Hon. Mary Fitzgerald Aspell Social Justice Scholarship

Judge Mary Fitzgerald Aspell was the second woman to appointed a Superior Court Judge in the State of Connecticut, and the mother of Attorney James F. Aspell. Judge Aspell was a trailblazer for women in the legal profession and a strong believer in the role that attorneys play in helping the less fortunate in society. . As a leading workers compensation law firm in Connecticut , James F. Aspell, P.C. is committed to making social justice a cornerstone of our practice's values. Our goal to ensure that all people have access to the same opportunities for education, self-improvement, and civic involvement, regardless of their socioeconomic circumstances. Our nation has a long-standing legacy of social justice—from the fight for women's suffrage, to the civil rights movement, to contemporary efforts to embrace all varieties of race, creed, and sexuality—but there is still much work to be done. Until everyone can benefit from the same rights, opportunities, and basic services, there will always be the need for ambitious and talented people to make progress on behalf of others who are less fortunate. To further this vision of making the world a better and more equitable place, our firm offers a scholarship to individuals who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to community outreach. We recognize that education is an important foundation upon which positive, sustainable change can be built, and we are happy to help fund the educational endeavors of outstanding individuals. This year, our $1,000 scholarship is helping to raise awareness about the challenges individuals with disabilities have to meet and overcome each day. We want applicants to consider and respond to the following questions: What are some significant challenges people with disabilities encounter on a regular basis? What are some practical public policies that could address these challenges? Feel free to speak about the challenges you have experienced or witnessed in a loved one's life. By supporting the cause of social justice today, we are investing in a brighter future for everyone.

Eternal Focus Scholarship

I am. . . I am a perfectly flawed child of God. I want to feel valuable, secure and needed, and I am by Jesus. He needs me to listen, obey and co-labor with Him every day. This foundation was created in the midst of my child being diagnosed with cancer, a rare-form of cancer. It was an extremely dark and depressing time, and I fully doubted who God was. But I heard in my spirit to keep going, to finish what was started for this foundation to be created. So I did, and He answered. I don’t have it all together. I am still learning, still trying, still figuring it out. One day at a time, one step at a time, as God reveals my path, my purpose, my destiny. It matters. What I do on earth affects my eternity. So this is me trying to listen & obey, join me and we can journey together!

More Than A Teacher Scholarship

Put simply, a teacher is an individual who assists in the educatation of another individual on a particular topic or subject. However, teachers are much more than simply educators for our youth. Teachers and professors work selflessly to shape the lives of our youth through educating, mentoring, instilling confidence, and guiding them through life to help them reach their aspirations. At Smith Hulsey Law, our attorneys have personal relationships with educators, which is why we are proud to announce our More Than A Teacher Scholarship to award two students $1,000 to use towards achieving their academic goals. One scholarship award will be awarded to a student within the state of Georgia, and the second scholarship award will be open to students within the United States. We want students to share with us a story about their favorite teacher or professor and how they have influenced their lives and/or education. Please include how your favorite teacher has influenced your outlook on life. We will award our scholarships to two students who share a warm, inspiring story that describes the appreciation of an educator. Our attorneys understand how dedicated our teachers are to being an inspiration for their students. That is why we hope that our More Than A Teacher Scholarship sheds light on the significant roles that teachers and professors play in our lives, not only as educators, but for their guidance and service towards our youth.

Copyright in Cyberspace Scholarship

In this digital age, there are numerous streaming and content-sharing platforms. Each has its guidelines and rules. Some platforms, like Youtube, prohibit playing copyrighted music unless it follows Fair Use, while other platforms, like TikTok, can share copyrighted music freely. At The Lomnitzer Law Firm, P.A., we believe in the freedom of expression and that the work of artists should be protected. We are offering this $1,000 scholarship to a high school senior, college student, or graduate student who can offer an interesting outlook on the fairness of each platform and how it relates to them, the creators on each platform, and the musicians.
