Iowa State University Top Questions

In my opinion, Iowa State is unique because it is a large school full of students from small town backgrounds. A large portion of the ISU student population come from high schools with less than 100 people in their graduating class. While this can certainly not be said for every student (my graduating class had about 450 people), the fact that it is true of many students gives Iowa State a unique hometown feel.

Iowa State University is not just a school, but an entire community with history, and a drive for success. The city of Ames, Iowa, is very appreciative of the school and its students for keeping the city's economy and businesses thriving. Founded in 1858, the school holds much nestalgia with the architecture of many buildings and their famous landmarks that are well-known nationally. Even with an enrollment count of almost 31,000 students, the teachers and staff still manage to successfully seek out the needs of every one of their students so that they receive the best education.

Iowa state has so much to offer. A ton of majors, hundreds of clubs and the greek community is an amazing thing to be a part of.

Small classes and a very friendly atmosphere.

There is just something about the atmosphere around Iowa State University. Everyone here is very friendly and kind. There is definitely a small town feeling where people like to interact even if you have never meet them before. Ames is a great location too because it's a small city but has big city attractions. It is a college polulated town.

Prior to transferring from Joliet Junior College (the nation's first), none of the schools in Illinois made me feel like I really 'belonged' there. I tagged along on a school visit to Iowa State (only 5 hours from home!), and the out-of-state tuition cost just as much as University of IL in-state. I felt welcomed upon my visit, they ranked as the #5 school for Agriculture Education, and the campus made me feel like home. If I'm going to be in debt with loans, I may as well enjoy where I'll be learning.

Iowa State University offers a great education for a huge field of majors from largely known ones like accounting, to ones like only offered at a handfull of schools like Biological/Premedical Illustration. Not to mention the student community is phenominal. One of the big things that attracted me to Iowa State was the amount of extracurriculars that all of the students had access to and how friendly all of the different groups were that I interacted with.

Iowa State is so unique because of it's campus. It is really a beautiful campus and it makes you want to go to class and go outside and do things. Also, I know every school has plenty of oppurtunities but Iowa State really pushes every individual to take advantage of everything there is to offer. Even though there are thousands of students, the staff caters to your individual needs and you don't feel as if you're just another student.

What's unique about Iowa State is its dedication to the philosophies of science and engineering. At Iowa State, one of the resounding themes is innovation and progress. We are all about using the information we know to build upon and to make our lives healthier, easier, and more enjoyable. Even if you're not a science or engineering major, the themes of a career built on the tenets of the scientific method is ingrained into the student curriculum. This is unorthodox, but it has given me a much broader perspective, and for that I am thankful.

When I visited this campus, I was really impressed by the aesthetically pleasing layout. The campus was not spread out all over town, but it was still large. I always enjoy the nice days that I can walk around campus comfortably, taking in all of the sites and hidden features of our gorgeous campus.

It was alot bigger than the other schools, has alot more going on and has more social activities than the others.

Iowa State University is truly one of a kind. I considered many small private schools but my final decision was Iowa State. I didn't exactly know why I loved it so much until I got here. From the football games to the teachers, the learning communities to the sororities, and the dorms to the dining centers, there is a community like no other. I feel not only welcomed, but encouraged to be the best person I can be at Iowa State. I have found the place where I belong.

Iowa State is unique in that it has an extremely large student population, but the town (Ames) keeps the feel of a small farm city. The university itself gives you countless opportunities to try new things, but a student coming from a farmer/midwest background won't feel overwhelmed by a large city feel.

Everything on campus is within a 20 minute walk from anywhere, and everything is all in one place. I like to describe it as the campus being surrounded by the city instead of IN the city. It is really easy to get exercise without going to the gym because the campus is almost like a park, it is so beautiful. Academics are taken really seriously here, and there isn't really a constant pressure to go out and party like there is other places.

Something unique about my school is that there is a wide array of diversity across campus making it a great example of equality at its finest since everyone is given equal opportunity and people of all cultures and traditions are appreciated because they have so much to give back to the campus environment.

Iowa State is very science and engineering based college. Our campus is compact but there is also a lot of green space and during the fall and spring, most of it is convered with students playing games and sports as wellas studing. We have all sorts of clubs from anything like Kumdo to IEEE. All the students are friendly and willing to help eachother.

The campus is unlike any other campus ive ever seen and the students and staff have great relationships.

Iowa State University is more unique than the other schools that I considered becuase it is close to home, my mom graduated from here, they have over 800 clubs for students to choose from, and it is just an overall great place to live and learn. It also has a lot of qualified professors that teach lectures. Iowa State doesn't discriminate against race, ethnicity, or gender appeal.

Iowa State University has a great program for my major. It is close to home, but not too close. It is a very welcoming community, despite having tens of thousands of students.

Iowa State University provides a great variety of services to students, more than any other university I know. For example, they offer free tutoring for multi-cultural students and free student counseling.

The Salt Company has been an incredible blessing to me at Iowa State. They are a nondenominational Christian organization that reaches out to students with the gospel and serves Christ. I am surrounded with friends and mentors that support me and help guide me in my faith. God has blessed me immensely through his provision of The Salt Company and in all things here at Iowa State.

The people at Iowa State are so nice and helpful. Every single person at the university wants to see you succeed. The entire community revolves around the university and will bend over backwards in order to make your experience enjoyable. Other schools can match the beautiful campus, strong academics, or talented athletic programs, but no other school could match the amazing community and environment that Ames provides for Iowa State University.

I chose Iowa State University because of its Animal Science program. This college has amazing programs in agriculture and science. I plan on applying to veterinary school after I graduate, and I feel Iowa State provides the classes and experiences that will help me succeed.

Since I went in for Chemical Engineering Iowa State was in the top 10 colleges for Chemical Engineering and was a strong college for engineering overall. I also recieved the best deal in comparison to other colleges in terms of overall cost and finacial aid recieved. Since I never was able to go look at any of my college choices I am unsure about and asthetic aspects that is unique to my school, however I beleve we have one of the largest collections of public art on a college campus.

The one thing that put Iowa State at the head of my list was the scenery. The campus really is beautiful and with Lake Laverne and all the trees, it makes me feel at home because I lived in the country. Having a little "woods" area helps me relax if the town/city live gets to be too much. I could have pursued an education anywhere, but Iowa State is one of the best schools around plus its scenery made it a win win combination for me.

The most unique thing about Iowa State University is Campustown! There are lots of cute coffee shops, book stores and inviting places to eat. It is always rewarding to meet friends there for lunch or just a quick study break. Plus, on the weekends Campustown often has special events going on!

Iowa State University is unique because there's so many different ethnicities walking around campus. Iowa State also is very good about getting jobs for it's graduated students.

Iowa State University is a college with over 26,000 students. However, over the years you find that somehow every one is connected to someone you know. It's pretty crazy, but it makes a big school feel like a big family.

The most unique feature to the Iowa State Campus compared to the other schools I considered was the small feel on a big campus. Iowa State has almost 28,000 students, but it feels a lot smaller because the relative closeness of everything on the campus. I fell in love with that feeling, and it has created a good home away from home for me.

There are so many oppertunites because it is a bigger university that you won't get when attending smaller colleges.

Its unique in the amount of clubs offered. There is a club for every interest. Whether a student enjoys juggling or want to take stand against descrimination of homosexuals. I love the amount of people that participate in them.

The campus is the most beautiful of the ones that I had visited. The overall atmosphere is very welcoming and there is lots of school spirit, especially at varsity sports events.

Its a lot bigger then other schools, and even though it seems big to people, its a very small community. Because its a big school, it also means that the classes are bigger, but there is always someone there to help you. There is also some classes that have less then twenty students which some people are surprised about.

Iowa State had the program I needed for my career choice. A Bovine Veterinarian.

One thing that is unique about Iowa State University is the ISUCF'V'MB! For those who don't know, this acronym stands for the Iowa State University Cyclone Football 'Varsity' Marching Band. The ISUCF'V'MB is nicknamed the "pride of Iowa State", "the best of the Midwest", and "the Varsity band". The marching band has many unique traditions such as marching around the stadium on game day, "cycloning" fans, and their famous high stepping! The ISUCF'V'MB is truely the "Pride of Iowa State".

Iowa State's school of design is well known for the programs they offer. In order to get into the programs, you must first complete a year of core design before applying for the programs. Iowa State is a large school with 20,000 students but still offers classes with 30 students or less. However, some of the classes are lectures which have over one hundred students in a class. Also, Iow State offers a vast amount of students organizations to join and participate in.

Iowa State University was the largest of the schools I considered and was far enough away from home for freedom, but near enough for a reasonable driving distance during holidays.

I really felt at home when I arrived at Iowa State. They put alot of effort into providing you with opportunities to make new friends.

Iowa State is in Ames, which is a smaller city than many college towns are. The other school that I seriously considered was the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, but I decided that I didn't want to live in a huge city for four years when I'm used to living on a farm.

I thought it was important that my undergraduate university be close to my childhood home and my family. It is also a great school for pre-veterinary students, which is what I started out as. Most people change their majors and many people don't finish in four years, so if your plans change you'll have nothing to be ashamed of.

It has a beautiful campus. Even though it is a relatively large school, it has the feeling of a small school

The most unique thing about Iowa State University's campus is the architecture. The buildings and art around the school are beautiful. A person could walk for hours and still not see all it has to offer. With this being said, the campus is still small enough that one can walk across it within twenty minutes. This offers a close knit community that most other school do not offer. It builds school pride and spirit and allows each individual to be beaming with pride about different aspects of their education.

Iowa State University has a very diverse student body and a large international exchange student population. Being a midwestern college it has an expectation and perhaps a stereotype of consisting of a largely white population. Iowa State combats that with its large international student population and very active student groups representing diverse populations; Black Student Alliance, Hispanic student groups, LGBLTA, and groups of diverse religions also. ISU is located in a fairly small city of 30,000, the student population is also about 30,000. The city buses are free and you can get anywhere within a 20 minute ride.

This university offered the major I wanted. I wanted the full college experience, and since the only other schools with my major were art schools, I jumped at the chance to attend ISU.

Iowa State University is full of great programs for freshmen to get involved and to make everyone feel like they are friends, whether they have talked to others or not. They also have a small enough campus and enough busses that you can make it to all of your classes on time every day.

The unique thing about Iowa State is the various types of people you can meet in one day. The Greek life isn't too huge and there are clubs for almost everything. Almost everyone is friendly so its easy to meet new people any where you go. Its hard not to appreciate the beauty of the campus, especially when the seasons are changing.

Iowa State makes sure that there are several people that care about your time at their school and they make sure that you're doing ok in all aspects of your life. They like to call your time at Iowa State an "adventure" because it truly is. Iowa State has so many activities to do and is filled with diversity. Iowa State is filled with beautiful architecture but is up to date on technology at the same time. The campus is also very beautiful in the forms of nature and art.

Iowa State has always been my number one choice ever since I was a little girl. We'd go to football games and different shows. Those memories helped me make my choice to become a cyclone. They not only provide students with numerous amounts of activites but they get their students families involved with such events. The university supports diversity within its campus by making everyone free welcome and expected. The campus structure is conventant and easy to manage to and from class along with getting around the Ames city area. The living conditions make students feel more at home.
