I love McNeese State University. I have been there for a tour before, and it was absolutely amazing. It was everything I could have imagines and more. The community, administration, and student body are so helpful and encouraging. McNeese State University seems to be the place to be. I would love to be there, as I have tons of friends who attend the school. The games would be one of my favorite parts. I love all athletic activities, especially cheer. Friday night football is something I could definitely get used to!

Mcneese is not the most exciting school to attend. The on-campus housing is priced astronomically high, the facilities are pathetic, and you’re always calling someone from maintenance to fix reoccurring issues. Most of the buildings are a far cry from updated and you are lucky if the air conditioning is working that day. In addition, the local area leaves you wanting more. There is nothing to do unless you travel the three hours to Houston, or the two and a half to Baton Rouge. My honest opinion is if you do not gamble or drink, you are “out of luck”. I have several friends that are international students and they all told me the same thing “Google lied”. The campus is gloried online but looks “run down” in person. Now our academics are outstanding, especially the nursing program. It is a smaller university, so you are treated as a person, not a number. I have several friends in engineering that all had jobs within 2 weeks of graduation, some even before. It is the same with the nursing department. Overall, Mcneese is not where you’re meant to be unless you want to stay local, or you are pursing a RN or engineering degree.

Emily - 01/30/2022

McNeese is a good school, in general. Campus housing is pretty questionable, especially the cheaper dorms. If you’re someone without a car, all necessities are within walking distance. Academics are quality and most professors are easily accessible. The student population is wonderful, even if you’re someone who’s shy or socially awkward, you’ll find that McNeese students are helpful and easy to talk to. I’m glad I go here.

McNeese State University FAQS

  1. What is the Acceptance Rate at McNeese State University?

The fall 2020 acceptance rate for McNeese State University is 63%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.

  2. What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

If I could have the ability to go back in time as a high school senior, there will be so many advices that I would give myself to make many adjustments to prepare for the responsibilities that is ahead of me in college. Knowing now that I'm taking higher level math such as Calculus in college, going back in time I would tell myself to work hard earlier diving into the math books and online tutorials to progress my knowledge ahead of time. If I were to prepare the math ahead of time, that would make my life easier today. Another thing I would tell myself is to follow your dreams. Back when I was a senior in high school I did not know what major I want to go for in college. Now that I know what major to go for today, if I could go back in time and tell myself Computer Science by now I would save more money by not switching majors and as well today I would be far ahead in Computer Science to apply my knowledge to help myself to start my own computer software company at an early age.
