Awesome college that puts Christ at the focus and pursues excellence in every part of college life. Wheaton has allowed me to grow spiritually, academically, and foster many valuable friendships. Many of my professors have gone out of their way to know me and are more than willing to help mentor and guide you along your time in college and beyond.

As a first semester freshman, I can say there is no place I would rather attend college than Wheaton College. Academics are really important here, but there are many people involved in sports or other extra-curricular activities. Its location is incredible, fifteen minutes from a small downtown, or a fifteen minute walk to the train station that will take you on a 45 minutes train ride to Chicago. Location, food, atmosphere, it's all incredible. Wheaton has it's flaws, but so far I have been greatly encouraged by all of the incredible people, both professors and students. There isn't a partying atmosphere here, but there are an array of activities offered on every night, including weekends.

Wheaton is a very warm and welcoming place. I swim on the varsity team and that has become my second family. The classes are interesting, and challenging, but the professors are very accessible and communicative. The dorm rooms are spacious and the food is usually quite good. Overall, I'm having the best time of my life with people that I can call friends!

Wheaton College is a great school. Most people see it as this haven of Christian Intellectual Culture, and then go through a period of disillusionment once they realize that we're not perfect (just like everyone else). Despite the expectation, Wheaton College will challenge you academically, socially, spiritually - in all the ways, basically. 100% worth it.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The perfect balance of "fun" and "school" is different for everyone-but if you are willing to commit yourself to your work, Wheaton is a place that will make your time worth it. The classes here are definitely rigorous, but the professors are knowledgeable, invested, and available. The school will even pay for them to have lunch with you if there's a prof who's brain you'd like to pick. The food and housing are amazing by college standards (there is an ongoing rivalry between floors and dorms, not unlike frats/sororities), and the community is relatively small, but active. This is, however, not the place to party. There is a legacy of fun activities that the campus engages in, but it's a dry campus. People recognize that they're here to learn. Spiritual life is a huge component of Wheaton-it is taken seriously and profs will give you unique windows into faith & learning, but they also represent a wide range of Christian denominations. The campus is gorgeous and the proximity to Chicago is a definite plus.

Between the high quality academics and amazing people, I have truly enjoyed my time at Wheaton College. The professors I've had so far have been great; they have been wonderful teachers and seem to really care about their student's lives. The culture is very unique- I personally love being a part of the authentically wholesome community.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

Wheaton College is very different from most colleges today. Alcohol is not present on our campus and that is something I am very proud of. Students at Wheaton College pride themselves in having a fun and exciting 4 years without using alcohol. I pride myself in the fact that I have not seen a bottle or can of alcohol in the 3 years that I have been at Wheaton College.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Wheaton College is full of fun and new experiences. There are lectures, activities, games, art shows, and many more things offered almost every night. The is so much to be involved in, but there just isn't enough time.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could go back to my senior year of high school I would have three pieces of advice to give myself. The first peice of advice would be to work hard at academics from the very beginning. Each class at a liberal arts school like Wheaton is very valuable and I wish I wouldn't have taken some classes for granted. The second piece of advice would be to get involved in different aspects of campus that would normally make me feel uncomfortable. This could include various music, art, or cultural groups. The final piece of advice i would give myself would be to realize how unique each person is and the amazing impact each person can have on our society. Never view yourself as someone that can't do great things because each person has so much that they can bring to our planet. It is very easy to get stuck in the mindset that we are average, but that is not true. Anyone can accomplish something amazing, and I am going to be one of those people.

My classmates are a diverse and curious bunch, always willing to ask questions and challenge a theory; they have a global outlook and are keen to help change the world in whatever ways possible.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I were able to go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, there are a few things I would tell me. First of all, I would tell myself to stop complaining about work and enjoy the amount of free time I have, because college is another level! I felt that the transition to college was a huge shock to my system, especially in terms of work load. So I would tell my high school senior self to take AP classes. I feel that AP classes would have given me a better idea of the amount of work that college requires, and would have also given me a head start with my college credits so that I could have taken more of the classes that I wanted to. I would have also told him that spending quality time on scholarship applications was essential as scholarships are often applied to by hundreds of people and that it requires a lot of work to actually get accepted for one (also getting scholarship money is a whole lot better than working part time in during school to try and get raise funds).

What kind of person should not attend this school?

Wheaton College definitely has the ability to challenge perspectives. Therefore, someone with a very narrow minded approach to life and its questions should, in my opinion, not attend Wheaton College. Students are encouraged to read and learn broadly, where they will inevitably be confronted with differing and sometimes opposing opinions to their own. They will have to be able to deal with this “opposition” in a fair and truthful way, hence, avoiding closed-mindedness.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Well, to start, don't panic. College is a challenge, but it's also do-able. The best way to do well is to organize your time. This way you aren't overwhelmed when the projects start rolling in at once. Along with this new sense of calm, meet new people and try to make friends right away. It's always good to have a support system at home, but it's nice to have someone at hand to talk to if need be. Another thing, STUDY. Don't go into this thinking that it's just a high school you live at. It's not. Teahcers really do expect you to have the assignments entirely done and on time. Crazy right? Well believe it, kid. Oh, and one more thing, have fun. It's true when people say that some of your best memories will be made in college.
