What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Dielma

Education is the best we could get for our life. If we are prepared for the future we can help build a better world. Thats why I work hard to become a professional.

Joel

Que piensen en estudiar siempre, que sobre todas las cosas se enfoquen en prepararse para tener un futuro excelente. Nunca se rindan que con la ayuda de Dios todo se puede!

Sharayah

I'll tell myself to study more, because college life is very serious, It helps you to become a better person and a good professional.

Alicia

If I could go back I would have waited to start a family and gone straight to college. Many people, mainly family, told me to make sure I went straight to college and not to take breaks from semesters. If I would have listened I would have been done years ago. I waited and now ten years later I have finally received my associates degree but now I am, once again, changing my path. I also would go back and make sure that I had confidence and determination in myself to complete college even with children and a husband that was in the military. I should have done more online classes than I did to get it done sooner. I wish I would have believed in myself as well. I didn't realize till my husbands deployment that I was capable of handling a career, school, and being a single parent. I now know that I am capable of achieving any goal no matter what age I am or what responsibilities I have. Anything and everything is possible as long and you believe in yourself and have determination to achieve.

Anthony

Im talk for myself and i say: Hey you go to the university and you need understand that it is a diferent life than the high school. Do your better move and i know something you can do it. Be responsable and take that seriously because tha is the window of your future, that is the key for your own proud. God give to you a oportunity prove yourselve that you can do it. thak you very much

rocio

If I go back in time more will trust in my abilities and I would not hesitate in going to college and finish a Professions. I understand that every step in life is important and has advantages and disadvantages. That there is no wrong desicion if not decisions that over time they teach you to see and understand life from another side. Would study the same way to get ahead and thanks of that I begin my third year of college. College life is an interesting time in which one is filled with much excitement and learning to continue forward. I love the university and is a world completely different from what one lives from kindergarten to fourth grade. Enhance my skills and would start with more confidence.

Stephen

Having completed a year of college and beginning only to realize that I still have so much left on the plate I am trying to finish. Given the chance to go back and tell my senior year self about what I know now would be a real revelation. I would be able to tell myself that college is not something to fear, but something to embrace knowing that I am only one more step closer to becoming what I am destined to be. Following that, I would talk about how college is all about motivation, keeping up with all the work and stress is going to require a strong-willed student that I am soon to become. Then go on about how procrastinating must come to a stop and get everything together in order to fully handle what life is about to throw towards me. Along with that, I would advise myself to say the final goodbyes to my fellow classmates because you will most likely never see them again. Stories of hanging out after high school were only a fantasy. Finally, I would tell myself, never settle for anything less then what you want out of life.

Jowan

At the time I was on High school, sadly nobody ever gave me an advice about how college would be. So Im glad I could write it down here so somebody that have the same experience that I had could recieve and advice. I would like to tell that its very important to research about what you really want to study and look up for the best College to go. Then you need to talk to that college advicer so they give you the best class progam for you. Then fill up youre heart and mind of expectatives and dreams, use them to begin your career and focus on you. Listen to others opinion and thoughts but dont let bad influences control your thoughts and believings. Look for the best companions and dont let bad times put you down. Keep it up always!!!!

Vanessa

If I could go back in time I would say to my self to enjoy college life but be responsible, there is time for everything but most importantly to study.

Ryan

The first thing that I would say to myself would be stay focist, don't get caught up in, or put yourself in a situation that could be misread as unprofessional, nore irresponsible. Knowlege comes with time well spent, so use the time you have in school wisely. Understand that everyone has their own agenda, and stay focussed on yours not theirs. Theirs might steer you away from your goals, and not everyone has your best interest at heart. When you're doing school work do it 110{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}. By thinking this way the chances of getting a 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} is better. Don't sweet the small stuff, and keep your eye on the big picture. A great education that will lead to a great job, and inreturn will give you security, and peace of mind. There are a couple of different types of people out their, doers, I should of done, or I wish I could have. You want to be a doer accomplishing your goals, have no regrets, and keep your chin up. Always remember you're a great person no matter what anybody else says, and you'll go far.

Brian

I was seventeen and thought I knew everything about life but was very unaware of my journey ahead. If I could go back to that first day of my freshmen year I would tell my former me not to waste a minute of time. I would say “Brian….you are not going to listen to a lot of advice from other adults because you think that your expectations and cunningness will get you through life and that you won’t have the problems that your parents did because you will always have a plan. Well it doesn’t work that way because I am you in the future and the only way to secure your future is to listen to me closely. You need to do all your school work every day and try your hardest to get in to college. Without this you will struggle later to go to college and try to support your family, as I am finding this very hard to do now.” “Please do this for yourself and future family. Your wife and kids beautiful and deserve much more than what I can provide for them right now so please do this for them.”

Yaritza

Assuming I return time back and I can advise on college life and the change that this entails, advise me to take as long as possible. Do not waste even a moment, and that college life is precious and it is a privilege that few have and cherish. I would say that I make every effort to achieve the goals as costs but has its rewards. We also have advised me to choose the first option and Inter and it is the best. But as you can not turn the clock back and change anything in the past, remains for me to tell me that if I can change my mind and so affect my future positively. So I advise you to continue fighting and to work towards being a teacher who longs to be. And look for all the aid needed to achieve the goal, is never too late to achieve what one sets out, only need the desire and will. Focus and reach, this is the best advice.

Anthony

I will tell me that , the university is a new world different for all that I see before , that is a good place full of new adventures If I will maintain myself focus in what is important , that live the moment but never distracted from the priorities, and absorb all of knowledge that will be give me from the beginning. And if I can just tell me only one advice, that would be, enjoy as you are learning , because as Albert Einstein said ,” Never consider the study as an obligation but as an opportunity to enter the beautiful and wonderful world of learning.”

Sonovia

Sonovia, please don't get caught up in the entertainment life of your senior year. Please make sure that you fully prepare yourself for this fall. Make sure that you schedule out everything in a timely manner of what needs to be done. Also, don't get caught up in high school drama, especially when it's not even about you. Do not let other people tell you that you can't do something when you havn't even tried to pursue that dream yet. Be aware of your surroundings and the environment that you will put yourslef in when you go to college. Be patient with some things in life because the best things take time. When you go to college this fall, make sure that you are mentally prepared and opened to new things. Most of all, don't forget where you come from, because it is your dignity, demeanor, and determination that got you to the next step in your life.

Anyelisa

If I could go back in time and become a high school senior once more I will tell mself to stay focus and look for the best ways to achieve your goals. Choose the best and most convenience university for you. The Interamerican University is a good choice because it has diversity of educational programs, resources, and tutoring.

joseline

College life is very hard. Some have situations harder than others but it doesn't matter the circumstances a person finds themself in, what matters is what they choose to do to make it better. Here are a few tips: Get a job when attending college because it is very expensive inspite of scholarships. Trying your very best to get good grades and maintain a 3.50 gpa to earn a scholarship is also important not only for the student but it will certainly help out parents/legal guardians. Never quit! Even when failing a class, repeat it. If feeling confused on what you want to study and become, take general classes the first year so you can explore school and yourself. Don't be afraid to ask a responsable adult to give you advice when you need guidance. Buying books can be quite expensive, so always find bargains or borrow them. The transition of high school to college is easier for some people than others, so take the time to enjoy the journey while still getting your education.

Karla

I would advise to work harder, study and much striving to perform better as a student. I would say spend as much time as possible to things in college, at any time capitalizing on the opportunity I have to study and succeed. I also would say it is not easy, but not impossible. And the nice thing is difficult but with patience is achieved. And I hope to get a scholarship to continue my studies to be useful. Thanks.

Ashley

Wow, if I had the opportunity to go back and give me an advice , i think i would have taken the decision of being at the Inter American Univerity in Arecibo, instead of Colegio de Mayaguez. As a High School senior I spend time thinking of what was best for me in the future and I didnt realize that Inter Arecibo was and excelent college, that if we proposed to be good, we could impress any company and at the end of any career we coud find great job opportunities. In high school I had a great GPA, and that mayde me be more responsable with college, i still have a great GPA and I think thats all the effort and all the guidance of special people that were around since High School. Life in college is something diferent and as seniors we believe that is going to be very hard in all that, but the real thing is that if you have a balance between college and social life everything is going to be great.

Gina

If I could go back in time and offer myself advice knowing what I now know, I would tell myself that, although it's important to continue to work hard and constantly challenge yourself, it's also important to relax and enjoy the journey. College life is a completely new experience where you meet a myriad of different people and learn so many amazing things about yourself and life in general. I would tell myself not to be nervous or afraid because even though, in a sense, you're leaving behind the safety and security of what you know and you're stepping outside of your comfort zone, you're also embracing a whole new world and a fresh start. College life is different and challenging but it's also exciting and rewarding. The transition may be difficult at first but it is well worth the struggle. If I could go back in time and talk to myself knowing what I know now, I would look myself straight in the eyes and tell myself that I am much stronger than I give myself credit for so don't be afraid, trust yourself and embrace the challenge.

Hermes Jose

Never give up! Even the University is not was I thought

Melissa

To try more hard and be more responsible. And to never drop classes. University and scholarships are one thing on one life and if I could and have the opportunity to start over and be more responsible and assertive, I would do it all again!! But for now I have to fight for the present that is to finish College on May 2012, because I need the money for my studies. The transition of going on college is amazing, People become more responsible and mature!

Pedro

"You know that high school was fun and maybe not worry too much of your classes and grades but in college you'll be studying something that will decide your future as a professional. So in college, work hard and create study habits, take time between fun and the college because when yo graduate you'll be very proud of the professional you will be. I know you can do it!!"

Shirley

If I go back in time and talk to myself I would say “do not quit high school and go to college because attending college is a worthwhile investment in my future.” When I was a teenager I made a big mistake and dropped out of high school, which I regretted. So I went back and got my GED. I had always planned on going back to finish up college next year, but life happened and the next year became the next and so on. In the past twenty-two years, I have raised two beautiful, compassionate daughters. The years have continued to fly by since dropping out of high school, and one day I turned around to realize that my oldest was graduating college and my youngest is graduating high school in a few weeks. While my priority has always been to raise my children, the dream of achieving a degree in nursing is still my goal. If I go back in time I would tell myself “you can make things easier on yourself and get an education while you are young.” When I finish college it will be rewarding to have completed one of my life long goals.

Heather

As a student, I have so many interests that I couldn't decide which path I wanted to choose when I first began college. If I could, I would tell myself that it's alright not to know what you want to do with the rest of your life. It's important to know that you don't have to figure things out all at once. The truth is, there are a lot of people like you who have the same dilemma. College is the prime time to discover who you are and what you love because of the various opportunities it gives you to try something new. By testing the waters and pursuing your interests in basic subjects such as, science or english, you can discover more specifically what you are truly passionate about. Spread your wings and don't be afraid to break out of your shell because you may stumble upon something that could change your ambitions in life.

Victor

My advice would be, "this" moment in particular is crucial for the development of his life. With such exceptional professors, with motivation and commitment he will succeed. That decision will be one that he will not regret.

Edwin

Think carefully on what career you want to follow. Most programs can give the false idea if you don't do the research beforehand. Expect a lot of hard work, and prepare for the transition finding out what you want to do after you reach the goal. A career without base doensn't work.

Tracey

My advice to be successful in college would be to give the college decision careful thought. Involve your parents in your decision. Not all schools are alike so take college visits and find one that is a good fit and suits your needs. You don't need to attend the same college as your best friend or boyfriend/girlfriend. In fact, college is a great place to meet new people and find new resources in the world beyond high school. Take your studies seriously. You will be paying substantial amounts of dollars to attend college therefore, give a full and honest effort to be successful. You will also find that striving to achieve academic success will open up new doors and opportunities, and it will prepare one for career success once out of school. Always set new goals and work diligently toward them. College is a great place to make a fresh start for a successful adult life. Always remember, if you run into challenges during your college years, there are many staff and faculty at the educational institutes that are eager to help you through them. They, too want to see you use your potential and be successful.

Mary

Okay Mary, stop stressing out! You don't need to worry about where you're going to live or making new friends. Everything will work out just fine. You're going to make a ton of friends and meet so many people. College is amazing, but it's nothing like high school. It takes a lot of work, especially the Vet Tech program. You need to do a lot of studying but all that work is worth it. Oh, and you made the right decision to go to Ridgewater even though you changed your mind a week before graduation. The most important advice I have to give is to seize the day and just have fun!

Marissa

When i was a high school senior i was pregnant with my second child. This was a difficult time for me. i went to an alternitive high school and worked very hard. I ended up graduating early. If I could go back in time and give myself advise i would say to study more and save up some money because college is expensive. Even if you have help from grants and loans this money runs out fast. I would also tell myself to make better study habits and learn how to take batter notes because college involves way more studing anf note taking than high school does.

Samuel

College is fun. The teachers actually care if you are there, and if you need help teachers and classmates are always more then happy to try to help fix issues. College will teach you many fun things and allow you to meet many fun happy people. If you are worried that you wont be able to pay for college remember that there are many scholarship opertunies and other finantial aid programs that can help make paying and living in college much easier. Good luck and keep working hard.

Carol

I would advise myself to stay in school and work harder at my school work. I would tell myself to place less importance on what other students say and do. I didn't get much emotional support and guidance about the facts of life and relationships with the opposite sex and I definately would advise myself to not be in such a hurry to be married and start a family. I would advise myself to pursue my education first and put more importance on having a career, rather than just a job. I would also tell myself not to be afraid, that fear of failure often causes one to not even try, therefore never allowing ones self to experience the joy and satisfaction that comes with being successful. I would remind myself to look at my mistakes as learning expieriences and to not be afraid of making mistakes, after all school is all about learning and growing and sometimes the lessons learned through our mistakes are the ones we remember the best. I would say, keep your eyes focused forward and maintain a positive attitude, be flexible and willing to reach out a helping hand to others when you can.

Anna

I wish i would have filled out more scholarship because college is really expensive! If i had more money i would have went to a 4 year degree and im still looking into it. Four year degrees are really expensive though but im still considering it bcause i would like to have more education.

Sheila

Don't think you have all the time in life to finish a degree. It is so much easier to continue studying than stopping and starting again. Also, this is the time for a new adventure that even though seems stressful it actually will help you in growing your character and personality. Remember, you don't have to see finishing a four year degree as a far away thing. Look back and you will see that only four years ago you started high school and now is almost finishes. In addition, take small steps. Do not look at how many classes you need, but rather what have you accomplished so far. Good luck!

Anabel

If I could turn back time, I was better prepared and had chosen the Inter American University as first choice for my education, because this university has an excellent education, students come better prepared and gives us the opportunity to progress to be in the future the best professionals in Puerto Rico. I would tell my friends that are prepared well for them to have excellent preparation, not to waste their time because the time is never lost again and to elect the Inter American University as the institution for professional training because it is the best institution is in Puerto Rico.

Jesenia

Never listen to peer pressure. Believe in yourself always. Push yourself to make the extra mile. Work for strong knowledge base on mathematics (extremely important), chemistry, physics, biology, english and spanish. Learn foreing languages. Do not waste time in unimportant things. Have an agenda that helps you succeed being responsable with school work, gives you free time to do recreational sports and activities and spend time with family members. Look for good advice from the real professionals and make the decision when you are sure. Ask for help when needed. Never give up. Stay focused. With time the goals wil be conquered. Think about if I will work or not so that I can financially succeed.

derick

College, everyone wants to graduate and continue on to gain a college degree. If i were able to travel back in time and see myself as a senior there would be three very important tips I would give myself. the first tip would be apply for more scholarships than i would need for the tutition of the school, because you still have to pay for books, supplies, room, meals, gas, etc. so scholarships would be necessary so that my younger self would not need to have to work part-time and could study full-time. the second would be save all the money I had worked for instead of wasting it on useless items that will not help in college. The third tip would not be anything academic, but it effects your grades and can ruin your chances of getting into a great college. the final tip would be do not focus your time on your relationships. If your not careful and you focus to much on your relationships you'll forget about your work and your grades will begin to slip. of course there is alot more i would change these are a few things I would change.

Rosa

My advice serious before choosing any university you must do a search of every course that they offer and of which you looked that it is what really you want to study. Also that it extracts time to study and that the clase do not lack and that aims at every detail that the teacher explains in the class and all doubts have do not be afraid and that asks it the teachers. And finally I wish the better of the world him and that the experience that is going to have in the university for the first time goes to never do brutally and forgotten and that every minute that does not lose his time that is important for his I excite in the life

Zulmarie

I will tell myself to stay focuse in my proffesional career and to always give my best in everything I do . That not always everything it is going to come out like I want it, but that I have to stay on track, fighting for what I want with God as center of my life.

Jon

Dear Mini Me, This is a message from yourself from 2 years in the future, to advise you on things of great importance. First of all, work as hard as you can in classes, in other words don't let the senior slide get to you. You need those grades in order to recieve scholarships that you need to afford school. Tip number two, when you first arrive at school and your classes kick off don't be afraid to walk up to people you don't know and introduce yourself. You never know what friends you could make to help you with classes or just to have some new friends. Don't be afraid what your friends will think if you stay to study instead of going to a party, but also don't only spend time in the books. You are going to school to learn but to also become your own person and show the world who you are, so every now and then just give yourself a break. Both of us know that you need that break now and then. Well I would love to give you more but I am limited to 200 words. SeeyoulaterMiniMe!

MARIA

I would say: do not worry, do not be afraid to believe that you can not with the university. The classes are stronger and teachers are more demanding but you can with it. Do not worry about how you'll pay for college will receive scholarship assistance. Do not go to biotechnology, did not like. Enroll in Nursing love this profession. Gives 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} in your classes. Do not be afraid to participate in the plays are very good. Not afraid to be yourself there are many with whom you get along. Learn all you can, give it your best. It is competitive as it has done so far. Do not just take the basic classes, give a lot of work. choose as many classes as possible each semester. Take advantage of summer school and if in doubt go to the counselor. Tutoring takes if in doubt. Do not turn down any course is horrible to have a W on your record. Help others but do not work for someone else or give your work for someone else to copy, is not healthy. Harness the library has great books and you can take them home. It is a good deal.

caitlin

After being in college for almost a year now, there are a few things I wish I had known or realized in high school. First, I would tell myslf to try harder during my first three years of high school. I didn't start taking grades and college seriously until my senior year. I recieved straight A's my senior year just by studying a little harder and putting in some extra work. Second, I would advise myself not to postpone college and scholarship applications. Applications can take alot of time and it is necessary to fill them out early in case of errors that need to be corrected. The last piece of advice I would give myself would be to learn better study habits, as well as to study more often. In high school it was easy for me to not study and still do well on tests, but in college studying is crucial. All of these would have been extremely helpful to know in high school and I would advise any high school student to work on these things while they can.

Yelitza

I will advice myself to do things on time, I mean to get things done when I have too, without jumping from one stage of my life to another ignoring the normal course of life. I would also advice myself to enjoy college life to its most as this is a precious time of life. And most off all I would prepare my self for life.

Janice Marie

After determining which university is better established, as I see a future in which working, among other questions that would make me regard myself, determined and was seeking more information about Inter American University of Puerto Rico to determine whether it I'm really aware of the correct information. If so, would begin to think and determminar which is what I really attracts attention to practice a profession the rest of my life and give all of mi.Al end and know that the best option is The American Unversity of Puerto Rico is then I would advise myself to study it.

Megan

If I could go back in time and talk to myself as a high school senior, I would tell me to stay straight and keep my eye on the prize. That would be graduating high school and getting right into college, forget taking the break. Because it really is true what they say "if you take a year off, you might as well just say your not going to college", cause look at me know age 26 and trying to go back to school

Stanley S

I would like to tell myself to study harder and pick the right major. I was major in Engineering Science and then I decided to enroll in Electrical Engineering in Sophmore year. One year later I changed my major from Electrical Engineering to Civil Engineering. I failed one class and my GPA was below 2.0. I was disqualified for Financial Aid. I withdrew from Widener in 1993. In 2007 I decided to back to Community College of Philadelphia and I am major in Business in order to better myself. I will tranfer to 4-year college to get my degree in Finance near future.

nataly

I hope that universities serve as an example for other universities and I would like to be the Livestock on this incuesta to students

Janice

I would have told myself to apply in the U.S. to keep my options open and I would've told myself to keep focused on what I wanted and not on the fun part of college life.

jaime

The same advice i gave to myself when i decided to enter the Interamerican Univerisity of P.R in the Arecibo campus. Life is about taking chances and aiming higher than we can posibly achieve. By doing so, our goal would be even better than we expected it would have been. I love my university since it has helped me become a better person and has given me the oportunity to evolve as a future profesional. I dont have any regrets towards my education in the past few years. I am very grateful and i hope to continue studying until i achieve my doctorate degree.

Caleb

The one piece of advice I would personally give to myself would have to be, to not go to a junior college. For me a junior college was not the right thing, for others it could be. The thing that I wish that I had known before signing up would be the lack of student life on campus. I need something more than just going to school; I need an outside life with friends and other fun activities to go with my college life. I think that is why personally junior college wasn't for me. It was students who came and went to school with no clubs or groups to get involved in. Along with that, I would have to say that extracurricular activities are vital to student life. I think that it is important to my education to interact with other students who have the same degree interests as you do and share the same passions.

Stephanie

Be your self and keep your studying techniques
