Kent State University at Kent Top Questions

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Annette

My college experience was delayed for over twenty years, but it has been well worth the wait! I attended two semesters of college right after high school, but I wasn't mature enough to appreciate the opportunity. The delay has given me time to decide "what I want to be when I grow up". I now realize how invaluable a college education is. Attending online classes has allowed me to update my computer skills while earning my degree. As I begin my on campus classes, I look forward to the opportunity to interact with a wider range of age groups than I encounter on a daily basis at my current job. Once I complete my Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies, I hope earn a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. Overall, the biggest benefit of attending college has been the effect on my teenage daughters. Watching me struggle to work and go to school has impressed upon them the importance of completing their education.

Colleen

When choosing to go to college the only thought I had was that a degree would help me get a good job later in life. But through the process of attending Kent State University I have learned so much more than I could have in simple academia. By going to a university that is far away from home I have learned independence and life skills such as budgeting, both time and money, and confronting people when issues have arisen instead of running away from the problem. I have also learned how to interact within an unfamiliar place with new people. I have developed leadership skills within these groups by being given opportunities to be in leadership roles in the resident halls, as a Resident Assistant, in organizations, as treasurer, and in classes through group projects. I would not trade the things I have learned at Kent State University for anything, and I am very grateful for opportunities that have been given to me while attending this school.

College has taught me more about life and how to handle difficult situations than I expected. Over the past year and a half, I have encountered different circumstances that have inevitably changed my decision processes, life choices and view of the world. College has enlightened me and broadened my horizons further than I ever thought possible. I am no longer close-minded to others and their ways of life. College is such an important experience that everyone must find out about for themselves. I can tell someone everything I have been through, the beautiful and the bad, yet they will never fully get to experience what I have been so lucky to.

From the beggining being in college was like a full-time job with no sleep. I had to learn how to use my time efficiently and be responsible for myself. Eventually through hard work and dedication these responsibilities became easier and I was able to take on new and better responsibilities. I have learned that my mindset can be my best friend or my worst enemy and that with the right mindset and a good plan that you can do just about anything. Going to college taught me how to live on my own and luckly I have learned from the majority of the mistakes I've made. College is a great place to make and learn from your mistakes and by doing so you will learn more about who you are as an individual which is the most important learning expereince to me. Attending college has taught me that people will continue to grow and change and that it is something that you cannot control. Even though the path ahead is going to be hard I am ready for it because I know I with hard work and dedicaton that eventually I will be where I want to be.

Sarah

From what I have learned in the last few months is that no matter what happens I will win over all odds and graduate!

Kimbrea

I gotten so many lessons and experiences out of college. I learned to listen and communicate with others better then before. It has been valuable to attend because I learned varieties of subjects. From chemistry to black history to psychology. This experience allowed me to learn how to be more responsible and independent. Even though I am studying chemistry I learn more majors because of all the information that fulfills me. I am blessed and very thankful for every thing that has came my way.

Claudia

It has been so valuable for me to attend college. First of all because I gained more knowledge in my field of study which is Administration of Justice. It has also been so valuable to me because I earned my Associates Degree. My college experience was great because I got to meet great professors who always helped me with any questions I had. Thanks to these professors I gained all the knowledge I now have and thanks to them I prepared myself to go on to a University and continue with my education. I have grown as a person and I am prepared to continue with my education and get a job in my field of study. All of this has been a great valuable experience for me.

Jacob

I have learned 2 major lessons (along with others) mostly dealing with team work and hard work. I work for the Fire District of Sun City West in Arizona and would not be here without my education. I have played sports most of my life but I didn't feel that I ever learned the true meaning of teamwork until I went to college. Teamwork is important in my life and profession because my co-workers and the community I serve depend on me and as a team player to save lives and go home to our family every night. I also learned from my college experiance that you really can be whatever you want though hard work and dedication. I had a dream of being a firefighter right out of high shcool and found it possible if I was willing to put in the hard work, and the importance of a the reputation I build from the work I do will help or hurt me in my future in my profession and in life.

Stephanie

Out of my college experiences to date, I have learned more about who I am as a person. I’ve learned that I stick to my goals. For example, I’m going to college to get a degree in wildlife conservation biology. I want to prolong the life of this planet. This is an enormous objective. Yet I have not faltered. College has been valuable to attend in that I have been working toward a goal and get closer to achieving that goal every day. College is helping to empower me as an individual, I would never be able to do what I want with my life without it.

Matthew

I got a solid foundational education in the science of geology, which will make it possible for me to both work and build upon that knowledge in the field.

Amnea

I have been able to learn about myself and see what else is outside of my small hometown. I also am able to learn things from my school of journalism that I wouldn't be able to get anywhere else and there are tons of opportunities .

Renee

I have thoroughly enjoyed my college education and wouldn't change a thing. It has been an invaluable experience, I feel I have found myself at Kent State. I'm 25 years old and in the past few years in college I have realized the paths I want to take in life and how I'm going to get there. My professors have been priceless in aiding and guiding me in the right direction, suggesting and supporting my academic and personal decisions related to my future schooling and career. I don't know where I would be right now without this life-altering college experience at Kent State. I feel education is of the utmost importance to any person anywhere in the world, hopefully one day universal education will be achievd for all, regardless of ethnicity, race, religion or sex. As Kofi Annan once quoted "Knowledge is Power. Information is Liberating. Education is at the premise of progress, in every society, in every family."

Kiarra

During my college experience I have learned how to be a more responsible person as well as learn how to better manage my time. When you start college, you dont start with too many responsibilities except to get good grades and to do your best. As you get older you realize that life goes on, whether your in college or not. You pick up more responsibilities and sometimes you have to learn how to suck it up and do those things that you don't want to because now your an adult. Even if it means picking up those extra hours at that job you hate so you can pay for that biology book. It has been a very valuable experience for me to attend college because it has allowed me to grow up and learn how to get rid of my bad habits such as procrastination. It has allowed me to pick up certain skills such as money management and problrm solving skills. Everything that I am learning just from attending college, I am more than positive that these skills and assets will be of use to me when I graduate from KSU in fall of 2012.

Dora

I have gotten a lot of of the whole college experience that I wish I knew in high school! In just one semester, I have become much more responsible with my studies. I graduated a year early, so I felt a little out of place at the beginning, but quickly adapted. I love how you get to meet a ton of new people and you get a lot of independence. With that also comes a lot of self discipline because it's extremely important for me to transfer to a university and continue my education. I'm trying to get the best grades I can because my parents are unable to pay for any of my education. College is amazing, and I really hope that I'm able to get some kind of aid or win some scholarships to be able to achieve my goal of becoming a crime scene investigator.

Rachel

I have gotten a great deal of education from my college experience thus far. I have learned so much from professors that have worked in the fashion industry. And as cliched as it sounds, an education is something that cannot be taken from me, no matter what, so that makes this something that is quite valuable to me.

Danielle

I have learned about many different subjects such as: French, Russian, Anthropology, Human Communication, and more. Furthermore college has been a practical lesson for me in becoming even more resourceful. I got away from home and it's forcing me to learn, and generally necessity is the best teacher.

joseph

I have been able to realize my weaknesses and been humbled to know that I am not the smartest person in the world. I have also realized that people are generally good and that there is a need for compassion in any career field. several professors have said if you leave this course leave with a piece of advice, be honest, strong, and unwavering in personal beliefes: after all at the end of the day you only have your integrity.

Kristina

The most important thing that I have gotten from my college experience is confidence. I came to Ohio from Montana and I didn't know anyone on campus or anyone in nearby towns I could call if there was an emergency. I grew up in a small town and had never moved. so I have never had to make completely new friends before. I never realized just how difficult and how easy making friends can be. If you are so nervous your scared to try it is difficult but if you overcome your nerves and put yourself out there you will meet some amazing people. I have also gained confidence through having to make decisions. I had to make a life changing decision about switching majors. I started in Theatre Studies but quickly realized I didn't want to make a career out of acting. However, I had no idea what I wanted to do. I finally made the educated decision to switch to communications. It was scary making such a big decision but I am confident that I did what is best for me. Living on my own has developed my confidence more than I ever imagined.

Amy

I have gotten out of my college experience, so far, some good friends. I have met a ton of great and interesting people. I have had some great teachers that I have made great bonds with. I have also had some very interesting classes. Academically I have done well and I have learned a lot that will help me with my future goals. This campus is good to attend because campus is very relaxing during those stressful times. If you enjoy the outdoors this campus is perfect. Most of the teachers care about your success in their classes. There will always be that one teacher that is not as willing to help no matter where you go to school. I do not feel like I am in danger while on campus. Overall campus life is very fun and it is a great school to attend.

Victoria

My college experience has been the most crucial step in my life thus far. Attending a university away from home has taught me valuable lessons such as money management and independence. Not to mention, I have gained confidence and self-reliability as a result of being on my own. Kent State's interior design program provides great opportunies for all of its students. For example, the classrooms are set in studios where students are able to work in an environment that's similar to the workplace. I'm convinced that I will be fully prepared for the real world once I graduate.

Sydney

The most valuable thing I've gotten out of attending Kent State University is definitely the broadened horizons it's given me. Before entereing, I really had no idea what I wanted to do with myself during or after college. Now, through course work and lab experience, I hope to pursue a PhD in Behavioral Neuroscience after completion of my undergrad work. I've also broadened my personal interests. Having started rock climbing frequently at our school's Adventure Center my freshman year, I met some great peole who got me into other adventure sports as well, such as backpacking and biking. This past fall I was lucky enough to participate in an Adventure Race through Kent and the surrounding towns with some of the people I met at the Adventure Center. Total, we ran, kayaked and mountain biked over 20 miles, to end with archery and rock climbing. Before Kent State, if I had been told I would do that, I wouldn't have believed it. I really believe this school has brought out the best in me, which I think is the most anyone could as of their school.

Jeannette

I've gotten a lot out of my college experience. One of the most important things that I have learned is the importance of networking and knowing people. It is vital to you career as well as any academic experiences. I have also learned that you must always give your all no matter what the situation is because you never know who is watching. College is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in which you prepare yourself for four years. It is a season of learning and growth. A season like no other and I have learned that one must take full advantage of it because it will never come by again.

Kristi

I have received friends for life and wonderful chances to explore my major. I am an eletronic media management major which is similar to broadcast. Our school has their own TV and radio channels and studios. I am applying to volunteer at the TV channel next semester. Many of our majors require an internship. It's nice to know Kent will not let you slip by without requiring a resume builder. As far as my social life, I met the majority of my close friends through a program called Excel. This was for about 60 of the undecided freshmen entering Kent. Through this program, I attended class, meetings, and lived with this group of people. Also, it helped me pick out a major. Excel had the different colleges come in and explain what would be required, expected, extra costs, etc. In fact, the whole reason why I picked Kent was because of Excel. I orginally planned to transfer after my first year. After a semester, I was in love with the campus, the people and the electronic media management major.

Attending San Jacinto College has given me a broader view of the oppertunities that are available to me if I successfully complete their requirements. With the knowledge and experience I have gained from the instructors at San Jac I feel signifacntly empowered to complete difficult tasks in my work environment as well as in my everyday life. I am greatful for the flexibilty of the school and its courses because they have truly made it easier for me to attend and attempt to complete my degree in a hybrid course scenario (50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} in class, 50{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} online). As a full time employee, mother and fulltime student I have found that I do better with these type of classes so it has been greatly beneficial for my situation. I can't wait to finish my degree so that I am able to gain my title and promotion at work as well as being able to provide my family with a brighter future that without my education they would not have. By completing my A.A.S I feel encouraged to continue on to my Bachelor's degree and hopefully make a diffence in many of the perils that our country faces everyday.

Linda

I have recived a lot out of my college experience. I have learned to manage my time, meaning learning how to schedule when to study, relax, and spend time with my daughter. I learned that everyone is different, but we all are here for one reason, to succeed. I learned that life is hard, and its up to you to make it mangeable. Its been valuable to me because it helped me become a better mother and student. Its valuable because I will not be able to suceed in life without it.

Mathew

Through my college experience I have grown to view certain situationsfrom others' perspectives, not just my own. I am able to solve problems better on my own, not always relying on someone else to assist me. I enjoy not having to always ask my boss how to do something or for help so I feel this is a helpful trait. I also feel that I have became more responsible since I have returned to school in the fact that I get all my assignments done on time and have passed with exceptional grades. Returning to school has been valuable to me in the fact that I am currently working nights while I finish school and paying for my house. I don't want to be working nights for the rest of my life so I feel that, finishing school gives me a way out of working nights. I am also in the process of planning my wedding, so my time management with school is very key. I have to manage my time in a way to complete my homework, do my planning, as well as put in enough hours at my job to make ends meet.

Michael

I have gotten more out of my college experience than I have ever gotten out of life "All together." Believe or not, I didn't know how to tie a tie before I got to college. Believe it or not I never got to experience love from the oppossite sex until I got to college (complete romance and intellectual pleasure.) Believe it or not I didn't believe I was as smart as I was before I got to college. Out of my four semesters of being in college, too of those semester I've been on the deans list and the others maintained a 2.9 or higher. I wish I've could've done better but, In my thinking considering the odds with me transferring I believe I'll do better next semester. Teachers, students and family have shown me nothing but, love since I been in school. My younger generation looks up to me like they never have before and I'm enjoying what I'm learning. Im more organized spiritually, physically, mentally and can now look at life from a stand point where I'm above, in control and the only person stopping me is me.

Sierra

My classes are the most important thing, but I believe that you cannot learn everything in the class room . A person has to be active in organizations to help bulid them as a person to give them tips and networking connections. So far during my college experience I have became apart of many organizations on campus. The organizations I am involved in are Delta Zeta Sorority, Kent State Woman's Chorus, PRSSA and a Disney College Program Representative. I think that these experiences have helped with not only my classroom sucess but they have helped me become a better pesron. I believe that the value to attend college is so important in a person's life. I think that college shaped a person into the person they will become!

Elle

Attending college has changed my life completely. I have learned more about myself, identified a career that will allow me survive and thrive in our economy, and become a role model for my daughter. At the age of 44, my college connected me with resources to diagnose my learning disability. I have learned about the support and special ways I need to study to be successful at school, in my profession, and in life. I have discovered a new career that builds on my skills, expertise, and passion that will also help me support my family. I used to work as a photographer and was laid off. What I loved about photography was the technical side of it. I also love to help people. When I am finished with my degree, I will be an MRI technician. I will have combined things about myself that I love with a growing professional field that is in demand.I recently adopted a daughter and she is learning from me that it is never too late to find your purpose. The value going to college has given me in this respect is priceless.

Beatrice

I have learned a lot from attending college that I will take with me as my life continues. My college experience has been very successful, staying involved as well as working hard to maintain a high grade point average. One thing that I have learned the most about from college is time management, this is a skill that is needed in everyday life and is very important during school work as well. Another skill that I have learned from my college experience would be to have great people skills, just get to know people be welcoming and you never know what interesting and even life-long friends you might meet.

Trinka

I have learned quite a bit in the few months I have been in school. I have learned the actual subjects, and how to apply them to daily living. My Sociology class has shown me how to asses and think further into a situation, so when my children are acting up I truly think and question why they are, and how to solve it. My Microcomputers class has shown me how to use a home budget on Access and Excel. My Medical Terminology class really prepared me for my upcoming nursing classes. I am thankful I am able to attend school. It has been valuable to attend because all of the classes and instructors have different tips and lifestyle choices to teach me, through them and the actual subjects I feel like I have lived those choices and grown from them. Thank you for your time!

Kiera

Kent State University was my first choice because it was close to home. I have always felt comfortable at KSU. As a freshman, I learned how to be confident in my abilities and be proud of what I can do. I was never someone who liked to participate in large classes, but now I enjoy it. My professors have encouraged me to embrace what I know and contribute to the larger discussions. The ability to speak my opinion in front of a large group of people has been beneficial to other aspects of my life. I am now more willing to try things that I may not be 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} sure about. For example, I volunteer in a Psychology lab on campus working with lab rats. At first, I was very apprehensive about it, but one of my professors urged me to take advantage of the opportunity and learn as much from it as I can. I am thankful for the qualities I have acquired at Kent State University. I will be forever grateful.

Eva

I have gotten so much out of my college experience. Friends, knowledge, and responsibility. The Interior design program at Kent is difficult, but very good. I have learned so much, and the way I look at things have been changed forever. Dorm life has made me a much more social person and I reccomend it for everyone. I love Kent State.

Christina

I have learned through my college experience that it pays off to stay focused and to not let the freedom of the college life take you over. In my freshman year, I was so enthralled with the idea of having all of this freedom to choose my classes and not get in trouble for having my cell phone out that I got carried away and my grades suffered. I didn't keep my focus where it should have been and now I have to work twice as hard to bring my grades back up to get a better a GPA. Stay focused on your classes and your major because you have plenty of time to talk to your friends and play on your phones and laptops after class is over.

Heather

I have had a hard time decifering between what is purely just an interest to me and what is something that I can do as a career. It has taken me a long time but now I've finally figured it out and I'm in the finish line to graduating. I've experimented in a few different areas and I think Kent is a great school for that because they do offer so many different majors. I value everything that I've learned from attending Kent.

Justina

What I have gotten out of my college experience is the realization that my success or failure falls squarely on my own shoulders. If I want something, it is up to me to make it happen. My college experience has had a few bumps and breaks in the road and I have learned many things along the way; especially that I am capable of achieving the goals I set forth, and it is okay to make mistakes along the way. I know I have made plenty of mistakes on this journey, and will probably make a few more, but I have learned that those mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow, and not to take them for granted. It has been valuable to attend college because it is here that I have discovered important things about myself, and how to apply the skills and tools I have gained in the classroom to my everyday life at work and home. I think the most valuable thing about attending college will be the diploma I earn at the end and the world of possibilities that diploma will unveil for me.

Attending college and leaving home can be one of the scariest things a young person has to do in their life. With the uncertainty of what lies ahead in life, attending college can also be very stressful. Although things may somtimes start out scary, attending college at Kent State University has been one of the greatest experiences of my life. Attending college has taught me to be self relient, independent, and has made me become a mature young adult. It has also taught me to be my own person, and to be more accepting of the differences of those who surround me. Attending college has also made me realize what is most important to me in life, such as my family and my future, and has helped me create a strong set morals and values to live by. I have met so many wonderful people while attending college, and certainly some life long friends. Every day I become a more well rounded individual, and the person that I always hoped I would be some day. My experience in college is one that I will never forget, and an experience that has made me into the good person I am today.

Kim

I have gotten from my time thus faar at Kent State, that I truley did pick the correct major. Kent makes you take classes that cover all aspects of your major, not just your specific concentration. I have also learned from Kent that I am in charge of my own future. The choices I make are what will help me to succed in the future and in everything that I do. It hasdd been so valuable to attend Kent because I now know that I can, and will, do anything that I have set my mind to. With Kent state's help they just make things easier for me!

Kelley

While attending Kent State University, I have gotten much more than grades from my experience. In my experience, I have learned the most about myself and the person that I can one day grow into. At first, I attended Kent State with the intent to receive a four year Bachelor's degree so I could just get out into the "real world". As I continued into my degree program though, I realized that college is more than just a transition period. In my two years at Kent, I have seen the true value of my college experience. This value is present in the new friends I have made, the supportive faculty that have guided me, and the lesson plans that have pushed my creative boundaries. Without these experiences, I don't think I would be the person I am today or see the possibilities of my future. There is so much more I would like to share about my time attending Kent State University. With only two hundred words or less though, it is quite hard to summarize such an experience.

Elizabeth

A higher income, better standard of living, and technological literacy are all good answers to what I have gotten out of my college experience. However, I feel that I have acheived so much more than just that. I have gotten out of my experience a sense of accomplishment that I haven't felt from anything else that I have done and the opportunity to be around so many different people with such diverse and similar interests at the same time. I have made life long friends with some people that I that I never would have met if I didn't attend to college. It has taught me the value of managing my time effectively and how to push myself to succeed. It taught me not to give up simply because I didn't know the answer, but rather to think outside the box. To consider answers that I never would have thought of before. It has broadened my horizons in so many ways and the best part about it is, my college experience is not over yet.

Randi

The biggest lesson I learned from college is to be real. When you are in the midst of a diverse group of people, you can indeed find people who are like you. They maybe from another country, you may not even understand what they are saying. But if you listen carefully, there's so much more out there. I don't know where that somewhere is, but the feeling that you have experienced something more than just drugs, or sex, alcohol, is the feeling you get when you are sharing the same room as a person from the other side of the world. It's about feeling like you belong, not in a community or a country, it's the feeling that you belong right here, in the world.

Disha

My college experience has been very good. the college started from hard working and i knew since begining that i had to work very hard to fulfill my goals and achieve my goal. One of the other experience i had is that in life we meet alot of different kinds of people, so we have to be ready to meet different types of people.

Brittany

I am a very motivated person when it comes to school and life. I am attending Kent State University with a major in fashion design. Kent State has one of leading fashion programs and I know I can excel here. I have made many challenging projects and I am constantly learning new techniques. My school has a large selection of interesting classes . I am fast learner and a hardworking person. I know my goals and I know what I have to do to get there. Nothing stands in my way. My attitude sets me apart from most applicants. I am firm in what I believe and will not take no for an answer. If something is important to me I will fight to the very end. I have a passion for creating and sewing clothes; a passion that most people don’t know in a lifetime. I am very talented in this area and I know that I will succeed. My college makes me believe in the future. The teachers, the students, and the overall expirance has been amazing. I am extremely lucky to have made it in to this wonderful school. Now I just need help paying for school.

Going to college and being on my own for the first time in my life has been as much of a learning experience as it has a joyous experience. When I first left for school, I was very excited to be on my own and have the independence that I longed for all through high school. I quickly learned, however, that this adjustment was going to be more difficult than I expected. All throughout my life I had my parents under the same roof as me, guiding me in the right direction and keeping me in line. The first few months of college I was a little lost without them, and with home being some 3 hours away I couldn't just see them on a regular basis. I quickly adapted and learned how to be more independent and to take care of myself, which is the most valuable thingabout attending college. Someday we all will have to go out on our own and have to depend on ourselves, and learning to do this as an 18 year-old college freshman has been and will continue to be extremely beneficial.

Patrick

While many students believe that the main emphasis of college is what they can get out of it, I believe that the greatest opportunity for students to explore is what they can give back. In each and every course I have taken thus far I have made it my purpose to find some way to help other students with their studies and understanding of the topic as well as to help the professor engage the class in interesting dicsussions. I strive to do my own personal best in each class, but if I can help bring others along with me I find much more joy in the learning experience.

Michael

My experience has been wounderful, I never thought in a million years that school would be a fun place to attend daily. Since I'm the first male in my family to attend college, I have tryed to involve myself in any and every aspect of Kent State so my little brother coming behind me will have options. I'm the president of College Summit and my social network is one of the highest known. I have been introduced to so many different careers that i have finally chosen my path which is Communication Studies. This university gives you all the tools to be successful after graduation, and all the correct information to excel in that study. My life would not be as promising if I had never attended Kent State. I have networked with so many people here that I have my own radio show on KSU's college network, I host all KSU's Basketball games, and recently I've been chosen to be an intern for Universal Music Group in Santa Monica, CA. Without Kent State, I don't know where I would be today. I love my university.

Carrie

College is meant to prepare for the world's workforce abroad. Whether it be Engineering, the Medical field, Journalism or even the next great NFL superstar. Altough those things are all true. I get so much more from it. College at Kent State University is not just helping prepare me for a great career, but also a great friend, mentor, daughter and overall an adult for the rest of my life. Honestly, I never liked school. I never like the early mornings, the unnecessary homework, all the way up until now. Now I see that, like my mother always says: " There's a reason for the season!". All the things I hated coming up, I understand that it was preparing me for now and college now is preparing me to help build a better tomorrow. Being a Christian, I believe in a better tomorrow, and although God holds it, He gives us the choice to spend it as we please. College is valuable because it's my second chance at becoming the great person I am destine to be. And after all of the childishness of my yesterdays, I can't imaging wasting another tomorrow. Time is of the essence.

Elizabeth

When i first came to college I wanted to study psychology, but was not sure what I wanted to do with the major. In my first year at Kent State University I was able to experience a new program at Kent called Pay It Forward. The class was a Social Problems class and it really helped jump start an idea for a career path. We worked with an organization Townhall II, and held a clothing drive to help crime victims. After working with this organizaiton I realized it was really interesting and I could definatly keep volunteering or even work there. Then my second year at Kent State I took a Intro to Justice Studies class and it was definatly something I was interested in. My teacher and counselor helped me to decide to double major in Psychology and Criminal Justice. I'm not 100{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} set on a exact career but both psychology and justice studies are my intereset. It was amazing that within the first two years at Kent State I have already gotton so much out of my college experience. I value these two classes in college so very much because they steered me into my career path.

I have gotten many things out of my college experience, at least so far. Having a tough major, which is Interior Design, has helped me tremedously with learning to balance my time wisely and has helped teach me discipline when it comes time to work on my projects. Dilligence, drive and passion, I feel, are the three main things that I have gotten, academically, out of my college experience at Kent State University. I knew I was passionate about what I wanted to do for the rest of my life before I came to college, but I never knew how much I really did want to be in the profression of design until I started studio, which then in return, taught me the dilligence and drive to get my work done. On another note, joining the greek community has helped me branch out and become a part of many other organizations on campus. I never branched out in high school and I'm glad I did in college. It's been valuable to attened KSU because being here has taught me how to survive on my own, and to care and be more passionate about my work.

What I have gotten out of Kent State is that the path always changes. Life is always changing its directions whether or not you're ready. Kent has taught me to go with the flow, ride the current, make the best out of what life hands you. Whether it's as complicated as not being in the right major and having to search for a new one or if it is as simple as picking out classes, be ready because whether it's simple or complicated anything can happen. If it is good, or it's ugly go with it, you might learn something new. This has been valuable to me because I dont think a college should just be there to teach you academics, I believe that they should teach you about life, ideals, how to be yourself, or help you find who you are. This why I find Kent to be an extremely rewarding place to be.
