The Off-Campus Meal Plan is definitely worth trying out. I've had mine for over a year now. There's over 30 different restaurants on the plan, which makes it easier to budget out your money and a variety of choices when you want to go out with your friends. Some of the most popular restaurants for students are La Hacienda, Moe's (especially because you can get a burrito, chips, and drink for $6 on Mondays), Five Loaves Cafe, and Andolini's Pizza.

The cafeteria is awesome! There is a desert, homestyle meals, grill, fruit bar, sandwich bar, salad bar, foreign meal, pasta, and a pizza section. Pretty much, no matter how picky of an eater you are, you can find something. And the cafeteria is especially awesome around exam times. Everybody goes to the library to study, and with all those people it starts to get loud; this allows for the cafeteria, the normally loud place, to fall silent. So I take my books to Liberty cafeteria and munch on snacks while I study. Take advantage of the events CAB and other camus organizations host. Last year they had free smoothie night, game night, and a bunch of free movie nights along with tons of other stuff. The indie dance parties over the music farm are to die for they are so much fun. I also recommend getting a taste of the arts while at the college. The plays are always good, but what I found to be even better are the not so well publicized productions, such as the free ones in room 220 (i believe), and the directors showcase which is a complile of plays directed by students. Also, concerts put on by the college, like the belly dancing club, are a great source of free entertainment. Last but not least, if you're living in the dorms, get to know the people who live around you. In College Lodge (often referred to as the party dorm, but that's just because we have the most fun, and everyone else is jelous) we leave our doors open so people can come in whenever and chat or else hang out on the balconies playing guitar or just talking about life. It's a great stress relief to know that you can just go over and play guitar hero or watch a movie with your neighbor (or anyone on your floor for that matter) when you need a break from studying. It's a good idea to remember that college isn't all about school, you need to kick back and relax every once and a while (just not too much) :)

The surronding vacinities of the campus are great for College Students. The area has its pricy places, but then there are cheap things that will never make you bored. In the downtown area there is the market where you can buy almost anything. On saturdays Marion Square turns into a famers market, where you can buy cheap great food all day long. There are also festivals and events that take place all year long.

Wes

I really HATE the parking situation at the college. I also hate the infrastructure deterioration that is happening. Of course, that problem is all over the country and especially all over the state. But, King Street looks good since they worked on it. The classrooms in Maybank can be too small for the amount of people they sometimes stuff in there. 4 semesters of foreign language for a Computer Science major is a little ludicrous. I've had 3 thus far of Spanish and can't even say a sentence. I've heard this complaint from a lot of students.

Ross

Frats and sororities suck. They totally stick to themselves (which is fine) and they are all rich, preppy, stuck up dousche bags. The girls are arrogant skanks, and the guys are assholes. Norms pizza will change your life. The weight room is grungy, but does the job as long as it stays open next year. The Citadel guys are total queers too, they only want to talk about school and the Citadel, when they should be trying to talk to girls at a party. Late night adventures down to the battery and the haunted prison are sweet. Go on a ghost tour. Charleston is so tight.

Ben

Nah, I pretty much summed it up.

Kaitlin

College of Charleston is a place full of girls, beer and beaches. It is seen as a guys dream, where most of the girls are in skirts & showing skin most of the year on the beach. A girls dream, with beaches, shopping and "gentlemen". CofC students manage to have the best of both worlds, they work hard in classes and have fun the rest of the time. CofC is a unique college experience, second to none.

Kelly

I came down from Boston and its now summer after my freshman year and I stayed down here. It's a really cool place.

Blake

I mean were going to drink any way so I think the school should do more about the hobos on King Street because some drunk idiot will probably get raped or stabbed.

Erica

I'm not sure what else to say, but... I cannot imagine going to college anywhere else and being as happy as I am here. This place has given me something more than any text book or lecture can teach. The College of Charleston was the place where I found who I want to be and it gave me a space to define myself.

Sara

Drinking is just an option, not a mandate.

Dana

They say that the classes are small and for the most part they are. Although I have had to sit on the floor in 2 of my classes there was not enough seats and these classes were required for amost the whole school.

Bailey

CofC is the perfect place to attend if you want to go to a school that has a lot of open minded people who are ready to have a good time. If you want to fall into the everyday, stereotype, single minded, large university and have an ordinary movie like college experience, go to Clemson.

sydney

College of Charleston is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Come visit and see for yourself-its worth seeing with your own eyes to really to it justice.

Nina

I would recommend this school to minority, "weird", and unconventional students because this little conservative campus needs to be shaken up a little! But if you don't want to deal with having to change a school, then don't go here.

Kate

There was definitely a change from first semester to second semester of my freshman year. In the beginning, people were so nice and everything was a lot of fun meeting new people and this and that. As the year progressed, people found their close friends and cliques and people weren't as friendly. It was still fun though! I have four new best friends now that I love to death and are extremely close with! We still hang out with tons of other people though and continue to branch out and be nice to everyone.

Claire

College of Charleston is a great school! I've met some awesome friends here and we always have a fun time in Charleston. The academics are top notch, just pick a major that you will enjoy and make sure to sign up for classes the very first day you are allowed to! Nobody wants to be stuck with random ass classes that won't count for any kind of credit for you. Although everything you need may not be downtown (movie theaters, malls, Pizza Hut) it's just a 10-15 minute drive to Mount Pleasant, West Ashley, or James Island to get anything you need. Oh, and we live at the beach! :)

Megan

If you want the BEST COLLEGE EXPERIENCE EVER....check out CofC. You won't be disappointed.

walter

I am on the sailing team at cofc and am a sc major I love whole experience. the professors are good and social is wonderful.

Caitlin

Pretty much everyone I know has been hit by a car at some point downtown, especially if the ride a bike. Another thing is people talk about the sidewalks with disdain, but I found that after a couple of weeks, you stopped tripping over them. The dining staff is usually in a terrible mood and its guranteed if you are eating at Einstein Bagels.

Grace

CofC is def. a different type of college, you either hate it or love it. This year about half of my friends are transferring and the other half would never even think of leaving.

Nico

listen to the student body please.

Susan

I love it here, I really do. I think I got a good education and made some amazing friends. I would recommend it to anyone!

Chelsea

if you live in a dorm pick McCallister

Morgan

The College of Charleston is stepping up its game in a big way. There is so much going on in the immediate future that improves academics, athletics, activities and more that I am excited to be apart of its growth. It is a wonderful school, and a great place to call my alma mater.

Bri

I really love C of C. I can't imagine being anywhere else. It's beautiful, I know lots of fun and interesting people, I like the school academically...it has so many opportunities for a good college experience.

Jo

C of C has everything.

Sam

I think the school needs to reform itself to go more towards education instead of worrying about being politically correct and not stopping the illegal sex parties that take place on campus. The City of Charleston had to ban their activities last year, because of their illegal activities, which they are still by the way advertising. They definitely need to get back in touch with what the purpose of a college is and actually make available the classes they offer.

Claire

If you want to study and do well at the College of Charleston, find friends with that interest. Otherwise, you can easily be sucked into the large group of kids that gets rowdy every weekend and weekday.

Tate

CofC is amazing... college is only as fun as you make it to be and college of charleston is a great place to do that. Whether you're into the drug scene, you are a heavy drinker or you dont do any of that... you can still have an amazing experience going here. There are so many good things about the school I hope you don't make a mistake and go somewhere else, becase the funnest time your life can be down in charleston. oh yea, if your serious about the school... check out college lodge (it may look shitty, but its a fucking great dorm)

Jordan

The living situation for those on and off campus can be frustrating. The house on campus that I lived in my freshman year was disgusting (mold growing on the wall, poorly reconstructed rooms). I understand that was have a lot of old houses in Charleston, but if you are going to redo them and turn them into student housing, DO IT RIGHT. My ex-boyfriend was helping me move into my freshman house and barely placed his hand on the wall while moving something and it went right through the wall! I was horrified. I was also sick ALOT when I was a freshman and I'm sure that it had to do with that house. I've been sick maybe at most twice a year since then, but when I was a freshman I was sick like every month. That is probably my biggest problem with CofC, well, that and some of the asshole professors I have had and heard about. I guess that you get that at any college you attend though, so it's something you live and learn from. Overall, I think College of Charleston is a great school and it's an awsome place to live. You just CAN'T beat the amazing weather. I'm used to it, because my hometown isn't far away, but boy do I love being able to wear my flip flips 10 out of 12 months a year!

Morgan

its an awesome school - im from the north and yes its really different = but in a good way - its its own thing - and i think its been good to be far away from normal-cy - to really get a better understanding of who you are and who you want to be

Lizzy

C of C is great! I'm glad I found it!

Abby

I ran out of time and couldn't answer the last 2 sections! Sorry!

Amy

people gossip, people party, people study. its fun.

Katherine

Movies and television shows often film on campus. It's kind of annoying.

rachel

Some of the professors are great... but some are egotistical and pretentious. Ratemyprofessor.com is a great tool for getting a feel for certain departments and professors before you register. The women that work in Einstein Bagels, which is on your meal plan, are the rudest employees on campus... so beware! The college sponsors a program called "SafeRide" for students that need a safe ride home when they are out. The college pays YellowCab to pick up students but the cab drivers are rude and oftentimes take an hour to two to pick you up.

Nico

Honestly, CofC wasn't my first choice school for college. I wanted to go to Tulane University in New Orleans, LA and would have given my left leg to go there. My parents said no to Tulane, so I picked CofC. Now, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. If I ever transferred to another school, I think I would want to return to Charleston and CofC in a heartbeat. You'll fall in love with CofC. And sure, there are times when I just want to go home, but overall, Charleston is one of the best places to go to college. And CofC is a great choice!

Ashley

Just go here. The majority of people would like it

KJ

cops are pretty lenient with public drunkeness, but we have a great safe ride program for those who are drunk and don't wanna drive or just don't feel safe walking back to their dorm from a friends dorm. they can call a number and an on campus sec. officer will escort them back no questions asked. def. take advantage whether you're drinking or not, it could save your life. and bikes are a must!! get one and ride it everywhere!

Mike

Don't let one bad professor keep you from doing what you love. Don't stress enjoy Charleston but don't fail out either!!!

Paige

Well, if you are ever in trouble, be wary of public saftey. Sometimes they can be very helpful, but if you really need them, they might not come. It's always good to at least contact them, but after that, don't wait on them, just try to do whatever you can, and call them again to make sure they are on their way.

Briana

I loved it. I wouldn't have traded it for any other school. It provided a great city atmosphere and interpersonal college experience.

Elena

C of C is a really awesome place. The campus is really friendly and easy to walk. It can be expensive to live in the dorms so if you can find a place to live off campus for a cheaper amount, its definitely worth it. I transferred here from another instate University and I really do like C of C better.

Parker

I transferred...

Madison

Need to crack down on smoking... Many non-smokers constantly exposed to second hand smoke.

devin

Again, not a bad school... just make sure you spend more than a couple hours on campus and in the city if you're thinking about going there. Spend time sitting in classes and walking around campus during the week and on the weekend before you decide you want to go there.

Katie

CofC is a really good school. It's perfect for me, because it isn't too big, it's not in a "college town," and it's close to my family.

Amy

College of Charleston is amazing and I am truly glad I'm going to school here. The beach is a quick drive across the bridge and the laid-back atmosphere is second-to-none. There is loads of shopping downtown, and plenty of places to find work if you need to support yourself at college.

Mike

If you like a warm climate, lots of time to go to the beach, and an always active nightlife then C of C is a great place. If you are a guy, then you will be more then satisfied with the quality of the female students on campus. Although Fraternities and Sororities aren't Huge, they still play a large role on campus, however they are not separated from the other organizations, nor do they alienate them like some other schools. Although there is no football team, there is still a decent baseball and basketball team which have a tendency to do extremely well. Charleston isn't the cheapest city though. If you come here plan to spend a little money. Rent can sometimes be high, but generally everyone can find something that fits their budget. Walking is a must, if you have a car it will definitely come in handy but parking can sometimes be a pain. Plan on walking or riding you bike to class if you live near school. Also Charleston has a great feel to it. C of C is located near tons of historical buildings and there is lots to do and see just minutes away from campus. And for those who like to shop, one of the main streets in Charleston runs a block away from the school
