College of Charleston Top Questions

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Sara

C of C is a great school if you do not want to be isolated in a college campus for four years. It opens you to Charleston a city with all social, economic, and racial classes. There is so much to explore and experience on and off campus

Dana

The school does not have alot of resources yet for real estate or finance. other more business focused schools offer alot more resources and teach you more programs that you will need in the furture. CofC is trying to get up to par but they are just not there yet. FOr the pricve it is a good education but I think that I would have learned more somewhere else for my major. I believe that this college is great and will always be. just like anywhere else it has its downfalls but the location and people are great and for the most part the teachers are helpful and easy to understand

Maggie

I think that the size of CofC is perfect. It is big enough that people don't get caught up in each other's lives and it is small enough that individual attention in class is provided and making friends is easy--you see a lot of the same people on campus all the time. There are always activities to participate in each week as well as many organizations and opportunities in your major area as well. Also, being in downtown Charleston, there is always a lot to do and a lot of new cultural events to experience.

Laura

I love the size of Charleston. It's big enough that you don't know everyone, but you're bound to see a friendly face on the way to class. I've also ended up in a lot of classes with friends, which is awesome. The campus is incredible! My favorite thing about College of Charleston is that you could walk around and take pictures for a brochure any day of the week - students are always in the cistern or sitting on benches reading or eating lunch with a friend and sporting College of Charleston gear.

Gene

Cofc is a great school, the campus is beautiful and is surrounded by a beautiful city which has a lot to offer. The class sizes are great, not too big, not too small; the professors really get to know you and are always available if you need help. The administration is a big help too, especially in the business school, they not only care about your life as a student but want to ensure that you get a job after graduation. We do not have a football team so school spirit is not as high as other schools, but you rarely find a student at the school who does not like it. In fact most students love the college. The most common complaints at the school have to do with the library not being open 24 hours a day. The school provides a great liberal arts education and has a student body from all different walks of life.

Lauren

CofC is a small school located in one of the most interesting city's of the south. There's a nice "campus" feel, but you can walk around the corner and completely forget that your dorm is only 2 blocks away. There's so much cool shopping just seconds away, which is especially good for those moments when you're about to fall asleep from pretending to read your boring history assignment, and need a little pick-me-up. You can just take a stroll down king st. grab a coffee from one of the 3 Starbucks or from one of the cute independently owned coffee shops, take your pick, and you'll be refreshed (or just really frustrated that that amazing dress at Hampden costs $400 and your parents only give you a fraction of that to spend each month!) Another notable aspect of Charleston is all of the incredible restaurants! Though the dining hall is rather impressive, they tend to slack off every now and then, which makes dining out quite a treat!

Ryan

College of Charleston is a pretty small school compared to large state universities. I think you get a more personal experience here than you would at a larger school. It's located in the heart of downtown historical Charleston, which is a beatuiful area. Everything from shopping, dining, to nightlife are within walking distance to campus. The beach is only 15 minutes away, so most people take advantage of it on sunny days. I personllly don't feel like that there is much school spirit, simply because there is no football team. Come football season, it would be nice to have a team to root for, like all my friends at other schools. Coming from out of state, a lot of people don't recognize C of C and don't really know where it is, but that's not to say it isn't a good school.

Anna

It's a great location, right in the heart of downtown Charleston. It's bigger than people think, but the size is just about right I think. There's not as much school pride as there should be, but I think one of trhe reasons is that the school doesn't promote it or the sports enough...

Jordan

The best part of C of C is its people. I love getting to meet so many different interesting people. The size is perfect for me. I see new faces everyday, but theres always familiar ones wherever I go. If I could change one thing about C of C it would be the social scene. I feel like its getting harder and harder to socialize. The city is tightening its rules and really leaves no options but to just not go out. I understand laws are laws, but when I bust my ass all week and would like to relax and see my friends one night of the week its nearly impossible because everywhere they go is some possible source of danger. Even if I myself don't drink I still can't even go hang out because the only place people go here are the bars. And I also think its embarrassing how fast our school sells out. Like pile driving across from the library or having a movie crew take over the entire place. I guess my tuition just isn't enough to buy me a quiet seat in the library.

Patricia

The best thing about CofC is its location. If your someone who grew up near the water then this is the place for you. The battery and waterfront park are a short walk away from all campus buildings and it is truly beautiful. The weater is unbeatable as well. I wish that the school was more involved, meaning that you acutally felt like you were on a college campus and not just walking through the city. There needs to be more campus involvement and school pride. Also, I wish the CofC was more well known and repuitable. Outside of South Carolina very few people have heard of it. The biggest recent controversy would have to be the Seaton Brown issue, when a member of our SGA was almost impeached.

Bailey

The College of Charleston has a really pretty campus hidden just one block away from the famous shopping found on King Street. The classroom sizes are generally small, professors are easily approachable, and the students are fun. Charleston County has done a good job of not turning Charleston into a "college town" and has keep a lot of Charleston's history alive. This allows for students to have a lot of other things to do outside of the College. However, I feel that this is why there is not a lot of "school spirit". We don't have a football team, so our basketball team is our biggest fan based sport. We are having a brand new arena built that should be ready by next season, I'm hoping that this will help boost our support of our teams.

William

Charleston itself is the main attraction. The campus is just beautiful which means that there are tour-busses full of your grandparents down St. Phillip year-round. They generally stay in their busses, though, except when they eat breakfast in the cafeteria at 8AM. Even then the tourists are still nice people and you get to show off for them as a "local." Localness has it's benefits, like riding your bike the wrong way down King St on the sidewalk.

sydney

For me, this school is just right, and I knew it right away. It is a medium to small sized school in my opinion. I spend a lot of time downtown (where I live). ALWAYS something to do. Charleston is amazing. I must think to myself every single day how lucky I am to be here. You will fall in love with the place if its meant to be.

Nina

The best thing about C of C is Charleston. The town is really beautiful and the weather is great, unless is rains and the streets flood up to your knees. It's great that food places are literally a block away, King Street is right by campus, there's a mall downtown, and everything. For students who won't be driving, this is great. Be prepared to bring a bike or a skateboard. C of C has a serious lack of diversity that is really hurting the university. The Multicultural Center is a joke and not very organized, so I won't suggest counting on them if you're looking to meet different kinds of people. There are clubs like Indian Cultural Exchange and the Black Student Union that are supposed to help students get acclimated to the school, but they're not very good with attracting a huge crowd. However, the International Festival that's hosted every year is great. And, the L.I.N.K.S. and Spectra program is great for incoming freshman looking to connect with students from all over. Chris Gay, in admissions, is great in helping out minority students and really wants to change the atmosphere of the college (positively). I really wish that people on campus were more involved. I know it's a huge party school and college is about fun, but it's also about self-discovery and making a difference. People here are a little self-absorbed with their own problems and don't stop to support causes like the "Save Darfur" campaign, etc. People just don't seem to care. C of C is the perfect size school. Not too big or small and believe it or not, I run into people from high school on a daily basis. Another thing that I would change about the school is the housing situation. I lived with the most disgusting people ever, so if you're planning on staying on campus, room with someone you know (not a best friend), but someone you can live with. Try to set rules from the very beginning and don't depend on an RA to help because they just shrug off the problems. (At least the one I had did). Let them (the RA( know what's going on and if you have to move, move. The C of C administration is reflective of the university itself. I spoke with someone who was the first African American to work in the president's office ever and she's been there for about 10 years ... which says a lot. In that aspect, the school is backwards and there are definitely some professors to avoid. The Communications program is pretty good, Spanish is good but filled with sketchy characters, dance is a joke, Computer Science is very weak, math is ... math, but overall it's not that bad. Don't expect a life-altering academic experience from these subjects. If you want the high stress "challenge", I've heard that Western Civilization (honors) is a killer. And of course, Pre-med students are always running around stressed. What C of C lacks most is diversity and a willingness to change and accept that some people and things are different. Sometimes if you are different, you find yourself being punished for it. Ultimately, the closed-mindedness and prejudices of both the school and the town (yes racism still exists, but it's better masked), drove me to leave the school. The only thing I miss from this campus, besides a few people, is the easy access to restaurants, shopping centers, etc. It's definitely more "urban" than rural, but don't expect NYC!!

Kate

I think CofC is the perfect size. It's big enough to avoid the people you don't want to see... but small enough to recognize the same faces on the way to class. People overall are really friendly too! The nightlife is amazing though! Nobody worries about designated drivers because everything is in walking distance! You may need a designated WALKER though!! Especially when you're walking past Public Safety! Ha! One experience I will always remember will be when a friend of ours got in the middle of Calhoun St. and directed traffic so a huge group of about 40 kids walked across to get to a big party on King St! Funniest thing ever!

Victoria

Charleston is a great town to go to school in, the campus is a perfect size, people respect the school and the education students get there, pretty decent administration although there are some issues with the 'honor board,' no football team

Sara

I love CofC for the area mainly. The city is perfect, it's not too intimidating, and there's lots to do. A great place to just walk around or shop if you'd like too. The size is perfect, where you're meeting new people every day, but seeing familiar faces at the same time. Class sizes are great too, it's a very personal experience. People are extremely friendly and diverse. I have groups of friends from many different backgrounds. The only complaint I have about CofC is the school pride, which is lacking. But ultimately, in my book, the town and everything else makes up for it.

Claire

CofC is awesome! This year I lived in dorm that was all upperclassmen, most of whom were transfers. So out of around 300 students living there, probably 75{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} transferred in and I don't know any one of them that is transferring out. It's like they go to 2 or 3 other schools before coming here and once they get to Charleston they don't want to leave. The size of CofC is perfect! Although the guy/girl ratio is way off, it's nice to walk down the street and recognize the same people you pass every day on the way to class. And although some classes are too big (mostly the Gen. Ed. classes that every one has to take) the best ones are the ones with like 15 people in them, you really get to know each other and the professor can help you learn so much more effectively. Charleston's weird in that it is definitely a college town within the few blocks surrounding campus, but take a short bike ride to the Battery, the Market, Waterfront Park and you realize that families and their children live in this beautiful city also and we all share the space wonderfully.

Reese

It is the most beautiful campus I have ever seen. I'm from New Jersey with friends all over the country in various schools. They all agree, it is the most beautiful campus! Alcohol is easy to get. Friends are readily available to meet. And plenty of school events help to bring everyone out and enjoy the pleasant weather. Another thing... lots of films and shows are shot on campus so you get to see movie actors, and soap stars.

Liz

I love the feeling of the campus or just Charleston in general. There are a bunch of parts of Charleston that people can enjoy; there's the water, the residential area, the campus, the city.... If you love beauty, warmth, and people then this is perfect.

Dawson

The best part about CofC is that it is in a beautiful city and it is close to several beaches. The weather here is amazing and there are many events around Charleston that are unique to the area, such as the Spoleto Festival, oyster festivals, many art venues, and even a fledgling contemporary art scene. The size of the college is perfect. You can really get to know your fellow classmates and your professors, but it is not too small. Most people don't know much about CofC and may think that it is not a great institution, but I have friends who went to large universities who have not received an education on par with mine. CofC is a difficult college, not a party school (though we do have a lot of fun also). Charleston is definitely a college town, in addition to CofC, the Medical University of South Carolina, The Citadel, Charleston Southern, Trident Tech, a culinary school, an art institute and many other colleges are located in Charleston. The administration is great. The campus is very safe and Charleston has been voted one of the friendliest cities in the country for many years. I guess that the biggest controversy recently involved the student government elections, but I don't know the details. I wouldn't say that the school pride is comparable to larger schools because we don't have football or anything, but basketball is kind-of a big deal. One of the most unusual things about CofC is that we are not a big athletics school. The most memorable event of my time here was seeing Senator Obama speak. Students complain about the constant construction around campus. The college is very old and it seems as though something is always either being built or repaired. It is really distracting to have pile drivers and cranes being operated while taking a test or studying.

Megan

CofC campus is awesome!! it's not too big but just large enough to always meet new people. CofC has a tendency to take over the charleston community...everyone loves to interact and really take care of CofC students. i would definately consider charleston a college town/city and absolutely love that aspect of it. however...i wouldn't say that CofC students have an over-abundance of cougar pride like other universities in SC such as Clemson or USC...BUT we DO have so much more to offer on our campus besides just football and basketball such as live music almost EVERY NIGHT (funk, hip hop, JAZZ, punk, rock, country...you name and I'm sure its around) as well as art and wine festivals, spoleto, farmers markets, THE BEACH, boating (oh...on that note...we have our own wake boarding and surfing team - and our surf team went to CA for NATIONALS in 2007, all expenses paid) I love CofC because our campus is open to the students being in control...and that means if you feel like starting an organization or designing your own class... DO IT because they will help you make it happen. In fact, they also really encourage studying abroad and allow you to go through any national study abroad program through ANY credited university, college or tech school in the US.

Lauren

Once, you get here, you will not only fall in love with Cofc, but Charleston as well. Campus is literally right in the middle of downtown, but it doesn't feel that way. Campus, itself, is full of oak trees and theres a large section that is closed off from the roads, so it really feels like a school. (with beautiful scenery) but its only a two minute walk and all of a sudden you're somewhere completely different with shops, restauraunts, and horse carriages. During the week you'll find that people spend of lot of time in the new library. Its a great place to concentrate and its HUGE. Behind the library is this beautiful fountain, trees, tables...its like this tiny beautiful park to do homework in.

Rachel

The campus is absolutely gorgeous (if you like the ocean and city spaces) the architecture around the college is absolutely gorgeous and if you'd rather live in a house than a dorm, that can be arranged. You can ride your bike or walk almost anywhere. Folly Beach is about 30 minutes away, as is IOP (Isle of Palms). The Battery and Waterfront are a 15-20 minute walk. The food downtown is delicious (if a bit on the expensive side, so if you like to eat out, get a job or have really generous parents) This town is definitely not focused on the college, it's still a tourist destination (one of the top tourist destinations in the country) but even with the tourists you're still able to enjoy the city. It's not isolated and away from everything like some of the other campuses. There's always something to do if you don't feel like studying or sitting in your dorm.

chuck

large number of fraternity boys who all wear the exact same thing, its almost like you join a fraternity and then are given a whole new wardrobe that you must wear on the pain of death

Jesse

The school is a perfect size. I love it because I can walk to class and see 5 people I know but also tons that I don't. It's not too large that you don't feel comfortable, but it's also small enough so there's variety and change. Definitetly a beautiful city to be in, tons of food to eat at - although watch your money, it goes fast. Kind of an apathetic campus, pretty divided so you must find a way to make friends when you come and GET INVOLVED. I met almost all of my friends through clubs/organizations. If you are looking for a school with great school spirit, this isn't it. Not a whole lot of excitement for the school per se, more for Charleston in general. But, I love the small class sizes, I love the beautiful campus and the fact that I am in a city and can find 3 starbucks within 15 minutes of me at all times. The beach is close, the stores are great, the marina is close, and it is pretty chill.

Tristan

definitely the city! what it lacks with big time sports it makes up with close beaches, good weather, and fantastic night life. there could be more spirit for the sports and activities, but the kid there love to be there for thier piers and environment. i am never bored. Greek life is active, but not really needed if you can make a lot of freinds and go out on the town.

Alex

everyone is laid back. So many awesome, friendly, welcoming kids. making quality friends is not hard at all. The people here are fun loving, the work is not brutal but you still gotta bust your ass on the books sometimes. The beach is 15 minutes away, bars all over downtown, parties exc so the social life is incredible. The city itself is beautiful- more restaurants per square block than any other town in the nation. C of C is an incredible place to go to school, i have not found one bad thing about it and i am a junior.

Brian

I like CofC because Charleston is a great city to live in, and the school has a great academic program. I don't think there is that much pride or school spirit since we don't have a football team though. A lot of people go to school where their favorite football team plays, but not here haha. CofC isn't too much of a party school unless you go Greek. But the bars downtown are great.

Caitlin

The school is the perfect size even though there are 10,000 people there. With all the people you seem to run into the same people all the time though. Its right in the middle of downtown so its really busy all the time. Because of it's location though there is always something to do. If you need a breather you don't have to go very far to the water where there is a place to relax. Its more of Charleston pride than College of Charleston pride. If you want major school comradery this is probably not the place. The community is very strong and even if you are from somewhere else you feel like a Charlestonian. It's a gorgeous campus in a gorgeous city and the weather is pretty much always nice. As far as the freshman experience goes though, the meal plan isn't the best, but there is plenty of dining outside campus. A car would also be more of a hassle than a convenience, especially since everything you could possibly need is within a mile away.

Grace

Being in the middle of downtown Charleston is great! And expensive. The school is a good size, especially class size. There is absolutely no school spirit and not your average college experience.

Nico

school spirit!

Erin

I think the best thing about the school is the location and size. You have the beach 20 minutes away. You have a great downtown with a million things to do. It's like living in New York city, but prettier, easier to manage and easier to meet people. The school is small enough that you aren't overwhelmed in classes and feel as though you can actually meet people, but big enough that it isn't high school all over again where everyone knows your every move. Overall, C of C is probably the best thing that has ever happened to me. I would reccomend it to everyone and anyone. I applied to seven schools and got into two and C of C was on the bottom of my list. I have never been happier with the result. It is by far the best experience I have ever had.

Susan

I love the size. Not too big but just big enough so you can get a diverse group of friends of you want them. Not to small either, you don't run into the same person over and over again, you can transition groups without a problem. This is totally a college town! So much to do, and the beach is only 10 min. Perfect~ People always say, Oh, I know so and so that goes to CofC and they love it! - You never hear, so and so hated it and transferred. I guess the parking situation is the most frequent complaint. Parking is super expensive but in the last year or so they got the bus system going and you can get around on that. The free cab rides are cool too.

Chelsea

The best thing about CofC is the location and weather. It is located in such a perfect town...there are amazing shops, resteraunts, bars, museums etc. The houses are gorgeous, and after freshman year most people rent out houses with their friends. Dont let the charmming quaint town fool you. Charleston can get dangerous at night because after all it is a city. As long as you pay attention and are alert you should be fine. The classes and teachers are awesome...it wasn't a hard adjustment from my private school. If you are looking for school spirit, dont come here...sports aren't big at all. I am from the north and it was a little hard adjusting to the southerners....its different.

Morgan

Whenever I tell people I attend the College of Charleston, their first reaction is usually jealousy! Everyone loves to visit Charleston, but I get to live there and experience everything it has to offer all year long! It is a wonderful place with so much to do, not only in the tourist summer months, but also during the school year. And if all else fails, the beach is 5 minutes away!

Brittany

When I first tell people I go to the College of Charleston their immediate reaction is why would you want to go to a Liberal Arts College? and my response is why not? At the College you will experience a lot and grow academically in all aspects of the world. Being a Liberal Arts College exposes you to different learning styles, and definately seperates us from any other four year university. The College of Charleston has roughly 10,000 students and your classroom size is small to medium. It is really easy to build a relationship with your professor instead of being another number. The College has great resources to help you with anything you need. The College does not want you to fail and offers plenty of tutors and outside classroom help! This is a really good thing especially when you are having trouble grasping a concept. At this time the College of charleston is going through a lot of great changes. Currently we are building a new multi-million dollar gym, a new science center, and a new Arts center. Each of these new addictions benefits everyone at the College of Charleston! The only bad thing about this construction right now is the traffic can get kinda of heavy and the constant noise during class can be a bit distracting! Other than that everyone is really excited about the upcoming changes. The College of Charleston is just great!

Bri

One of the main attractions of C of C is the setting. The campus is absolutely gorgeous, especially the Cistern and Randolph Hall. The Battery and Waterfront Parks take only a nice walk or jog to get to. I and many other students run, walk, or bike all over Charleston because the weather and scenery are usually beautiful. Charleston has plenty to do; it's really involved in the arts with lots of galleries, concerts, plays, and exhibitions. Just going on a walk and taking pictures like a tourist of the architecture and plant life is fun as well as laying out or playing Frisbee, football, soccer in Marion Square. It is expensive to live in Charleston. Restaurants and rent have pretty high prices especially in the nice parts of town (like near King Street, etc.) so lots of students work part-time. There are cheaper places to live but it's usually in the less well-groomed parts of Charleston. Finding a reasonable place to live off-campus is difficult. And since Charleston's a tourist city, prices are jacked up. And there are always, always tourists around. C of C is just big enough that there are different people but not so huge that a student will feel lost in the social life or academics. The administration is trying to listen to student concerns although it seems a little bureaucratic at times. The SGA is really involved in listening to students and getting things done for them; it just doesn't have a lot of support. The biggest student complaint is the cost-of-living and then construction. We're perpetually tripping on bricks. People around campus are woken up or class/tests are disturbed by pile-driving. It seems like the College is always building something.

Crystal

The best thing about C of C is the location. Charleston is such a beautiful town and it's a good place to be on your own at. The school size is just right, a little over 10,000 students. The good thing about the campus is that it is in the center of downtown, and so you can walk anywhere and going out with friends to clubs is easy. Also, there is a lot of room to spend peaceful times in the sun. There isn't enough school pride, though. I would definately change that if I could.

Aileen

I love the size of CofC. I came from a small private school so I did not want to attend a huge school, but I also wanted to avoid a school that was too small. With about 10,000 students, I feel that CofC is just the right size. The campus is also just the right size. I like how you can get anywhere on campus in about 5 minutes, and it is also a beautiful location with so much to offer. In my free time, I usually talk walks downtown around the battery and the pier, or even hang out in Marion square. The administration at CofC is very helpful. The class sizes are just right and the teachers can easily be reached via email and office hours. They also are very personable and most know the students by their names. As far as school pride goes, there is not as much as there is at a larger school that has a football team. Basketball season is when there is the most schools pride.

Jo

C of C is an amazing college. Everything about it-- the town, the people, everything. However, there has been an influx of northerners, who are totally ruining everything for all of us. Are you from New Jersey, Pennslyvania, Deleware, or Ohio? You are? Then stay home. Please. For the sake of my college, stay home.

Don

CofC is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to be a college student. The weather is beautiful. The women are even better, and you can see them half naked any day, either at one of the beaches (10 minutes away) or on Marion Square (right next to campus). If you want to have a good time and learn about yourself and anything that interests you, then CofC is a good place to check out. The town is a nice college town. There are loads of bars, and if you can't get into a bar you can always go to one of the countless parties around town. If consuming alcohol isn't your thing you can join any of the school clubs and get involved around the city. Not everyone here parties, but most people do.

Jessica

C of C is pretty small but big at the same time. Most of the school buildings are located on one road and the street is packed with students all the time. The city of Charleston is a pretty cool place to live, cool restaurants, hang outs, shops, and the beach is always a plus. I am actually transferring to Virginia this next semester, not only because of school issues. Dorm life, or at least Berry Hall life is terrible. The only thing good about Berry is that the laundry is free. But on the other hand, clothes are stolen out of the laundry room almost everyday. There are no cameras in the halls and there is no help for a student that is stolen from. This was my experience at the C of C.

Gabriela

COFC is a small school, which I love. The classes are challenging enough and the teachers are great. I had no trouble making friends (even though none of them were southerners). The faculty is overall great and friendly. Charleston is a great college town, you don't even need a car downtown. Everything is walking distance from campus, which is great. There are plenty of stores and great restaurants. The library is amazing, is probably where I spend most of time on campus. The dorms overall are way above average. They are awesome and some of them don't even look or feel like dorms at all, it's like an on campus apartment. The best aspect of COFC if definitely the dorms. One thing I would change about COFC is the lack of sporting events a football team. Most people don't go to basketball games and they aren't that much fun. The school would be 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} better if there was a football team, it would bring the school community together and would encourage school pride, which is existent but not predominant at the school.

Patrick

So I grew up going to Charleston for vacations. And it still feels like that to an extent when i walk around. there are TONS of shops for shopping, and even more restaurants (the food in charleston is Delicious!). This tourism provides bars and night life that are an added benefit to students. This same tourism has also provided me and most of my friends with various jobs over the past years. Charleston has no football team and has a decent basketball team, but i don't know anyone who goes to the games. There is not much school pride, as in Charleston is the best school ever and where people paint their faces and get out flags or something. There is no big day where everyone shows how much they love CofC. Students DO still love the school, there is just not rally where people show it. The school and city are just Amazing!

Sam

CofC is a growing school, but still pretty small in the grand scheme of things, I love that about CofC. I wouldn't want them to grow any bigger, they're great being pretty compact. One of the biggest problems I had with the school was scheduling. They are mostly interested in getting out of state students who will live in the dorms, because naturally it will make more money for them; however, because they do this, they tend to forget about those who are local and end up catering almost completely to the dorm kids. They don't offer classes at logically times for people who live off campus. They don't accomdate off campus students or those who work, they expect everyone's schedule to be completely free to them. This has been my biggest challange at this school, because I live off campus and work full time. Also, they don't offer any online classes, which I think would help expand their school so much more if they did. It would be great and a huge help for those who live off campus to be able to take some classes online.

A medium sized school. BEST campus in the world, it's mixed in right with the city. Everything is beautiful! Besides the fact of being a liberal arts and sciences school, it is very diverse with beliefs. not everyone is liberal. A lot of people haven't heard of it, just because it's mixed in with the city. I think it's better that way - if you get pissed off with a lot of the college crowd or you just get sick of school in general, you can get away from it, and still be in beautiful charleston.

Not alot of school pride, but with over 10,000 students, it seems alot smaller. After just a few weeks you can recognize alot of people just crossing the street. The city of Charleston is one of the best parts of the school, as is the beach, the cistern, and the surrounding community.

The city of Charleston is a SMALL city. After two years you recognize everyone. Nevertheless, there are plenty of concerts, plays, festivals, and parties to keep kids occupied. The beach and the summers in the chuck are also relaxing and fun. I spend most of my time at my two part-time jobs (you need a lot of spending money for drinks and food), or at the library.

CofC is an amazing place, the perfect place to go to college in my point of view. For starters the city is amazing and always has something going on, the beach is just a short drive away, and people are always up for a good time. With the school being downtown there are a ton of bars, restaurants, and shops just a short walk away and you never have to worry about driving a far distace to see people. The student body is great, tons of good looking girls.. and lots of nice people. It's easy to make friends and with a compacted campus on not many city blocks you are always likely to see someone you know walking around. The academics are not bad either... most classes are challenging and a lot of the professors are really interested in helping you learn the material. Overall, I can't see anyone being disappointed in choosing CofC as the school they go to....
