What are the most popular student activities/groups?

Kristina

There is so much to do. You can be invovled in anything you really want if you just try and put yourself out there. its cool either way if your in a fraternity or sorority. Personally, i dont really like some of the frat guys..like the ones that think they are cool just bc they are in a fraternity..?

Alex

I am involved with UPC in the group Major Entertainment. It is a lot of fun and having the concerts is a blast! Im also involved with the social sorority Pi Beta Phi. It has been a blessing in my life to meet all those wonderful girls!

Sara

Our activities on campus are amazing as well. We have all kinds of concerts, movies, workshops, etc. etc. etc for all kinds of people! And best of all it's all FREEEEE!!! That's right I said FREE!! We are actually having an Akon and Soulja Boy concert tonight for the students that is free! Last year we had Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley, and Augustana! Our University Program Council (UPC) is awesome and they schedule all kinds of activities for the students. They have free showings of movies that haven't come out on video yet. They often hold these outside "under the stars". Auburn football is what it's all about in the Fall!! From Wednesday night until Sunday on a home football weekend... it's all about football and most students start the tailgating and drinking on Wednesday night! Other athletics are important and students go to them, but nothing is like football!! Auburn's party scene is really good, but if you don't party it's not a bog deal. Most people go out on the weekends more than during the week, obviously because of school. The bars are fun and our fraternities have good parties that pretty much anyone can come to so it's a great time!

Aubrie

I met my closest friends in my sorority. We spend so much time together that we're basically forced to get to know eachother extremely well. I'm also very close with my suitemates because we also spend a lot of time together.

Brittany

Greek life at Auburn dominates the social scene. I am a member of Pi Phi sorority and most people I know are a member of a greek organization. I met my closest friends during rush and during my pledgship. I did not know one person when I came to Auburn and although rush was not all that fun at first, I met incredible people throughout the process...I think its a great way to meet lots of girls who will all end up joinging different sororities (that way you know lots of people in other sororities- which I think is important). There are a handful of bars downtown auburn and they are packed on the weekends. There is a movie theater, bowling alley, skating rink and other fun activities if you do not want to drink

Torry

Athletic events are VERY popular as well as VERY fun. Football season is fantastic at Auburn. The Auburn community really is (despite the differences amongst students in activities, classes, etc.) apart of one big family.

Barbara

Not being in a big city, the campus activities become very important. THis is also why Greek Life is strong. Football is the core of Fall activity. Spring is so beautiful on campus that the students just love being out and about.

Allie

Auburn is 30{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} greek! Also, students are very involved with athletics intramural and competitive! Almost everyone goes to football games and is very supportive of the school. The dating scene is great! We have many guest speakers who actually are very informative. There are many activities on campus so that I do not even have to leave the campus. There are also many activities that do not involve drinking, such as free movie nights at the student union.

Meredith

greek life

Carly

Some people may go out 1 to 2 times during the week and then on the weekend. I think it depends on the student, but on Wednesday night you will usually find a large crowd of students in downtown Auburn.

Allison

I am a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority and I love it! It is such a great way to meet people coming from a high school where I only has 2 other girls who came to Auburn with me. My favorite social tradition is the Alpha Psi Rodeo. It's always such a good time.

Katherine

In my opinion, it is hard to find something to do on the weekends that doesn't involve drinking. Since the majority of students at Auburn drink, finding things to do on the weekend without alcohol is especially difficult. Going to the movies or going bowling get old and cost alot of money. One thing I enjoy doing on the weekends is taking road trips. Even though it makes the weekend go by too fast, taking a short trip can be so much fun. Students who are not into drinking have to think to come up with creative things to do for fun on the weekend.

Ali

THe most popular groups on campus are club sports teams, greek life, honor societies, SGA and camp ware eagle and SOS. Athletic events are very popular, guest speakers are popular for the particular major or department that it applies to. The best way to get a date is to meet people through groups and organizations. I met my closest friends from my freshmen year dorm, sorority and through some of my major classes that I have with all the same people at this point. If I'm awake on 2am on a Tuesday, it would be because of homework, but I cant remember the last time I've had to be up past 1 because of homework. People party whenever they want, birthdays or just having fun. But it's not everywhere and it's easy to either take part in or to avoid, it just depends on what you prefer. I went ot the beach last weekend, which is another good thing about Auburn, its only 3 hours away.

Julia

Athletic events are very popular and usually crowded. Dorm life is very relaxed and you tend to form a bond with those you live around. There is usually always something to do on campus on any given night. Its just knowing when to party and when to study.

Sarah

I am a Pi Beta Phi and I met most of my new friends through it. Either they are a pi phi too or I met them through a pi phi friend. I would definitely recommend joining a sorority. I just wish we had sorority houses where they fed us meals like most other school's sororities have and also our fraternities have.

Kris

everything Auburn hosts turns into a social event. THE students at auburn love to support eachother, whether is't a play, soccer game, or school gathering.

Brooke

Fraternities and sororities are pretty big and most people drink a lot.

Alli

Sororities, Fraternities, and sports are the closest organizations that I have seen. You get very close to these people because you do spend a lot of time with them! I am pretty involved around campus and love it! I continue to meet more and more people, which can only beneficial. Bowling, movies, band parties, house parties, and going out to dinner with your friends. Since we are in college, a lot of people do drink, but also there are many people who do not! Auburn truly is a diverse campus, and it is not hard to meet people!

Allison

Football games are by far the most exciting, popular sporting event. So much, that sometimes people complain that we are not fully supporting our other sport teams. . I think Greek like is very important, and i LOVE it. I live off campus so most of the things I do are generally off campus.

Brooke

I think the most popular activity on campus for my sorority would be intramural sports. Every girl loves not only to be on the teams but to go to the games and cheer each other on. A lot of Auburn students love to party. Some a little too much. My sorority is extremely important to me. It really helped me to find the right group of friends and a way to get involved on campus.

Mary

There is always something social to do in Auburn. The University Program Council makes an effort to put on concerts and movies frequently. Also, if a student decides to join a Greek organization (fraternity or sorority) there are plenty of social activities to get involved in.

Alex

The most popular groups on campus are sororities, student gov't and sports teams. Football is a major part of Auburn. I am involved in Pi Beta Phi its a great way to meet life long friends. Athletic events, guest speakers, and theatre are very common and i have been to several event already this year. I have met my closest friends through my sorority, dorm and through orientation over the summer. Greek life is an important part of Auburn , but it is not necessary it does not make up a significant amount of the student body and many of my friends are not invoved in greek life. On a saturday night you can go see a movie, hang out with friends, go downtown and get coffee, go to a concert.

Katherine

Auburn is a small town so not much is going on outside of what the campus is promoting. The few bars downtown are always busy and it always seems like the same thing every night you go out. Fraternities have big parties that usually just consist of other greek members but mostly during the Fall. The football and baseball teams are the most popular.

Sara

We used to leave our dorm rooms unlocked at night, but with a couple of rapes that happened last year, we started to lock it. The bars at Auburn are so much fun, and you can always run into people you know at every single bar. I feel that fraternities and sororities are getting less and less popular and don't mean as much as they used to. During freshman year, I felt that people partied all the time. As you get older though, your school gets harder and you can only go out on weekends.

Addison

The most popular is the greek system, college republicans/democrats, intramural sports, ROTC, Project Uplift, . I'm involved in the greek system and also other organizations. I really love it and i think that it is something that must fit you. It has many opportunities and activities to participate in. Yes my whole hall leaves their doors open. Athletic events, guest speakers, and theatre are al popular i have attended them all and still plan to. There are a lot of couples around campus. I met my closest friends through my sorority and my suite mates from freshman year. If i am awake at 2:00 i am either studying or downtown. People tend to party a lot. It's not all about frats and sororities but when your in the greek system and can seem that way. I went out with my friends and shopped downtown. You can go see a movie, go bowling, go downtown. I shop at tiger town, go bowling, go to the movies.

Kaitlin

When I lived in the dorm I left my door open becauyse I was really close with everyone on my hall and that is where I met my closest friends. Athletic events are very popular especially football. Saturdays turn Auburn into a new world and EVERYONE LOVES IT!!! WAR EAGLE!!! If I am awake at 2am I am probably getting food. EVerything around here stays open pretty late but SURPRISINGLY the library is a pretty hoppin place at 2am also becuase it stays open 24hours. Fratiernities and Sororities do not even make up one fourth of the student body but a great thing about sororites here are that they hold the highest GPA of any student group on campus. Events that happen here each year that are amazing are tailgating on saturday, rolling toomers corner, the rodeo, O days, War Eagle Days, Tiger Nights, Greek Sing, Tiger Stomp, pep rallys, Greek week, Derby Days

Lauren

Greek organizations appear to be the largest on campus, or at least the most present at the most events from what I have seen.

Whitney

I think that greek life is a big part of Auburn. However, the people not involved in them are not looked down upon or treated any different.

Allison

Greek life is pretty big here

Dean

We always leave our doors open in the dorms. Everyone loves football and other sports. Rolling Toomer's Corner is probably the best known Auburn tradition. Greek like is definitely optional, but it is awesome!

Amelia

Sororities/fraternities, student council, and sports teams tend to be the most popular on campus. I'm in a sorority and I also participate in two organizations that support the lacrosse team and the basketball team. Yes, students in dorms leave their doors open all the time. Athletic events are very popular and guest speakers and theaters are not as popular. I met my closest friends during rush and through my sorority. The dating scene doesn't really exist... Either you hang out in groups at things and eventually turn into a couple or you don't date. Guys don't just randomly ask girls out that they don't really know on dates like they used to. If I'm awake at 2 am on Tuesday I am either in the library or at one of my friend's apts watching tv. Different people party different amounts- I know some that go out once or twice a week and some that go out 5 or 6 nights a week. I think fraternities and sororities are very important. They give you a sense of family in a place where you can feel TOTALLY overwhelmed by all of the new people and adjustments during your time at college. You can do anything on a Saturday night that doesn't involve drinking. Most fraternities have band parties on Saturday nights, you can go to the bars and not drink, or you can go bowling or just go to the movies. I participate in Boy's and Girl's club off campus. It's a day care for kids and each girl in our sorority volunteers to help out for two hours each month!

kelly

Greek organization, UPC. Athletic events are the most popular event. I would say about 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of people have boyfriends and girlfriends. I met my friends through my sorority. If I'm awake at 2AM tuesday morning I am probably studying; Thursday or Friday- at the bars. Tiger Walk, football games, pep rallies. People party every night of the week. Sororities and Frats are really important. Last weekend I went out of town to UGA.

Elizabeth

the most popular organizations is the greek system. I am a member of Phi beta pi. students in the dorm leave there dorms open at least the people that i have been around. I met my closest friends in the dorm last year and we all joined the same sorority. if i am awake at 2 am or a tuesday then i am studying. each year there is a rodeo

Alysen

I'm in a sorority and it was one of the best things I did for myself. Thats where I met most of my good friends. Students may leave the dorm door to their room unlocked but the entrances of the dorms are always locked unless you have a tiger card that can unlock it. I kept my door locked when I wasn't there and at night. Football is VERY popular. I never missed a home game this past season I'm not a big basketball or baseball fan so I don't go to many games. But many of my friends go to a lot of them. Some traditons are pep rallys in the fall for the big football games, rolling Toomer's corner, Tiger Walk, and so many others. Sororities are important to me since I am involved in one, but they aren't extremely important. I have many friends in sororities/fraterities and many who are not. Its not the end of the world if you don't join one, it just depends on your personality and prefernces. Last weekend I just hung out with my friends and went to the bars. If you dont drink and want something fun to do on a Saturday night there are always band parties and house parties.

Courtney

I do not leave my door open in the dorm. I am involved in UPC and interior design groups ASID and IIDA. I am also a member of a sorority. I met my closest friends through my sorority. Fraternities and Sororities are really important to me. It is a great way to make friends.

Natalie

Sports are big at Auburn. Football season is chaos but we have the time of our lives. There is always something going on whether it be frat band parties, pool parties, field days or specials at the bar. Downtown is where the nightlife is. The bars are a lot of fun and is where everyone ends up later on in the night. House parties are pretty common, band parties are very popular. Every fraternity has a couple big parties a year and they always have a good turn out. UPC brings high profile celebs to our campus twice a year. We've recently had people such as Ludacris, Deirks Bently, Soulja Boy, Akon, 311, Ryan Cabrera, etc.

Molly

Atheltic events are very popular. I go to football games, baseball games, basketball, swimming and gymnastics. I think it is important to support our student athletes. If I am awake at 2am on tuesday I am probably in the libraru studying for a big test on Wednesday b/c I am a procrastinator. Fraternites and sororites are important. Most of my friends are from my sorority, and if not I have met them through events with my sorority. But i do have a lot of Independent friends that I hang out with a lot. It just depends on your preference if you like greek life or not. Saturday nights if I don't drink i go to upc events or athletic events or the movies or dinner with friends.

Dylan

I am on the volleyball team and love it. I think the club sports and intramural sports are a big part of being at AUburn. I've never lived in a dorm so I'm not sure if people leave their doors open. Athletic events are very popular. I met my closet friends in class. The alpha psi rodeo is a yearly event that I look forward to.

Allison

A saturday night that doesn't involve drinking involves going out to dinner a movie and getting ice cream or renting a movie. Or leaving Auburn because there isn't that much to do.

Meg

I think the most popular groups on campus are definitely sororities and fraternities. I am a member of Pi Beta Phi. I live in the dorm and I would say 95{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} leave their door unlocked. Athletic events are very popular especially football. I would like to see AU's basketball team have a good crowd. Not as many people attend guest speakers. I went to a guest speaker the other day and I bet there weren't over 100 people there. I met my closest friends through my sorority. If I am awake at 2 am on tues I am either studyin or doing homework. I would say people party one day a week and both nights on the weekend.

Rachael

Auburn's social life is very fun. Since it is a small college town, the things to do sometimes get repetitive. Overall, I really enjoy the social life.

Katherine

Student Government plays a large roll on campus. The greek life is very large on campus involvement wise. The great part about Auburn though is that you do not have to be greek. You can still find your place with non-greeks and greeks even if you are not a part of one. Auburn has many fraternites that have band parties each weekend that are always great. There are always sporting events going on that many people attend. There is always someone to call to hang out with and if you don't feel like doing anything that exciting on a Saturday night there is still someone to call you just might have to dig a little. The big week day to go out in Auburn is Wednesday night because it is 19 and up at the bars.

Kirstin

Being in a sorority is a great way to meet people right away but also some of my best friends are not in sororities.

Elizabeth

Greek life is a major part of Auburn I think. It is a great way to meet many new people, boys and girls. It is also a great social life because of formals and socials and parties and swaps. Athletic events are a lot of fun. The party scene just depends on who you are and what you choose to do; what your preference is.

Carey

There are tons of social activities at Auburn. They do alot of really cool events for non-greeks which is cool and alot of schools don't do that. But if you want something to do every night you'd have to be in the greek community because there is always something going on, which is often mandatory for these people and therefore hurts their grades i feel.

Alyssa

Greek life is big in Auburn. I am in a sorority and i love it. Students leave their doors open in the dorms but the main front doors are locked. I always feel safe on auburns campus. Obviously football is huge in auburn and tailgating is so much fun. On a tuesday at 2am it really depends on what im doing. I could be out for a social or a swap or I could be studying for an upcoming test. Partying is pretty big but students definitely take school seriously. This weekend is a huge weekend: Sigma Phi Epsilon's Waikiki party that starts on wednesday and goes till sunday and Alpha Psi's Rodeo on saturday during the day.

Rory

The socail life is good and its a great safe atmosphere. Fraternities and sororities play a big role in meeting people but so does athletics. I feel at auburn if you are not part of something it is hard to meet people.

Ashlyn

I know not a big percentage of Auburn is Greek, but I feel that fraternity and sorority's are very popular. Also the football team is popular. I'm apart of Pi Beta Phi and I really enjoy it. I have met some of my bestest friends through my sorority, and I've gotten so many opportunities to interact and help our community. Students in dorms probably leave their doors unlocked more than they should. I know I do. I don't leave the door open though. Athletic events are extremely popular, it's always full in the stadium!

Torry

The most popular groups on campus are the Greeks. The Black Student Union seeks to become a brand name on campus, as more than just an organization where Black students meet, greet and eat. It has put a lot of emphasis in the last two academic years on community service. W.E.G.L. 91.1 has been on the air since April 1971. It seeks to promote local music and wants to have more involvement in campus signature events, as well as provide a variety of music and programming. I live off campus, so I do not know whether most students leave their dorm rooms doors open. Athletic events are the most popular on campus. Guest speakers are sometimes popular, depending on who the speakers area. There is not enough interest in theater. I am too busy to go out dating because I am a graduate student, am involved with activities on-campus and off-campus and I have to take care of my own household. I met my closest friends at church. If I'm awake at 2 a.m. on a Tuesday, I am either studying, working on preparation for my W.E.G.L. 91.1 program War Eagle '70s, or watching "The Young and the Restless" recording on VCR earlier in the day for replay or all three things. Tiger Nights, Tiger Stomp, War Eagle mascots flying over the stadium pre-game are some of the traditions. People party more often during football season. Greeks are uber-important. Last weekend, I watched the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament on TV and celebrated Easter. Stay home, eat dinner, study and/or watch TV. I volunteer with the Black Student Union and attend Mosaic Family Church off campus; I also live off campus.

Tressa
