Most people would characterize Ithaca students as hippies and students that love to party hard. Ithaca is known as a very hands on technical school, where your more likely to spend hours in a Television Studio or at a Hospital then you are writing essays. Ithaca is also known for getting a lot of snow.

The girls are all beautiful, everyone likes Barack Obama or Ralph Nader, everyone at Ithaca either is a hippie or has an inner hippie and doesn't know it, and we all live in the ivory tower shadow that is Cornell.

Lots of people know Ithaca to be a really big place for pot, and it's known to be an extremely liberal campus. It's pretty much the place to be if you're a hippie.

Ithaca girls are all from Long Island and like to wear Ugg Boots and Mini-Skirts in the middle of winter. Another stereotype is that it snows in Ithaca all of the time and that anyone who goes here is crazy.

Everyone smokes weed Sports are popular There is no racial diversity There are a lot of gay/lesbians There are a lot of hippies There are a lot of stereotypes within each school too: Business School: mostly idiots- over-tanned girls with too much makeup and douche-bag guys who enjoy talking about how wasted they got over the weekend during class. Communications: basic nerdy radio, tv, writer types. they're good people for the most part, but kind of pompous at times. Health Science and Human Performance: over-achieving physical therapy majors or under-achieving meat-head physical education (gym teachers) majors. Seems like a lot of mediocre high school students get in here pretty easily, can't handle the workload, and then transfer to the Business School. Humanities and Sciences: pretty average well-rounded people here. kind of nerdy, but in an average sort of way. There are also some random geniuses. interdisciplinary....lol wut? Music School: gay hippies. this is basically true.

Many people believe that we're middle to upper-middle class preps all from Long Island or upstate New York. I've also heard people believe that everybody smokes weed constantly.

Ithaca is supposed to be this very liberal town. It is a very liberal town. There are a lot of hippies, which might appeal to some people ... I like Ithaca though. It's a cool little town. There are some fun places to go. And it's beautiful. You should go to the gorges definitely. Another Ithaca stereotype is that everyone is a stoner ... which is true, i mean, it might not be entirely true, but a lot of ... most of the people I've met will smoke pot. So if you're into that, it's the place to be. :)

Stuck up and rich

In Ithaca everyone is a hippie. At Ithaca College, supposedly, a lot of us smoke weed, and we are all rich.

Lacking racial diversity, but generally quirky. I've heard other schools called "J. Crew U" and I think that's exactly what IC is not. We've got the barefoot and dredded, the Parkies and the Whalenites- everyone does their own thing.

Ithaca's definitely seen as a bit of a hippie town. Lots of people into sustainable living and smoking pot, very much on the political left. Ithaca students are probably seen by Cornell (also in Ithaca) kids as dumb hippies, while Cortland (nearby state school) kids probably think we're rich, stuck up jerks. It's definitely a matter of perspective.

There are lots of gays and jews with no diversity whatsoever. They also smoke a lot of pot and play frisbee and hacky sack
