What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Nicole

I've received a grasp on being a true independent. Having the ability to not rely on others, including family and friends, with maintaining my grades, budgeting my financies, keeping track of all documents sent and received from my school. To sum it all up; I've gotten a taste of an adult life. It has been a great value attending FAMU because of the mark they leave on a person. Just taking a campus visit is an unforgettable experience. FAMU has made my beginning college experience more memorable then I could possibly imagine. From the Set Friday parties they host on campus, to the after hours tutoring the professors hold. If I had to pick any school in the state FAMU would be my number one choice hands down. No other school will have the most spirit, most loving professors, and most cunning students in the state then Florida A&M University has! As being the first generation to attend college in my family, I know my values brought from FAMU will set an example for my younger siblings to follow my foot steps and attend FAMU as well. I will carry my values with me forever.

I view my college education as a wonderful gift and because of my age and maturity, it is a gift that I will not waste. I enrolled in college two years ago after having been out of high school for thirty years. Because of unforseen circumstances in my life, I found myself without an income and no marketable skills. I knew that I needed a college education to provide me with a way of supporting myself and my family. Because of the nursing shortage I decided to pursue the nursing field. This experience has been long and challenging but also very rewarding. It has given me a much needed boost of confidence in my ability and a newfound sense of pride in a job well done. I have come a long way in a short time and I have no intention of quitting. My college education has become one of the most important steps that I have ever taken toward securing my future. I have been accepted to nursing school and will begin in late August. Rather than dreading my future, I can now approach it with confidence. I look forward to completing my journey and I feel very blessed.

As a currently enrolled student I have enjoyed the opportunities offered through my University and local community to contribute to the lives of others. With my contributions, I have gained a greater appreciation of the challenges facing my main goal in life, to make a positive impact in the lives of others. Recently, I have joined Big Brothers Little Brothers, and I hold the title of Mr. Phase III 2009 – 2010. I am an active volunteer in my local church and work with National Society of Collegiate Scholars , Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Learning Community (STEM), National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Florida-Georgia Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation and Florida A&M University’s Honor Society, but my most-gratifying work has been with volunteering. Though I may not have the funds to be able to invest money into communities, families and individuals as I would like to, I do have time and knowledge to share.

When I applied to Florida A&M, I wanted to gain an appreciation for my people. I never had the opportunity to encounter many blacks other than the slander portrayed on TV and I refused to believe that we were in fact a suicidal race. Going to FAMU restored my faith in my people and let me know that there is hope for us. Seeing the unity of young black people fighting the same fight and supporting one another is beautiful. When I walk on campus, I get a sense of my history because a black philosopher once said, “A black man is always learning someone else’s history so no wonder he can never go anywhere”. At my university, I get to see my face painted all over history as strong, independent figures which is a constant reminder that I will be victorious in all of my endeavors just as my ancestors were. I take pride in my school, Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, and I would like to raise a toast to their continued success in molding their African Americans student body into accomplished adults, defying statistics, and setting new standards in societies.

I was accepted to the Bridge Program at Mt.Sac where they have showed me the values of going to college, and all the support you get as a college student. The Bridge Program makes it less confusing and makes a smooth transition from high school to college. This program also lets us get ahead, I am taking a English 68 class and when I begin my fall semester I will be in English 1A. I am really greatful for being able to get into this program.

Florida A&M University will be a new experience for me, my previous school, the University of Hawaii at Manoa was a life-changing experience. I learned the beauty of freedom, but the struggles of being alone and learning to maintain my stance on personal decisions. My experiences there have helped me grow into a much stronger person and shown me how to respond a variety of professional, cultural, and social situations.

As a freshman i feel that this will be my year of most excitment and challenging. It has been valuable because i know that i am going to learn so much more in my later years and with being in clubs i know it will allow me to grow as a person. From late night studying, to friday night football games, it all is going to be worth it. I dont think i could have gotten a more welcoming feeling with any other college. The academic challenges at my school seem well worth the fight, especially with the student population. I wouldnt trade it for the world and im eager to see what my future awaits for me at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University.

Jessica

I am a college student at West LA college in the Program Police Orientation Preparation Program at Ahmanson Recruit Training Center. This program means a lot to me, it is like me second home. The program includes LAPD recruit training and physical training at one of the L.A.P.D facilities. They offer college level classes taught by college professors and LAPD officers. College has opened my eyes, and help me grow in many ways. I’ve developed skills that will help me achieve my future career. Now I can say that I am mature, disciplined and I hold a professional standard. I know that my staff will prepare me to enter the complex LAPD recruitment and training. Everyday that I step foot in to the Ahmanson Recruit Training Center I learn something new. I hope I graduate and receive my AA degree in Criminal Justice. It has been an immense help do to the economic struggle we are in. The P.O.P.P has provided the cadets and I with everything we need such as books, laptops, college courses and the list doesn’t end. I am grateful for being a cadet at P.O.P.P.

The importance of building relationships with people who will soon become your family away from your biological family. Also i have grasped the experience of becoming independent from my father and i had the opportunity to find myself and have the confidence in knowing that i am going to be successful........ I love FAMU :)

I was born and raised in Maryland. I lived in the suburbs all my life, with an older sister and two parents in the houshold. It was amazing having the support of my family, friends, teachers, coaches, and people around me. I've always made the honor roll in school, and did what I had to do to be successful. I also was involved in lots of other activities in school and out of school. When I decided to go to Florida A&M University, I just wanted to go away. It was easy to adjust, because I knew that this is where I wanted to be. I knew I would have to meet new people because I was on my own. I've learned that when you are focused ,open minded, and have faith, you can do anything. Going to college opened me up to different people, allowed me to use my talents, and gave me opportunities I wouldn't have dreamed of if I stayed home. Getting a college education, getting any type of education is one of the most valuable things in life. Even though it's not free, having the knowledge and education is priceless.

I have learned how to manage time between academies and sports. Being a student and playing a varsity sport are both full time yearly jobs. With two full time vocations there are a number of things you have to sacrifice daily. As a student/athlete you learn quickly what important, no grades, equal no play. Winning or losing you must keep a level head, the same fans that pat you on the back when you are winning will step on you when you lose. It great to run up and down the football field, but the best is when I take that short walk across the graduation stage.

Jennifer

What I have gotten from my college expreience would be the eagerness to learn, and the motivation to make something of myself. Attending Florida A&M University I feel has prepared me for our world today by giving me strategic criticism which I believe will benefit me in the future. It has been valuable to attend this school becasue I now have the confidence and determination to do anything. Standing infront of a crowd, taking part in a research project, or even simple just giving back to the commmunity is something that has made my college experience so much better. Here at FAMU you are accepted for who you are and for what you will soon become. Whether it be a Pharmacy Major to a dance education major you are looked to as a person who has a support system. One thing FAMU has always stood for is being a FAMU-ly and it is so true. If you ever need a helping hand in anything, or just some words of encouragement FAMU students and staff are right there for you, and that is what I love most about my school, and I would not change it for the world.

Being a freshman at Saddlback college has been an amazing experience. Already the opportunities are outstanding! Many people give up on the dream of being successfull and with this group of amazing educators the dream becomes a relity. Currently I am starting a Lacrosse club on campus that I have high hopes for. The teams at saddleback are nationally ranked and things are looking bright for the future of the sport! In academics I enrolled in Spanish 2. Puedo hablar un poco pero necisito este classe por perfecion! My major is Biology but being well rounded will help me in future success! I hope that this scoop is sufficient to project my optimism for my school! Because words cannot explain how excited I am to acomplish my dreams in the medical field attending Saddleback College! GO GAUCHOS!!

My college experience has garnered me the chance to live with dignity and self-respect. It has allowed me to create a stable home for my child, and to envision future successes as I continue seeking personal and professional growth. I entered college timid with very little self-confidence. I was doubtful of my ability to live independently and succeed in a challenging nursing program. Prior to enrolling I had very little accomplishments on which I could hang my hat and more academic failures than successes. However, after entering the program I encountered college's most precious resource: the support and encouragment of my instructors. Thanks to the time they invested in my success, I today can proudly say that I am a Registered Nurse. I now know I have the stamina and drive to succeed as I pursue my Bachelor's degree. I am amazed with the blessings I have received in my life. My husband and I work hard to pay our bills and eventually tackle our student loans thanks to the stable jobs college has afforded us. As my daughter grows, she watches her mom set the bar for what she can one day accomplish.

Corey

I have learned how to manage my class loads along with being in NROTC. I have also learned how to network with other students to better myself in the future. College has accelerated my maturing process to an adult. I now know some of the essentials to living life on my own.

Determination and Dedication is what I have gotten out of my college experience. I work tremendously hard to accomplish my goals throughout school and on my job as well. It is very difficult managing school as an engineer student and working at a fast food restaurant but I have no other option. It?s a struggle balancing school with work by managing my extra time outside of working into studying. Although it is very difficult managing both school and work, I do my best fulfilling both responsibilities. Although it?s hard, determination is what keeps me motivated to successfully complete each semester of school and each shift at my current job. Dedication is what I possess throughout school and work. Balancing both is extremely hard but I stay dedicated no matter what. I truly believe that I deserve this scholarship because I have continually worked hard throughout my day shift at school and my night shift at work with no excuses and no tardiness. Being an engineer student is very tough and working a job in addition is even tougher but I have determination and I am dedicated to accomplish my goals and fulfill my responsibilities.

Aniqua

I've learned that I really enjoy architecture and I have so much opportunies because of my attending this college.

What I've gotten out of my college experience is knowledge, lots of knowledge. Thing that i didn't know before, and things that i began to learn has driven me crazy and hungry for more. Being a senior college student has made a big diffrence in my life. Earning my first degree as a medical Assistant has made me proud of myself, and made me learn to realize that i can do anything i want in life. Specially the way i earned my first degree, spent the last term of my Medical assst. year sleeping in my car, and bouncing from place to place. I knew from that day fourth there was nothing out here on these streets for me. I knew school was thr right choice., and even if it kills me, There is nothing thats going to make me stop attending school. If it wasn't for FAMU, I really don't know where i would be. I'm struggling to make it right now, but with faith ,I'm going to anbrasse the challange with my wings, and fly with it. Where-ever college life wants to take me, I'm all there. Thanks FAMU!

Kenya

I will like to begin by saying that I have recieved so much out of my college experience. Irecieved not only a degree but FAMU have blessed with the knowledge that I need to be able to survive regular everyday obstacles that might come my way. I'm currently a registered nurse and I thank FAMU, GOD, and myself for making that happen. My college experience have made me more mature and have taught me to appreciate the important things in life . I feel that it was very valuable for me to attend college because now I'm able to help my parents during this recesion due to me having a job as a registered nurse. I would just love to be given the oportunity to continue with my career and recieve my masters so that I can increase the knowledge that FAMU have already blessed me with. I feel that everyday I go to work I become a better and better nurse and I feel that its the perfect time to excel my career.

Abdi

I live with very poor live at same time my parents are dead, then i cant pay college fee

octavius

so far i have gotten an excellent life experience by being all on my own. this has been very valuable to me because i will know how to take care of myself as i get older and have to stay on my own.

Brittany

I have obtained greater knowledge that will help me greatly in the future. I have learned responsibility, time management, and proper study skills. My freshman year, things we just like high school except, I was on my own time and there wasn't a teacher constantly on me about my work. I learned how to "grow-up". My work was basically my business and if I turned it in then I did but if not it was on me. I am currently a Sophomore. Things have progressed into second gear for me. I now have much more stricter deadlines to meet. I now have to accomplishbalancing time with more classes which means more homework. Attending college has been valuable . I have transitioned from a unappreciated teen to an attentive college student. Now, I know the true meaning of education. I will do everything in my power to make sure I succeed not only in life but my education. Continuing school is my plan until I have reach the highest point. All the things I've learned I will treasure for the rest of my life.

Landrick

a new out look on life and its valuable because its a priceless experience

JaHeidi

I have learned how to be more aggressive and less passive, not just in the work place but also within the world as well. I've learned that although things can be tough at the moment, the outcome is only what u make it. It was valuable to attended this school because I probably would not have learned how to become a better individual or a unique person in society.

Danille

Every day is another day and I know my college experience is not over. I learn something new every day. Something?s I have learned on this journey will help me in the future like how to multitask, organize, budgeting, how to use Google, how to find free fun activities for me and my friends in the local newspapers, I realized being myself have gotten me true and wise friends, and that enjoying the simplest things in life is the most fun anyone can have. When I had several papers due to turn in I had to have everything well put together which is why organization, multi tasking and Google are important in college. When my income was slim to nothing spending money was not an option, this is why local newspapers helped me find free fun activities in the neighborhood. Being that I didn?t know anyone in college it made making friends hard, but when I got out my shell I made friends that were honest, kind and enjoyed the simple things that I enjoyed. In college I found me, it may have taken some time to find that person, but I did.

Phylisha

What I have gained from my college experienced,is that college is not a game, you must be serious about your studies. Don't be ashamed or afraid to ask for help when you need it. I have also learned that my future is in my hands, and I am the one who determines how it turns out. one thing that has really impressed me ,was the support I received from some of the administrative staff when I was at my lowest point, and wanted to give up.

Monique I. Parker #813-352-8564 [email protected] I would encourage myself to request live in single room honor dorm rather than shared campus room. My freshman year first roommate did not want to live in the dorms. She did not spend one night in the room, her side of the room was messy for weeks and two months later she was asked to vacant the room. A week later I got a new roommate. She seem nice but immediately started to act strangely. She would stand over me while I slept. She stalked and verbally harassed me. I became concerned with my safety. I did not sleep at night. The college refused my request for a room change. I began suffering from a severe disabling health problems that also affected my academic success. She lied to the Resident Assistant that I was not living in the room and I was not ill. My parents had to get involved and my room was changed. I now live in single honor dorms, my health and academics has improved. I later discovered the young lady was a lesbian.

There are so many things that a graduating senior from high school is unaware of. If I could go back to May of 2008, the month of my graduation I would cover a wide range of effective techniques to making that first year of college a success. One of the first things I would go over would be how to cope with not having your parents around to make sure you stay focus. There are alot of things going on around campus that can distract a first semester freshman from staying focused on school work. Being mature enough to stay away from things that distract you is a key part in being successful that first year in college. Another thing I wish I would have started early is developing good study habits. It is key to figure out which ways you learn best because in college a big part of learning the material comes from being a studious student. Of course we all know it is college and there will always be parties. So with that in mind you have to manage your time wisely that way you can make time to study and go out and have fun.

Ty

I would tell myself to try to score as high on the SAT's and ACT test. As well as tell myself to apply for a much free money as he can.

Tiona

I would tell myself to prepare in advance, do not procrastinate, stay focused, seek and apply for as many scholarships as possible. I would also tell myself to make sure I meet all deadlines and keep track of college deadlines as well as scholarship deadlines. I would tell myself to develop good studying habits and to stay focused.

Michael

Keep working hard! Do what you do best and don?t let anyone get in your way. Your working very hard right now with you?re Advanced Placement classes, but you need to work harder, I know you can do it. College is not a joke and you don?t want to get there just to waist time; you have the opportunity to get more college credit in high school. Take those opportunities and use them. You will do great this year, and I believe in you. Stay focused and remember, ? Without struggle there is no progress? ?Fredrick Douglas

twane

I would tell myself to study harder and choose my career. I would start saving money and getting myself prepared for tuition and other stepping stones related to college. I would also tell myself to keep up the good work I'm proud of you!

Raiona

If I was able to go back into time and talk to myself as a senior in high school I would tell myself to take college a little more serious then what I did in high school. I would give myself better study habits I would also push myself more then what I was doing in high school because everyone is not given the chance to attend a college or a university and its not as easy as I thought it would be.

jervecia

If I could go back in time to talk to myself as a high school senior I would tell myself to be prepared. I would tell myself that college requires maturity, time, and commitment. You have to work hard to get in and stay in college. Despite what you hear, it is not just about parties and joining oraganizations. College is your compass to guide you through life. I would say to myself that just sliding by will no longer work, it will take dedication to survive. You have to learn to be more dependant on yourself and how to handle situations better. College is a big step and I know you think you are ready for it, but you have to know your are ready.

Elisa

College is still school! Obvious right? This simple concept slipped away in a mix excitement and cluelessness. Knowing what I know now I would say "Self?make your life easy and treat college like highschool". Now before you throw tomatoes at me allow me to explain. In highschool, I got up, went to school, attended every class, came home, completed my homework and by 9pm I was watching my favorite show. That?s a lot easier than what I did first semester: waste time between every class and wait till 9 to start any meaningful work. I struggled to be productive with the distraction of my roommates? conversations and the temptation to watch T.V. Do assignments DURING the day so your nights can be yours. My other advice is to remain patient with myself. It?s hard not knowing exactly what career path I want to take so I spent a lot of this year feeling like I was wasting my time in school and beating myself up over not having a clearly mapped out plan. Always remember this: get outstanding grades so when I figure out what I want to be, nothing is out of my reach.

Christopher

The advice I would give myself as a high school senior would be to devlop better study and work habits. I would have also encouraged myself to give back to the community and mentor to youth like I do now by going back to my former schools and talking to youth. I would also tell myself that graduating high school is not the end of the road its only the beginning. I would have also went and encourage more people to apply to college despite their finacial or personal situations and help as much people as I can.

Jessica

One thing that every high school student experiences in preparation for college is an overwhelming amount of anxiety and nervousness of what?s unknown. If I received the opportunity to speak with my high school self I would make her aware that everyone has fears, and are faced with challenges that sometimes brings their spirits down, but to never give in to these notions of defeat. Sometimes certain things happen in life for a reason, and these experiences you have are only place in your journey of life to make you stronger. As a high school senior applying for college, I can attest that I was extremely nervous, and at times felt as though I was not good enough for the universities I applied to. My college self would tell her to relax during this process, because it is tedious and requires self control. Having to experience two semesters of college I would vouch that a person?s state of mind determines their destiny in college. Having made this transition, I believe if I continue to have a focused mind of maximizing the opportunities before me, I will rise above any obstacle that has hindered the progress of my success.

Jasmine

As a high school senior I had many expectations coming into college. However, if I were to go back in time and give advise to myself as a high school senior, I would advise myself to go into college with an open mind, as well as let go of burdens that could potentially hinder me from doing my very best, and make the best of every moment and oppurtunity provided. I quickly realized that the actions and choices of others can cause you to miss out on many oppurtunities if you get tied up into the wrong things. Tainted relationships, peer pressure, drama etc., are of harm when trying to do your very best in college. There are many pressures that come with being on your own for the first time, bringing other negative forces into the equation will create nothing but disaster. I would also stress that there are many oppurtunities that are presented while in college, take advantage of each and every one of them. Each oppurtunity allows you to network, earn credit, or open the door to other oppurtunities that will help you land positions that will get you where you want, and need to be.

Ivana

I would tell myself to think more carefully about the career I wanted. Although I had my heart set in the medical industry, I wasn't sure exactly what major to pursue and that is now affecting my graduation date. I would also tell myself to exercise and eat more carefully, so my body could have a heads up on how the college terrain and dining facilities would alter my anatomy and physiology. I would also hug and commend myself on what a terrific job I did given that my senior year was such a stressful and dishearting year (because of my grandmother's death) and I would tell myself to cultivate that strength and determination so I could have a endless store to tap during the dark times in college.

Shemiah

In the next few months you are going to go through the biggest transition you've ever been a part of. But it will also be the most fun and craziest transition you will ever have! You are going to college! Be ready for long nights with no sleep, food you're not used to, learning things you don't think apply to life or your degree, and having crazy roommates! Hang in there, it will be beneficial! Not only will your learning different things teach you random facts, but it will also teach you discipline in life. Stick with it! Stick with your classes, even if you don't like your teacher, even if you don't want to do homework! When you are done, you will look back with a sense of accomplishment and be glad you made the big, crazy transition from high school to college. And it will prepare you in so many ways for the next step, from college to the adult world. Keep at it, keep your end goals in mind!

Jasmine

Wear sneakers! Soon as I enter the room to talk to my high school self I would inform her to wear sneakers. Universities cover a lot more land than your high school. And wearing sneakers can get around you to the various locations and to class on time. So, no high heels and slides. Jasmine, I would say, you can't show up late and think it's okay with the professor, nor can you turn in a late assignment that you wrote last night and still get an "A". Most importantly, I would tell my high school self, Get Organized! As a student in high school I had some issues with organization. Now, that I am in college I have to get accustomed to new organizational skills. Skills that I should have been practicing since the 9th grade. These skills, along with the sneakers, will get you in the position you want to be in,when it comes to turning in assignments and getting to that seven a.m. class on time.

Eric

Majority of teachers and/or instructors in high school make impressionize college as an element in your life that you should fear. Most of themcatagorize college not as school or higher education, but as life after high school and the first step to the rest of your life. I have attended college for one semester as of today, and im here to tell you that they were correct. Not in the sense that you should fear going to college, but to the sense that it is the first step to the rest of your life and it is the biggest step that you will take right out from under your parents wing. The fear that the instructors were refering to was the fact that you have no one telling you what to do, you have research paper after research paper, no one cares or can help you but you. Learning how to sustain these things in high school will help your first experiance in college and make it a lot easier. I just wish I listened and did all of the things i'm telling you. But don't show fear, what ever you do.

Kiara

I would just simply tell myself to really think about what I want to do in life before deciding what type of school to attend (eg university, community college, technical institute, etc) and what major to choose. It is normal not to know right after high school, but coming up with a plan as early as possible a huge help and will only aid you in accomplishing your goals faster and without wasting a lot of time and having to make a lot of changes regarding majors and schools.

Patrocenia

I would tell myself to work harder at getting into the school I really want to get into. DO NOT SETTLE FOR SECOND BEST. Florida A&M University wasn't one of my choices at all, they just offered money for me to attend. This is the absolute worst school in the country. I would much rather attend a college in another country.

Leah

I would tell myself, to first look back on all that I accomplished in high school and take a minute to soak in the pride of how my hard work paid off. I would insist that while in college I need to constantly remind myself of what it took to get me this far and to be grateful and appreciative of everything my entire family sacrificed to get me through high school and maintain my status as a college student. I would also speak on the importance of remaining active on campus, and how volunteering and interning would broaden my horizons and open many doors to new opportunities. I would suggest that I build a relationship with all of my professors, and don't be afraid to ask for help and seek out other students that are just as focused to form study groups with. I would tell myself to be wise with my finances (NO CREDIT CARDS) and seek out scholarships, not private loans. Most importantly, I would advise myself to stay focused, work hard and look at the big picture of what having a college degree means in the real world.

Catrina

The advice i would give to myself is always stay focused on your goals and keep your ear to the ground. If you want to success, you have to fight for it. Don't be too shy to ask advisors and professors for help or to enlighten you on new opportunities. Never take no as the final and only answer, look for a second, third, and fourth opinion (if you have to). Don't let new and exciting ideas fester, act on them and push your imagination beyond the limits. Because honestly, there are no limits unless you set them in your mind and speak them into existence. Listen to the advise of upperclassmen, some of them know what they're talking about and can help you in the future. Don't always judge a book by its cover, sometimes you have to read pass the table of contents to fully understand the inter-workings of a soul. Lastly, only glance back at the past for a second, to remember and remind yourself of who you are and what you stand for; and always continue to move forward in creating a better and fruitful life.

Janell

If I was to go back in time and give myself advise about the institution that I am attending now, I would have looked futher into the different degrees and programs that the school had to offer in case that the degree i was intending on persuing was not apart of their school, I would have had a back up plan. But basically preparing myself to be on my own. Not only prepartion, but I would have talked to people that I know who attend the institution previously and discuss the different pros that maybe I should be apart of to help me distingish myself from other students that are also in my attended major, and the cons that I ahould stay away from to help prevent me from becomig a statics at my school. Making the transition from high school to college i would have prepared myself differently. I would have began to encourage myself to meet new people different from my culture and background so that I would be able to adjust to the different personalities and cultures throughout the institution. However, the best advise given to myself would be do not be afraid to try new things.

Kymeshia

The advice I would give my self would be to study, take good notes, comprehend what you are reading, manage your time and revisit the text. If you do not take good notes you will be out of gas. What I have found is most professors do not teach directly out of the text so taking good notes is key. Make sure you understand what you are reading if you dont get a study budy. Revisting the text is key, you are suppose to remember the knowledge you accumulate and use it in everday life, not just for a test. Time management is also another key element to College life. You have lots of time on your hands in college you must learn to use it wisely or you will not succeed. Make a schedule of what times you are going to study, eat , hangout and other activities that way you stay on track. This will prevent cramming the night before the test or doing homework at the last minute which are both bad ideas that have a very low percentage of coming out successfull.

Stephen

I would tell myself to really practice time management. This is a very important concept that should be learned and mastered in college. Being on your own for the first time can be a great thing but it can also be your downfall. You have to learn how to prioritize and balance your academic and social life so that you won't be stressed out nor will you flunk out of college. I would also tell myself to definitely engage in dual enrollment courses. This would put you ahead of the game upon actual entry into college, and given the fact that classes really fill up quickly at my school, having the extra credits coming in would really benefit you.
