is outside of the college, rather than being isolated to a college in the middle of nowhere. This makes it easier for students to adjust to life after graduation. Also, the school encourages people to explore activities in other majors so that the students have a larger perspective on what they are studying. Most professors encourage the students to use these other viewpoints to enrich their work in the major they have chosen.

Jennifer

One of the best things about VCU is the tutoring sessions that are offered for many of the classes here. I have attended some of them and they were definitely a big help. These sessions not only help students learn the material for the class but they also teach them how to study, which most students do not know how to do when they enter college.

The best thing about my school is the activities. No matter what time you have class or other activities, you can always find another activity to just jump into at the right time. There are activities for those who only want to do them once or activities for those who want to do those activities every week or day. There is very little hassle getting involved too. No paperwork or anything. Often you can just come in and start working on something. I can't tell you the number of times I came out and joined in on a carnival.

I consider the best thing about my school is the cultural diversity and freedom allowed to express your ideas. VCU is in the heart of Metro Richmond with old and new cultures, and many diverse people. The school is friendly and open to all types. You're not looked down on no matter how you dress, your hair style, your car or your friends.

Stephanie

VCU is such a great school. Not only is it the most populated school in Virginia it is also one of the most liberal and diverse. There are so many things to do around campus. There are concerts, dances, movies, and guest speakers almost every weekend. The people here are really friendly and helpful. At VCU no one judges anyone. A person could walk around wearing a suit of armor and no one would look at them funny. On the contrary people would most likely go up to the person and think it is a protest thing.
