What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Helen

FSU has opened my eyes to the wealth of opportunity available to me. Before enrolling here, I was under the impression that prestigious awards and fellowships were exclusive to Ivy Leage institutions, which is simply not true. Here, my school makes you realize that it is very possible to earn awards and distinctions by making the most out of our academics and resources like the Career Center or our Office of National Fellowships. Also, had not been for their CARE Summer Bridge Program, I would not have been admitted. Designed to assist low-income, first generation college students, CARE taught me how to manage my time, talk to my professors, where to look for additional financial aid, etc. Nevertheless, FSU has also helped me feel at home. Even among 40,000 people, I've found my niche. You don't realize how large your school really is until you look at a campus map or are a poor soul scheduled with back to back classes.

From my college experience I have learned to better communicate and socialize with people of different cultures, religions, and/or ethniities. I have learned how to network in order to help make a bigger influence on my community alongside other organizations and coorporations. The biggest impact I've made is by joining the Best Buddies chapter here at FSU. Best Buddies is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to bettering the lives of people with intellectual disabilities. From working with my counterparts I have learned that as a society we shouldn't look at people through their disabilities, but for their abilities.

Kay

Not only have I met many great people, but I have learned so much more than I ever did in high school. Although people always say that they hate college classes because they usually have 100 or more students in each class, you can always get extra help with the teacher. Also, I find that college is a great expirence because you feel a connection with everyone. You can look around your class and know that everyone went through the same things you did to get into the school, and that they care just as much as you about their education. When someone cares so much about their education it helps learning be an easier task. I feel that since I'm paying so much for each of my classes, that I'm more attentive. I know that the next three years of college will be worth every penny because I have already learned so much in just one. College is definetly worth the price!

Tatiana

Out of my college experience, I have learned that it is important to give back. The Florida State University is all about giving back to the community, students, and faculty. I have realized that as someone has allowed me the chance to gain a higher eductaion, I should be prepared to do the same, to give someone else a chance. I've learned not to judge people, to accept them for who they are, or move along. I've grown in maturity, i take life and all of it's opportunities more serious than in the past. being at Florida State has allowed me to look past myself, and to step into somone else's self. I am a more greatful person, a more understanding, empathetic and sympathetic person. I am more in tune with myself and the people around me, because of my college experience.

Elizabeth

College has been a wonderful learning experience for me. It has taught me how to work well with people I had never met, how to successfully manage my time, and it taught me what I really enjoyed doing with my time. Had I not attended college I may have never discovered how much I do love to work with people and get to know them. Continuing on in my college education is important because I will be the first member of my family to graduate with a bachelors degree. I know having a degree will not only make my family extremely proud but I will know I have achieved something great.

Tiffany

My college experience at Lon Morris College has been the best. The school is a methodist private school and envolves chapel in the students studies which helps the falcuty and students get in touch with there own faith. I have meet the best teachers, they are actually there to help through out your studies there. You can actually get the one -on-one help that you desserve to make it through your courses. The students at the school are actually there to learn and all the students seem to be mature and eager to meet othe students. The students there are also willing to lend a helping hand in studies or even in your personal life. The student life there seems to be very appropriate for the fact the school is methodist, and there are so many student activities to get involved in that will help make your resume for future employment look great. I really think that I will benefit from this school if i just take care of business and get the help I need. GO BEARCATS!

FSU has instilled values of leadship, tradition, serivice, scholarship, and friendship that have made me the person I am today. College has allowed me to learn so much about myself and what I want out of life. It has made me a more indepent person and has given me the drive and determination to set goals for myself and to achieve great things. College has also given me so many leadership opportunities that have taught me so much and have really helped me to develpe as a person. Not only have I been able to participate in leadship opportunities but I have been given so many opportunites to get involved in service and to really give back to the community. As a student at FSU, I have excelled in acedemics, leadership and service which are vital aspects of my future. FSU has provided so many opportunies for me to really find what I am passionate about and really pursue my dreams.

Abby

I have an unexplainable desire to make the absolute most of myself. I always wanted to do well in life, but my college experience has only deepened that desire and is preparing me to do so. I have learned about my future career, but more than that I have learned about myself and people.

Melissa

Florida State was a great experience because you weren't weighed down be several factors. One, the cost of the school allows you to breathe easy after you graduate. If your lucky and you're a Florida resident you do not have to pay very much. Secondly, the environment is so friendly. I made lifetime friends here and we all still keep in contact with each other. I now attend a school where I am surrounding by kids who take themselves entirely too seriously. The environment here is one of anxiety. Kids at FSU are friendly and inviting. No one will ever talk about an exam right before the exam is passed out or vie for that front row seat. The institution itself provides countless opportunities for students. There are tons of majors as well as resources at your disposal. I miss the organization that the school provided. I think my college expeirence was so valuable because I was able to grow into an adult without the pressures of an uptight community. I was also able to take electives and classes that I found interesting. You cannot beat that great experience and the low cost.

Elaina

I have received a more sustainable education in the inrtroducton to Fire safety and Fire Chemistry. What I would like to achieve is a degree in Firefighting, Neurology, and eventually become a neurosurgeon. It has been valuable to attend college because of the experience and the knowledge I have been receiving with in the courses I have taken and are willing to continue through out this semester and future semesters.

Jennifer

I have grown so much as a person in the last 2 years thanks to attending FSU. Not only have I matured, I have also figured out my passions. This has all helped me because now I know what I want to do with my life, and how to achieve it. FSU has also helped make stronger personal connectiosn with people. I feel I have made lifelong friends thanks to coming to college. Also, being away from my family I have grown closer with distance. Also, we talk and share stories daily.

Ashley

I have learned to love and fully appreciate an education. Many people take it for granted, but I know understand the full worth of it. It will benefit me in my future most surely.

Alaa

I am learning from professionals who tell you the tricks of the trade and who are not afraid to tell you your work is awful. The teachers and programs push you to do your absolute best, and the the competition from fellow students is refreshing. I better understand the working world and what I have to face as soon as I finish school. It will be full of competition and my experience from school wil better help me understand and push forward to jump ahead.

Maria

College has been a wonderful experience for learning. Not only am I learning new things about my major (Costume Design) but also about life. I'm learning to live on my own and how to support and take care of myself. Everyday is a new adventure and classes are interesting. It is making me realize more and more each day that I am doing what I want to in life and want to do for the rest of my life.

Britni

Before I went to college I was working at a job that needed me 35+ hours a week. I felt like I spend all my time there and gained little for myself. I could pay for my car and insurance comfortably but it wasn't rewarding. I had a hard time finding time for myself while working there. I had to quit my job to move here and live on campus but it has been the best things I've ever done. I've learned how to take care of myself by myself and how rewarding it is to do the simple things. The classes are more than just learning math or english here. I learn people skills and study skills that will stay with me for the rest of my life. And even though it is the first semester of college for me I believe that I've made friends that will be there for me for a long time.

Holly

I have grown up a lot through out my college experience. I have been delt with some issues that I have had to face and over come on my own and because of those experiences I have become a better person. I believe that college is a learning and growing experience and I have done just that and will continue to do so through out. The education I have received and will continue recieving will be beneficial to me for my future and for that I feel very blessed. Education is free to the public up until high school, but after that it becomes very costly. I fortunatly was given prepaid for pay for the first three years of my schooling and now it is up to me to finance the rest. It has been a learning expericence trying to budget time, money, and school, but the final reward will be worth it all in the end.

Ashley

College life and experiences revolve around so many fields. From education, to friends, to partying, and to coming home in that suit and tie, happily exclaiming, "I got the job!!" It happens everywhere, and to be able to experience the first few steps of the process motivates me to keep pushing through, and enjoy the bumps and curves along the way. Transitioning to a completely new lifestyle was a lot more suave than I had expected; Florida State University was, without a doubt, a huge factor of that result. The professors and students that I surrounded myself and interacted with everyday kept my motivations running ahead of the game, faster than I had expected, and slower than I wanted. Being independent, and away from home has finally allowed me to take on the world in the way that I please, responsibly or not; it's all a learning experience. Without college, I would be sitting at home, not getting the proper education or motivation necessary to fulfill the steps to my career that I have dreamed of and have been working for my entire life. My college experience has made them all worth it; I'm going somewhere.

It has been more or less a crash course in real life. I was safe and secure in my room before I headed out to the World of College. The biggest treasure that I have found in College is the fact that it is teaching me to "evolve" as fast as the World is Changing. We can not afford to stay in the past while the wolrd ahead us changes. We must also learn to adapt and improve ourselves and our Communities. Knowledge gives us this chance- it enables us to see the World for what it is- an interconnected Web of different opinions, view points and actions. For us to succeed we need to understand what drives people and what makes them think how they do (culture, economics, religion, lifestyles) and from there, move on to improve these conditions. But, we must be alert not to be prejudiced in our decision making- we must be patient.

As a child up to a year ago, I have had an extreme fear of failing to reach my full potential. While most celebrated, I was disappointed after my high school graduation. I deeply regret most of my high school years because although I started as a passionate student, I later became unmotivated and indifferent. I moved on as a student at Prince George’s Community College. Starting anew was difficult but my decision to attend PGCC later proved to be one of the best decisions in my life. My experiences at PGCC have helped me mature in many ways which cultivated my enthusiasm and determination for education and success. My full time job, full time course load and extracurricular activities have introduced me to another level of responsibility. I learned time management, prioritized my goals and most of all, realized my potential and find my passion in education once again. My experiences taught me that regrets and disappointments are a part of life and are a pathway to finding and improving oneself.

Carolyn

Already I have gained so many new friends and have had many new experiences. I did not know that you could find your place on campus so fast after being up here for only one month. I have already gained a sense of independence that I would never have had at home and I am learning how to live with a complete stranger. It has already been an extrememly valuable experience to be attending FSU.

Brianna

Over the last year and a half, I have not only gained a great knowledge base, but I have also been able to discover myself as a person. I have had the opportunity to make my own mistakes and grow from them. Through a Family and Relationships class I have taken at Florida State University, I learned how to handle family problems that have arisen in my life in an appropriate manner. Before I graduated high school, my mother had a break down that resulted in severe emotional abuse. In response I decided that I would never speak to her again, and I did not for about one year. As I went through this course, I realized that I could have done something different to maintain that relationship. Since that time I have been able to create a valuable relationship with my mother who, it turns out, has a psychological disorder known as Social Anxiety Disorder. With a handicapped sister and a mother with SAD, life can become stressful Thanks to taking that particular class at Florida State University, I have grown as a person to understand my family and how to handle the unique dynamics within it.

Gabriella

My college experience has really molded who I am. I had the honor of being accepted into a great school. The professors in the College of Business are the smartest people I know. Their extensive backgrounds reflect our class discussions. I have met the most amazing people. In fact, I met my closest friends in the dorms Summer 2007 of my freshman year of college. We are all here with similar goals and aspirations. We motivate eachother when it is time to study and we always remind eachother when it is time for a break. College has taught me a lot. I have matured so much since I've been here. I learned to live on my own. At first, it seemed like I got a break from my family and I had some freedom. As time passed though, I realized what it takes to build a home and to maintain both school and life. Our life here at FSU is all about the Seminoles. We live and breathe this school because it has given us the freedom to grow and become the people we are. It has brought us clarity.

Terri

Answering practically, I have received a good education and insight into the career psychology. I have learned much about research as well as many clinical aspects about my future career. But besides my soon to be bachelors degree, I have received something far more valuable. I have had the opportunity to find myself. What does that mean exactly? It means I have had the coveted opportunity that does not come too frequent in life, to focus solely on me. I have empirically developed my own opinions that have turned into passions that I will soon share with the world.

Catherine

The truth is my experience has only just begun. I can dream and hope about the continuous years of my education and what that comes with. What I can say is that from the beginning of this semester till now, I've gained my sense of independence and self-awareness. I have not found myself completely as of yet, but i feel somewhat on that path to finding who I really am. College is that step from childhood to adult. That's why the experience is so valuable. It’s the transition. I am looking to find and I know that i will, here at Florida State, the realization of my dreams.

Erin

My college experience thus far has given me a whole new definition of dedication. My goal in college is to graduate with a degree in Meteorology, which has been very difficult since the schools with my major will be a struggle to afford. Because of this, I was faced with the option of saving money and attending a small college close to home, but I would be enrolled as a Physics major - my worst subject. My first year of college was the most difficult year I have ever had. It was more homework than I'd ever been faced with, many late nights studying, and the hardest tests I've ever been given. However, all of the hard work was a way for me to prove just how dedicated I was, and I managed to end the year with a 3.7 GPA. I am very glad that I stuck with the program and didn't choose the easy way out. My major will be very difficult, and I will struggle, but thanks to my first semester, I know now that I have the determination and dedication to stick with it.

Victoria

So far my college experience has been great. My professors have been very interesting and have been helpful when I talked to them individually to ask for assistance. I have heard that this is unusual in freshman year classes, but mine have been great. I have been able to begin taking introductory classes in my major right away, which is so encouraging and makes me want to work even harder to continue. I feel as though attending FSU so far has been so helpful. I've been growing, not only academically, but personally as well. I've had a chance to become more responsible for myself and more competent. Now, when something needs to be handled, I do it myself instead of asking my mother to deal with it. It's very empowering to know that I am becoming more mature, both in my approach to my education and in my approach to my life.

Christine

College has taught me to be more independent, and smarter with my financial situation. I have learned to be my own person, and work for myself and only myself. I have found things that I like, and things that I have not, and I believe that the short time at this university has already transformed me into a better person, and I could not value that more.

Jessica

In the time I've been in college I have learned a lot in the class room as well as out of it. I have expanded my knowledge in the classes I have taken, yet I have learned more lessons on who I am, what I am meant to be, and how helping others is essential to our existance. Going to a community college, I have met many different types of people, those that would love to help you and be your friend and those who could care less. I think it is important to help your fellow classmates or anyone really because you may need help one day. College has taught me you have to try hard for what you want in life, you have to push yourself to achive your dreams, and to accomplish your goals to better your community, your self and your world.

Zachary

At first I was not planning on attending college. I came for orientation and fell in love with the school. It is a huge campus but there is alawys somthing to do. I am glad I descided to come here because I have now realized that the four years are only a fraction of the time I have to experience everything I want to and I can go do what ever I want to after I finish.

Brittany

I would consider my college experience so far to be pretty good, but if I have learned one thing about college it is that you have to be responsible for yourself. I was very dependent on my parents when I lived at home, they did everything for me. Now that I am on my own I had to learn some things the hard way about who to trust and who not to trust, I had to learn to cook, I had to learn time management, I had to learn how to have fun and be safe at the same time. If I was still living at home, I would still be sheltered and not know half the things I have learned in the past year alone. I know that I still have a lot to learn, and by being a college student I will learn all of the necessary life skills.

Mary

I have learned so much for attending college. I have learned to be independent. The most important thing I have learned is that no two individuals are the same and that each person has something to give of themselves. Everyone has different opinions ranging from students to instructors. Some instrutors make you think outside the box. Once you do that you really grow as a person and you see the world in different way. Learning is something we should never stop doing because there is always something new to learn. We are never too old to stop learning. Knowledge is a great tool and something no one can take from us. Those of us who were born in this country are very lucky and should pursue our dreams and work for them.

Hanna

To be competely honest, I think the downturned economy has got the best of all of us. In this day and age, it is incredibly important to get a college education. My college education is such a valuable resource to my future. A college education will get you so far in life and absoltely no one can take that away from you. I am studying Communication of Science and Disorders and I love it! Once I reach a Master’s level education, jobs will be available to me. Some people aren’t that fortunate to continue their education. My college experience has definetly opened doors to possibilities I didn’t realize existed. I started my degree doing business management. Lately, business jobs aren’t very plentiful. The door to Speech Therapy opened up to me and I am so fortunate to be in this program. My college experience has definetly showed just how bad the economy is. Majority of us students are stuggling just so we can better ourselves with an education. It shows you just how important a college education is.

Gaetscha

I always say that the person who stated "high school is the best years of your life" never went to college. Not only is college a way to further your education, a good way to dive headfirst into a career and all of the other cliched sayings that will be a bore to list. By attending a University, I learned the importance of one word: communication. The hardest reality check I have ever recieved is knowing that my parents were no longer my "Mommy" and "Daddy", but just my fanacial stabilizers. No more home cooked meals after school; no more free car rides to and from where ever is necessary (or pleasured). I felt betrayed by the brochures depicting happy students when I found myself eating Roman Noodles, paying for textbooks, walking everywhere (by force), and definitely understanding the definition of "broke". Thus, I learned to network. I learned the in and outs of this new community by cutting down my pride and finally asking the simple question of "How?". I was never afraid of responsibility and working hard for my success so this experience is only one that I am more than willing endure while at Florida State University.

Erin

Choosing to move seven hours away to attend college was one of the hardest decisions I had to make in my eighteen years of life, but it was also the best decision I have ever made. My entire world was turned upside down. I moved from a gorgeous house with a room to myself, parents who cooked and cleaned for me, and I group of close knit friends who I spent all of my time with to a dorm room that I had to share with a girl I had never met in a city I had visited twice in my life. Since my first day at Florida State University, things have changed, I now consider Tallahassee my home, and being thrown into the real world so quickly taught me to grow up. I’ve learned how to take care of myself, and I now live in an apartment with my three closest friends who have become the sisters I never had. The memories I have made and the friends I have met will stay with me until the day I die, and because of that I am so grateful to have the opportunity to have this experience.

Lori

The greatest thing I have learned while being in college is how to be myself. Discovering yourself is not a particular subject or class you take while in college, but it is still something to be valued. In fact, I believe it holds more in life than having the highest G.P.A. or receiving the highest paying job after graduation. When you have valuable insight to who you are and how you operate, anything is possible. I graduated high school in Virginia and did not know one soul when I came 11 hours away to Florida State. FSU has endless ways to become involved and through those options it allowed me to discover myself and who I truly am. I attribute much of that to my major, Interior Design. The amazing staff in the Interior Design department made me work to think about what I'm really willing to do and how hard I'm really willing to work to achieve my fullest potential. I have never felt more in touch and aware of myself and of what I am capable. While FSU was not my first choice it is now my best choice.

Ellen

My college experience has allowed me to truly find myself. Leaving high school, I knew that I needed a change. I left my city and my state searching for something new, different. I wasn't exactly sure of who I was or what I wanted to do with my life, but I entered Florida State with an open mind. Not only did I receive an enriching college education, but I feel like through my friends, classes, and campus activities I have really gotten a firm grasp as to who I am as a person and where I want life to take me. There are so many opportunities that Florida State has offered such as career-fairs, social events, community service activities, health and fitness advice and classes, and much more. Through these events, I have discovered that sometimes in order to find yourself, you must welcome all trials and tribulations (good and bad) that will come your way. I learned, personally, that working with and helping others is one of the most rewarding things I can do, which is why I have decided to join the Peace Corps after graduation. This is what Florida State teaches you: to be yourself.

Elizabeth

My college experience has pleasantly been both academic and social. The classes I have taken have broadened my understanding and appriciation of my field of study in the visual arts and French. I was able to take classes not pertinent to this major through my liberal studies courses as well. I have not taken a single class at this university that was not enjoyable and fun, which made it easy to learn. I have made many good friends at college by having roomates and friendly classmates. I have become more sociable as I roamed the campus filled with energetic and friendly people. What were strange experiences for me, like being stopped for directions or chatting with an occasional stranger on the bus ride or walk to class, has become habit for me. Though there have been a few quirks, the overall value I have found in my college experience has been knowledge and socialbility.

Maureen

Going back to college to obtain my masters in nursing education provides me additonal opportunities to broaden my horizons in my chosen field. I am extremely excited for this opportunity.

Jordan

I have learned that every person had there own individual look on life and how to slove problems. No matter which class I take or will take I find this to be true, indivduals thinking differently to come up with the same answers. Some times they even come up with ideas I would have never thought of. Every time I see this in a person it makes me remember that my way isn't always the right way or even the best way. I believe this will help me in my goal to become a doctor. If I have an open mind about others look on life and ideas I will be albe to see a problem a patient has from a different angle and help them recover faster. This is what I have taken and learned from my education thus far.

Brittany

Everyone walks away from college with a different experience, some positive but others may not. Since I have been in college I have had an amazing, life changing experience. College is where I learned to grow up and become a woman. My college experience so far has been filled with fun memories with my sorority sisters but I also have had the chance to learn how to become a successful woman in this world. That to me is the most valuable lesson anyone can learn. If I would not have attened Florida State I may not have learned the skills I will need down the road. Not only did I learn things in the classroom but also outside the classroom through real experiences I would have never had if I had not attended Florida State. All in all, I would never go back and change my mind about coming to this university. This college has become part of my life forever!

Wendy

The community college in which I attend has allowed me to attend with non-traditional students. This opportunity lessens the stress of being an older student. I have been able to excel in my academic pursuits. The community based college with multiple satellite sites have allowed me to continue my education both online and locally with class times that work with my work schedule. Because the college is accredited, it has allowed me the opportunity to be part of Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society, as well as offering classes that I can take toward my ultimate goal of a Master's Degree in Nursing Research. The college offers a variety of degree programs allowing for a myriad of diverse classes which has allowed me to tap into and learn about subjects that I previously didn't know I was interested. This community college has given me multiple opportunites to continue to invent myself.

Lydia

My college experience has been very interesting you see. I was going into college thinking it was going to be much like high school. However college is nothing like high school. College is much more about me. I make my own schedule, I pay for it, I show up, and I'm responsible for making the time to study and do the work. I attain much more freedom. I'm on my own and that makes me care alot more about my grades and scholarships that I recieved! The reason it's very valuable to attend college is to better my education and make something of myself. I want to be able to make money and have a good job, that I'll actually love doing for the rest of my life. Someday I'll have my own family and I'll be responsible for their well beings. Without college and the responsibility of my actions along success that helps push myself to the top of my phyical and mental ladder. The life long experiences wouldn't have ever been available to me if I didn't attend college.

Jaquel

College has allowed me to see the world and the people within it in its true light. We are really all the same; people trying to discover who we are, what we can do, why we are here, and how to leave our mark in the world. A college education opens doors of opportunity and lasting connections with people who have the potential to help you in the future. It is an opportunity to create a bond of unity where indivduals help each other reach their goals. Whether it's the all-nighters in the library or the private door conversations, the memories you form in college are everlasting.

Coming from a country such as Haiti, there is not that many "good schools" that will provide "good education." Therefore, coming to the United States was really a blessings, because unlike many others in Haiti, I have the opportunity to study in the states. When I knew I was going to study in the states, I was thrilled. But when I found out that I was going to be in Lakeland, my joy suddenly disappeared. "Where is Lakeland? I wonder if I will find any Haitians there, I do not know anyone there," all this was going through my mind. But my first two years at Southeastern University were actually better than I expected. I have gained responsibility, maturity and dependence. I have made some lifelong friendships and surprisingly enough I have met a few Haitians there (guess like they say Haitians are everywhere). Everyone should experience "College Life" in my opinion (even if it is for a year). You gained so much out of it: an education, a first step to your career, frienship, character... It is an experience that I would do again in a heartbeat. Being knowledgeable is commendable and college offers just that.

Meleah

Ive learned a lot of life experiences in college. My first year I moved to a different city and lived on my own for this first time. It was a very good life changing experience. I have to say it was very difficult with tuition, school, and rent. I couldnt have done all of this without being in school because of the people I met and education that taught me about life. I feel more well rounded as an individual personally and educationally. Personally, I ve overcome social barriers in school and I think my personality has grown. Educationally, Ive learned so much that can help me in my future career. I've gained hard working skills along with tools that can help me suceed in school. Skills such as certain technologies and techniques which make my learning easier in school. I wouldnt trade my past college career experience for anything because I wouldnt be who I am today. Also, I am excited to learn whats to come.

Rachel

As a second degree student, I previously had a degree from a completely different school where I was involved in varsity athletics, Greek Life, Student Government- you name it. Coming to FSU, it was my intent to focus solely on academics, especially because I had already had my 'college experience.' In coming here as a 'regular' student, I've gotten the opportunity to have another college experience that is completely different than my previous one. Florida State has reassured me that there are universities that exist that are completely student oriented in both their activities and their academics. My decision to come here however wasn't based on the extracurriculars or fun I could have; in FSU I saw a program and a school that was so encouraging and helpful - a nice surprise from some experiences my first time around. I had to plan a move from 1500 miles away to a place that I was taking a chance on, and FSU gave me the encouragement and support I needed, having only met me on paper. I couldn't ask for a more rewarding experience that has given me so much more than I could have every expected.

Erik

After completing my first year away at college I am definitely humbled by the experience. Being away from home has taught me to fend for myself, so to speak, and has helped me begin to understand the difficulties which lay ahead. Everything I have done this past year has been just a fraction of what the "real world" has to offer. With greater rewards however there are also greater risks, and so college has taught me a valuable lesson in balance and moderation. I must understand when to study and when to relax. The human mind can only take in so much minutaie of data before it spontaneously combusts; and having too much free time can addle one's brain into stagnation. I have no preconceptions as to how my life after college will turn out, but I know that these next few years will be a major stepping stone to put me on the right path.

I started at FSU in the summer of 2010. I wanted to start in the summer to get my feet wet and get acclamated to the campus. I have learned many different things from where not to park (had my car towed the first day), where to find the cafeterias, the gym and how to get from here to there utilizing the various bus systems and free transportation. I have learned how to drop and add classes when I could not find a book needed for a class, how to deal with the financial aid department and the various departments to obtain deferments for financial obligations that will be paid by financial aid. I have been provided a great support system from the Exploratory program. I have learned where to go to get information. I have an advisor through the Exploratory program to advise me on classes, arrange for tutors and keep me on track. I have a R.A. (Resident Assistant) that provides me with knowledge regarding residence living and a great go-to person for tons of information. And when all else fails, go to the TV room (lounge) and just ask the other students.

I always imagined I was going to cure cancer someday, travel to the moon and feed the hungry. Those are pretty big dreams, but I was never the type to take the easy way out. Earning my associates degree was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, but the feeling I had as I walked in front of the crowd to be handed my diploma made me understand that all the stresses, all the long sleep-deprived nights of studying and working were all worth it. Your education is as good as the time and effort you put into it. Realistically, I know I don't have to cure cancer or travel to the moon and that I'll inevitably find ways to feed the hungry and help the poor and give back to the community with gratitude for all I have. I understand that being productive means picking a goal, working hard, and knowing that, with a little help from those willing to help, it's in my power to succeed. Should I receive this scholarship, I will put to good use the hard-earned money that went into creating it, and will be very grateful.

I had never been able to fully appreciate the many great opportunities Florida State University has been offering its students since 1851, until this right moment where i get to think about my experiences at the University. As a women and minority, i feel fortunate, to say the least, of being part of such exquisite Institute. No matter where i go or who i talk to, i always feel at home. Counselors advice and always guide their students in the right path. Professors are informative and always willing to take time out of their busy day to make sure students understand all given material. The green scenery allows me to always travel instantaneously to a place where no stress has ever existed. The flowers, the trees, the buildings and the architecture... All is breathtaking. I've found myself though out all this years as a college student. I have gained self confidence and realized that no matter where my accomplishments take me, i will always feel the need to learn, study, and make every single day better than the previous one. And to always believe that im putting no limitations to any of my destinations in my life.
