What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Nathan

The most frustrating thing is doing math homework online.

Alyson

A lot of the dorms don't have air conditioning.

Elizabeth

The most frustrating thing about this school is the internet homework postings. Lately, we've been having quite a few issues with assignments and quizzes not showing up. The professors have been more than accomadating with these issues and they are working on getting them fixed by next semester.

Benjamin

Iowa State University's enrollment is predominately White/Caucasian. As a student who welcomes diversity and takes joy in the collaboration of different cultures, it can be very limiting to have classes with only white Midwestern students like yourself.

Samantha

The most frustrating thing about my school is the class sizes. I hate that I can never find a seat in my lecture halls.

Ryan

The parking division.

Shawn

So far I have not attended any classes, but the biggest issue so far is the lack of a peer mentor to get started as there is a lot of differences between this school and being at home or at a smaller school.

Basil

During orientation you had to ask the right question to the right person. If you didn't then you would never get an important question answered and you would be left lost.

Nicole

Housing and financial aid. I currently have a GPA at college of 3.90 and receive barely any financial aid from college. My parents income combined is under $65,000. However, I do not qualify for any financial aid. I would like to attend grad school for doctorial degree but can't afford to take out more student loans.

Brady

It's a big school, so occasionally it can be easy to feel more like a statistic than an individual.

Dillon

The campus is rather large, so if you plan on walking to class, you have to leave extra early. Also, the dorm rooms are extremely overpriced. I am living in a university apartment now, and I have 5 times the space for $400 less per year than the dorm.

Calie

The most frustrating thing about Iowa State is trying to get the exact classes you need at the correct time.

Brianna

The most frustrating thing about ISU is probably that I don't feel connected to it at all. I live off campus, so it's much harder to connect, to get involved. It's hard to get to office hours, to club activities, to study areas.

Hannah

The most frustrating thing I have encountered at Iowa State Univerisity is working with the advisors. I have attended ISU for 3 years and I have had 4 advisors. One of my advisors my first year had me sign up for a math class, I ended up doing very poorly in it only to find out I did not need to take that class.

Jennifer

The most frustrating thing about Iowa State for me would probably be the size of the campus. It made me anxious when I had 10 minutes to get across campus to my next class sometimes. I was never late, but I walked fast.

Caitlin

Even though Chicago is called "The Windy City", Iowa State is much more windy and VERY cold in the winter. Walking from class to class is frustrating in the winter. You have to worry about whether you are dressed right, if you will fall on the ice, etc.

Hannah

The most frustrating thing is some of the professors who are so bad you essentially have to teach yourself everything and whose tests are badly written. These classes are artificially hard and very frustrating.

Carissa

The Cost

Kelsey

The most frustrating thing about my school would be how classes are so far apart and you have little time to reach your destination. With the large amount of students it is hard to make your way through them all to get where your going at a fast pace.

Amanda

Housing! It's all expensive whether you're on campus or off. And the on-campus housing has no services to set you up with a roommate you'll get along with, they leave you to fend for yourself. So if you don't already know someone you can live with, you're out of luck.

Caleb

It seems that binge drinking is the principal activity to participate in when it comes to experiencing a good night life. I have stopped drinking because I am enamored of physical fitness. Another thing I strongly disliked and found monumentally frustrating was that ISU promoted VEISHA (basically a party week for students) right before finals, making it quite difficult to focus on school work. Most times I refuse to go out when I need to study, but I found myself capitulating to the social events. Perhaps these events should not be dated prior to finals.

Kelsie

The most frustrating thing is housing. It is set up so that you register and choose your own housing online, which is very convenient. The downfall is that only a few places open up on a certain day and sometimes it's hard to find a place to live for a group of 4 that has 4 spots still open and it gets even harder as time goes on for smaller groups (especially two people, when all the four person places have three people in them).

abrahem

i think there is nothing frustrating about my school, in fact it is so exciting and well organized and once you attend it you would feel that you are home with people who really love to help you and guid you to the right bath

Reid

Not getting enough money. So help me out please.

Calvin

Nothing to this day has really frustrated me too much here except for some professors that don't really help their students with their work.

Michelle

The most frustrating aspect about Iowa State Univeristy is summer classes. Most of them do not fill up to the desired about they wish, so the University ends up dropping them for the summer. I enjoy taking summer classes to lighten my course load for semester, but when something like this happens in the summer it tends to mess up my schedule for the Fall or Spring.

Caitlin

People who claim to have open minds and are said to be tolerant, but turn right around and don't care what I have to say. It seems they tolerate everything except me and what I believe. They think I'm the one who isn't tolerant. Go figure.

Samantha

The parking division and the lack of parking there is on and off campus.

Brant

In my opinion, the most frustrating aspect about Iowa State University is the lack of diversity. While the University is making positive strides in increasing a broader range of ethnicities, the school still lacks a healthy blend of diverse cultures. I feel that it would be beneficial for the students to interact with more ethnicities while in college to better prepare them for the ever growing global village.

Cody

...the only things that frustrate me are things that the school can't control. ex: trouble on homework (but it is very easy to get help on your homework if you're proactive about it)

Semehar

The most frustration thing about my school is the parking tickets and the difficulty of the homework assignments and exams.

Suncica

Paying for school. Fasfa doesn't have a section to bubble in for my life situation. Our family fits the income sufficiently, but what I can't describe is that we send half of that income back to Bosnia because our families are starving there is still much poverty back home. I am blessed to be here in America and to be going to this school for architecture, Iowa State is one of the top ranked architecture schools in the nation so I can't complain it’s a great program.

Tim

Nothing

clayton

the most frustrating thing here at ISU is that sometimes the professors don't teach their subject matter the best they can, and some of the exams are challenging compared to homework problems and in class problems.

Jessica

This is a hard question to answer because I am struggling coming up with something that frustrates me about Iowa State University. The thing that frustrates me the most is the six hour drive that I have to make to get to school. Other than this I really don't think anything else frustates me.

Heather

Coming from Florida, for me, it's the weather. The ice and snow and cold is not something that I am used to...along with all the clothes that come along with the weather!!

Nicholas

The most frustrating component of ISU is the parking situation. There is virtually no parking on the campus. There bus system is great but it wastes a lot of time everyday (min of 1 hour).

Jordin

The most frustrating thing about my school is the weather of out location. The winters here are very brutal and cold. It makes it difficult to get around in the winter to go to class or other necessary places.

Jesyka

The most frustrating thing about my school is the snow removal service. With Iowa weather, there needs to be someone who can clear sidewalks and streets after a huge storm, so students can walk to class safely every day. I have fallen before, and watched so many people fall I can't even count them. Walking to class should never be a dangerous experience.

Kaitlin

My particular dorm isn't air conditioned.

Erika

The most frustrating thing would have to be the size of the campus. It seems so big to me since iI came from a small town and it was somewhat hard to get used to. I don't like having to park my car a mile away from my dorm and walk thirty minutes to an 8 a.m. class. Other than that, I don't find anything frustrating about Iowa State University.

Tiffany

The most frustrating thing about Iowa State would be getting a hold and making an appointment with either a professor or an advisor. Since there are many studients in attendence, and teachers are so bussy they cannot always meet with you at desirable times.

Emily

The amount of conservatives

Katelyn

TOO MANY FOREIGN PROFESSORS! Class sizes are WAY too large as well. Accounting has 1000 students divided into 3 sections. I feel like I've learned nothing in thtat class!

Kalie

The most frustrating thing was adjusting to my roomate. We hated each other but luckily I was able to move with ease.

Anna

Extremely high cost of out-of-state tuition. I live in MN and Iowa doesn't have reciprocity.

Christopher

Can't think of anything.

Victoria

The rising prices of everything although every school seems to be raising their prices. For full-time students who want to focus on their school work and club involvement but need to work to pay for tuition and such, it makes focus waver a bit.

Rachel

There is the occasional person who does not feel they need to pull their weight for a group project. This can put more strain on the other group members to accomplish the project.

Adrienne

The only frustrating thing about Iowa State University is the cost for childcare. It's not really Iowa State, its everywhere, but ISU's childcare is actually a touch more expensive than other places.
