What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Lindsay

I am the first person in my entire family to attend a 4 year college. I want to prove to all of them that I can do it and so can they. My family isnt wealthy therefore I need to apply for many scholarships. If I received this scholarship it would make my life a lot easier. What I have gotten from college so far is that it is a great experience to live on your own and make your own desicions and that your parents arent always going to be there to tell you to do your work you have to take responsibilty in everything that you do. Attending college has been valuable to me because I will be the first person in my family to walk across that stage and get that diploma. Until that day comes I will stay focused in my school work and work hard to get there.

Even though I'm starting college at a later age than most people do I still feel like I'm learning more about Humanities. While these classes may not pertain to my major specifically I'm still glad to take them for the insight they provide and feel others should take more of these classes as well. College has a way of broadening one's horizon's and helping them be more open to new ideas and I appreciate that fact.

As a Running Start student, my college experience has perhaps been different than most. This opportunity for a more scholastically prestigious high school education has better prepared me for attending a four year university, and has also opened up to me a whole new realm of possibilities for a future career. With my tuition wholly paid for by the Running Start program, I have been able to complete my high school graduation requirements while also exploring the many fields of study available to me. This has enabled me to narrow down my list of potential careers, thus allowing me to head to a four year university with specific academic goals. Another reason that my college experience has differed from others’, is because I was home-schooled my entire life until I began attending Olympic College. Though I have participated in various church and community activities throughout my life, going to Olympic College has thrust me into social situations that I have not previously experienced. Most other people my age have had social interactions similar to this during elementary, junior high, and high school, but for me, this is a first. Hence, my college experience has been scholastically and socially educational.

I have become less shy since I've started college. I have also found college is easier and harder than high school in several ways. For example it's easier because you don't get in trouble if you skip class and not that you should do it, but some days you just feel like sleeping in. I found high school really easy and I got good grades but in college my grades aren't that great. I also heard somewhere that if high school was hard that college would be easier and that seems to be the case with my cousin so maybe the reverse that if you did good in high school college will be hard is true also.

I define life as finding the determination to overcome obstacles that are in your path to success in the future. I feel like coming to college was the best decision I’ve made in my 21 years of life. Not only have I started to learn more about myself, I’ve started to learn more about human beings in general. Before coming to school here I was not exposed to youth in my area as much as I should have been. Playing college football at my school puts me in a spotlight, and I am magnified by children of the area. This is where my love for helping kids came into my heart. In my opinion one of the greatest things a person can do in their lifetime is help someone else, Pass knowledge and hopefully they will do the same for someone they know. Through college I have found my calling, which is helping children do just that, overcome obstacles in their paths to success. My vision is to make it easy for them to pass life's tests in the future. This is why it was important for me to attend college, to find my calling.

My experiences have given just only a brief start toward my professional career. I have gotten knowledge to understand the views from other ethnicities. The diversity class is not the only thing I am going to take away. The computer classes I have taken will give me a start to grasp what it will be like to understand the professional concepts of my future colleagues. As of now I still have a long road ahead I am going to teach myself to be consistent through my classes and the rest of my academic career.

I have grown so much since I have attended SCSU. It has given me the ability to show how I can be self sufficient, how work ethic is important in not only your time as a student but also in volunteerism and personal commitment to others. I am a small town girl who loves being in the country so I have really felt that this time at SCSU has allowed me to realize how wonderful my life is and how a large community can give the same county feel, you just need to search for it. SCSU is a wonderful college, with many wonderful people to help you gain experience and strength through the college classroom experience. All my classes have given me a new experience and new insight on my educational goal. I look forward with anticipation to my next year at SCSU and to the new experiences it will bring and the new friends I will meet. I look forward to gaining more confidence and independance as I work towards my degree.

Anastasia

I have attained valuable knowledge out of my college experience so far. I recently began college for Criminal Justice and I absolutely love it. There are abundandt elements that go a long with Criminal Justice so there are always new and exciting things to learn. It has been valuable to attend college because it is providing steps to achieve my dream vocation and location after college graduation. Attending college will provide me of security in a career that I absolutely love and in financial security as well.

Stephanie

My college experience has taught me so much, not only about the world around me, but about myself as well. I have been able to expand my horizons by meeting a diverse group of people. I have also been able to transition from being dependent on my family to being independent. Through college, I have continued my experience with volunteering and gained a sense of community with Saint Cloud. At SCSU I have excelled academically and have taken on numerous responsibilities. College has been a valued experience to me because I have been able to continue doing the things I love, such as volunteering, as well as experience new things in an environment that encourages success in every aspect of my life.

Although my college experience is not over, I have learned a lot. I have learned how to live with roommates, how to keep myself on task and finish my work in a timely manner, how to prioritize, how to make friends with people I normally wouldn't, how to speak in front of large groups, and how to be who I am, among many other things. I am glad I chose SCSU, because it is the perfect school for me. I have learned so many things, become friends with professors, found new job opportunities, and figured out what I want out of life. I never thought I would feel so completely comfortable in a new place, but I have never felt left out at SCSU. Attending SCSU is very valuable to me and my future, because I know that I will learn all that I need to know for my profession and I have a network of faculty that I can contact if I ever need anything. SCSU is definitely the right place for me.

In highschool, I never really tried as hard as I should have. By coming to college I seriously think a light switch flipped on, I have done 360 degree turn, and have fallen in love with studying and doing good on exams and homework, I have learned so much just by going to school, and really found my self, my first year I ended up on the deans list, with a GPA of 3.74, I have now been able to have the feeling of success, and truly being proud of my self. I have also recieved the feeling of passion, I found my career as a Speech Language Pathologist, and it is so rewarding and such an amazing field, and I can not wait to learn even more. Going to school has made me who I am and I actually am now a community advisor at the dorms on campus, and helping others with there future and the resources of the campus has really helped me change my life and been a valuable step that has occured in my life, I wouldn't get to recieve this experience if it wasn't for my college.

The staff and students at Orange Coast College (OCC) are incredible and having the opportunity to mature and develop my leadership skills at OCC has been such a blessing! The programs at OCC allowed me to grow as an actor, author and playwright and experience acting, directing and producing live-theater performances. Being a part of the fund rasing for theater repertory and having an opportunity to volunteer my services to keep the arts alive has been a fulfilling pursuit for me. My passion for theater and my love of the arts have blossomed during my college experience. Attending a community college prior to transferring to a 4-year university allowed me the opportunity to develop strong study skills as a student and gain valuable experience in my major. The knowledge and experience gained at OCC have prepared a strong foundation for my future educational pursuits at the university level . My college experience has further developed my self-confidence and determination as a leader in my academic major and contributed to my future success in my academic and career pursuits.

During my college experiance I've learned a lot! I've learned how to manage my time between work and play. During high school I've gotten into the habit that doing my homework last minute was okay, not only did I get into that habit but I also got into the habit of craming right before a test, weather if it was the night before or the hour before. In college I learned with in the first week that I could no longer do that! Studying an hour before had to stop or else I was definately going to fail all my test. I also found out that doing my homework before hand would give me more time to study and understand the test material. In the end, I now know that studying throughout the semester and doing homework before hand would end in a much better outcome than cramming and doing last minute homework.

During my college experience I have faced dedication, disgust, and accomplishment. My description of college life is a little more unique than others. As I have stated above I faced extreme dedication with the Army ROTC department. It truly does take a lot of commitment and dedication to never miss a single 5:30am (weekday) Physical Training session or (weekend) leadership lab especially when I have to give up most of my few well earned comforts. Not to mention from nearly day one I was disgusted with my roommate. He was everything one would wish they didn’t get; he was messy, sloppy, a negative influence and a liar. He was the kind that would ruin the college experience for anyone who doesn’t share his values. Luckily I was able to move to a different room. Finally by the end of the semester I had achieved a first ever semester GPA of 3.8 as well as acceptance into the Army ROTC Department. Why is it valuable to attend? I will not give up on my dreams. The two most important to me is to become a high school teacher as well as an Army officer. Weird couple right…

I have obtained the courage to talk more to people and to understand them more through my college experience. I have met many different types of people with diverse skills and dreams waiting to be realized, and they have allowed me to understand how the "real world" really works. I had lab partners of notably different age groups give me their perspectives on what they thought of the immediate class and what their opinions were of their lives. I listened to why they were attending college and what goals they strove toward, and it made me realize how important all of it really was. Everyone there understood that the more education they receive, the better chances they had at earning more money and in the end better chances of living happier lives. Whether it is to support their families or to make something of themselves, in college, people are attending because they have their reasons to attend. I really learned something about perspective in college, and I know now that it's extremely valuable to attend.

Attending community college has granted me the basics for attending a university and succeeding in everyday life. I have learned a lot through community college and have been able to help and encourage others in everyday life. For example, I learned how to make and build up a resume. This basic skill not only helped me get a job at a local high school as a tutor, but it helped a few of my friends get jobs too. College has taught me further responsibility to becoming an adult. The responsibility I learned to balance at a community college encourage me to grow and balance all aspects of my life. College education will always be valuable to me because nobody can remove the knowledge I have obtained, and the ways it has inspired me to grow in life.

Niko

I have gotten so much out of my college experience over the last year and a half at Saint Cloud State University. It is everything I imagined and more, I truly feel like I'm living out the best part of my life. Yes, It has been a lot of fun but it also has taken a lot hard work balancing my studies, my work study, another very part-time job, and volunteer community service. Honestly though, its great, I get to wake up everyday and just smile knowing that its another day of just taking everything in. I love being able to get really into my classes, gaining discipline through my work study and volunteer work, and being able to grow into the individual that I hope to be. When I look back, its crazy to think about how much I have learned and grown over the past year and a half, that I have been slowly moving towards taking control of my future. Overall, College has taught me to grow, have a good work ethic, persevere, savor the little things, and just enjoy every day. I just cant wait to see where it takes me next. Thank you.

Alexandra

I have gotten so many things out of my college experience. Things such as meeting a ton of new people, its fascinating hearing there story and seeing the how different things are from different cities. I also played intramural soccer and volley ball, which was awesome because I love soccer but I just didn't want to invest the time into playing for the school and traveling. Another experince I have gotten out college is business clubs, learning about career options and hearing about people talk about their professions to get somewhat of an idea of what it's like.

Carmen

Having never being separated from my family for more than a few weeks, college has allowed me to take control of my own life and make choices on my own. Being forced to live with a complete stranger has helped me deal with problems that I had never had to face before. From the time spent at college I have gained so much from my experiences and it has benefitted me for the career ahead of me. At college, I have earned my spot on the Community Council, competed as an athlete on the track and field team, a member in the Honors Program, and I have attended many school-sponsored events. By being active in these events and activities I have come to realize what it is that I want to accomplish in life. It is clear now that upon completing college and receiving my degree, I will become a Physical Education Teacher and push my students to reach their fullest potential so they too can have endless opportunities in life. Not only have I acquired valuable knowledge from my classes, but I have also gained real life experiences that have made me into the person I am today.

Nikole

I have learned many new and exciting things through my 2 year community college experience. I learned that it is completely different stepping outside of your little home town where you knew everyone and everyone new you. In my hometown I was a sports goddess who started on every sports team, had many friends, and was loved by many teachers who knew I could succeed. My first time stepping onto the basketball court at FLCC I realized I was not the best player anymore, no one knew who I was, and I would have to earn my position all over again. This was the same in classes, building relationships with teachers, and making all new friends. This is so valuable to me because this is what I will have to do all over again when trying to land a job out in the "real world". Other values that I got where learning time management. I worked two jobs throughout my two first years of community college, played on the women’s basketball team, and made the deans list in grades. I learned many valuable lessons through college experience but I also learned how fun it can be too!

Attending college has really opened my eyes. Suddenly, I became interested in subjects that I've never thought I would lay eyes on. I didn't know what I was in for when I began college. I had declared my major as "business" because I participated in the Academy of Finance in highschool. However, after taking classes ranging from anthropology to abnormal psychology, I realized that my interest was not in the business world, but in the sciences. The class that finally made me decide what I want to do was Microbiology. This class taught me about the microorganisms surrounding us, yet they tend to be ignored because we cannot see them. However, these organisms play such a large role in the sciences. From helping to ease the cost in amplyfing DNA to allowing us to study the effects of antibiotics, these microscopic organsism have influenced me more than I would ever know. Attending college has allowed me to explore my interests and find my true calling. I plan on finishing my higher education by studying the one thing I am truely interested in, something I would not have found if I had not attended college in the first place.

My college experience has been the reason I will be successful in my future. The memories I have created are pungent and warm, and I will always remember them fondly. St. Cloud has been the turning point in my adulthood where I am sure to always have a home. I have learned the basic concepts in my career field, as well as the details necessary to be successful. Any future employer will know that I am an asset to their team, and I owe it all to my education at St. Cloud State University.

Stephanie

Last week I was sitting in my living room filling out scholarship applications. The questions were all very generic, yet I kept getting stuck on one specific question. The simple, reoccurring request for my year in college had me stumped. My gut instincts were that I was obviously a freshman, but then I remembered the number of credits I’d earned while in high school classified me as a sophomore. I definitely didn’t feel like a sophomore and didn’t even feel like a true college freshman. For most freshmen, the first semester in college is a life changing period. Because I still live at home, my changes are isolated to different classes and schedules. So what am I? Where am I headed? Who do I want to be? The answers to these questions, as well as realizing how many questions are still unanswered are the biggest things I’ve gotten from college. The new classes and time on campus throughout the semester, taught me so much about myself, my goals, and how much I still have to discover. Now I can truly say that despite the number of credits on my record, I’m a blooming college freshman.

Kathryn

I have made life-long friends. I have made such great concections with future employers. I have become involved with so many campus activities.

I have gotten a new life from my college experience! I was not a very good high school student and my motivation to learn was often lost due to having a learning disability and being made fun of. After barely completing high school in 1997, I never dreamed I would return to any kind of academic institution. It’s amazing where life takes you though! After countless jobs and traveling the country, I was finally ready to return to school and I was on a mission. I decided that I would like to foster/adopt children and home school them! I always knew my place in the world was to help kids, but now I have a focus, a plan. I eased into Virginia Western Community College in the fall of 2006, with much anxiety and apprehension. But, I knew what I wanted and school was the path I had to take to get there. Much to my surprise I have earned a 4.0 for five semesters straight! I discovered I was smart! What a confidence booster. Now, I am transferring to Hollins University this spring and can’t wait to discover more things about the world and myself.

For a moment and for quite some time, there was a hesitation in my heart on whether or not I should really be sleeping in this dorm room. I felt as though I wasn't meant for such a place; home is where I rather be. This is no place to be spending such a precious time of my life. My youth. A couple of weeks in, a couple of lonely night walks to the river dock, Made me question more often than the week that has pasted. Finally one day, I don't really know how it came to be. Everything just clicked and certain events made me realize this is exactly where I was meant to be. I have gotten so many great things out from college. For one, knowing that College will help me in the future if life ever gets too extreme. Another is great friends. This life is exactly meant for my youth. I value these very intensely because these are the very things that makes me who I am. The college expericene is what I was wanting and what I do need. It is valuable to who I am.

Breanna

I have gotten a lot out of attending St Cloud State University. I have not only learned a lot but I have also been able to apply my knowledge into everyday life. I feel this is a very essential aspect I have taken from my educational experience. WIth a special education major I have been able to apply my knowledge of curriculum to my family life. I have lerned patience, compassion and trust through my educaional experience. This has been valuable to me becuase I have become a better person since attending St Cloud State University.

MacKenzie

My experience at SCSU has been a fufilling one, I have met valuable people and learned information to make me a more well rounded person. I am very excited to continue my education so I can become a neurologist later in life. It is valuable in my opinion to learn as much as possible, it is important I gain a wealth of intelligence to help as many people as possible. The responisbility I have gained for myself at SCSU has benefited me in every aspect of my life. I have already learned so much information and I am excited to learn more. I feel a hunger for knowledge, I constantly want to learn more. The environment at SCSU is very comfortable and inviting to all it's students. It is important that every student feels safe, happy, and respected. SCSU has made it their top priority to have a comfortable learning environment for all students, it is important and they have done good work at keeping it up. I enjoy every day at SCSU and I am very grateful, any help I can get to continue learning would mean so much to me. I have so much left to learn.

Cheryl

As a graduate student returning to college I have learned more than I ever thought I was going to. I have worked in the education field for 5 years and when I enrolled in the Masters program I had envisioned that I would earn my credits towards my Masters degree and that was it. I felt I pretty much knew everything about my field. I was wrong! I have learned so much in depth information along with constuctive insight from my professors and others in the program that my experience has proved to be invaluable to me. All of my courses have provided projects requiring hands on experience, and presentations explaining what I have learned. This style of learning has been of such value to me compared to just reading a text and taking a test. It promotes hands-on learning and creates an open classroom environment where the students learn from each other as well. Returning to college has forced me to spend in depth time devoted to studying what I am passionate about. I would never have been able to spend this much time at work learning new areas of the job; college has given me that opportunity.

Taylor

I have grown more diverse in the friendships and connections I have established within the community. I have met with a lot of amazing people from around the world that have taught me about their culture and values, which to me is invaluable. Although I have not traveled to many places, I feel as though I have been around the world and back because of the knowledge I have obtained. I want to continue to expand on these relationships and learn more and more about these awesome people around the world. The passion that these students have for school and getting an education is unbelievable. This passion pushes and drives me to want to do the best I can in college. Not everyone is a fortunate as I am and able to get this kind of education.

Mahad

It is my first time attending a four year college and I am very satisfied with all the resources that my school offers. I first thought that it would have been difficult to go to a four year college without the help of friends or family, but then I realized that I was wrong and that ST Cloud State University is a better place to father one's education. I would recommend other students to attend this college so they can build their future. This school is better place for all!

Megan

I have gotten so much out of my college experience already and it's only my second year. I truely believe I have become an adult. If it wasn't for college, I never would have gotten out of the house to experience everything I have. Not for myself at least. And I have learned that is the best way to figure things out. It has also been valuable to attend and to keep attending school becuase that is how I keep growning. I never noticed how true the old saying, "You learn something new every day" was. It's not just learning things in class though. I learn a lot from the people I sit next to in class or in the library. It's meeting new people and learning their point of view or how they do things. It's also getting over that shy part inside of you and opening up to figure all of this out.

Devan

In my year and a half experience in a colllege setting I have learned not only what it means to be a responsible independent student but how to deal with the stress that life throws at you. I have learned alot about what it means to be a teacher. Teaching takes hard work and dedication to be a master teacher. Teaching isn't just a career you can jump into it is essential to know and understand the different cultures and lives of other students. Atteneding college has really increased my passion to become an elementary school teacher because I now have an oppertunity to achieve my goal in teahcing students and being a role model for students.

Ashley

My first year college experience has introduced me to many different people and some now happen to be my best friends. This year has also brought me to accept the many difficulties that come with live and has been very valuable and will continue to be the rest of my life.

Jeff

I have gotten a second chance at college at St. Cloud State University. I attended this school for 2.5 years after high school, but left with a GPA of 1.92. When I decided to go back to school and finish my dagree in physical education, I was welcomed back with open arms by the department and the school. I have worked hard and raised my GPA to 2.69 in 1.5 years and feel blessed to be given the chance to graduate in the 2011-2012 school year. I have learned as a result of this that everyone deserves a second chance because that is what I was given, a second chance at life (school life).

Shannon

I come from a different country and the school system is very different from the one here in the united states,. Attending to St. Cloud State iss being the best experience because i get to meet many people from other countries and learn about their different cultures. Its being valuable because this school has very good school programs and it has many resources to help you with any difficulty that you have at school, all these things are valuable because you learn from them and they are very nice experiences in your future career life as in your personal life.

Kalia

College is a way for students to find themselves and to gain more experience in the field that they are going to use for their future careers. Ever since my first year (freshmen) year of St. Cloud State university, it was an adventure and many things to experience. Instead of just coming to college and get a degree I also learned to find myself in the real world. I found my true personality and who am I. Before I came to college I use to be a girl with low self esteem and very low confidence, I tried ways to fit in with people during my high school years but coming to St. Cloud has taught me to stand up for what I need and speaking my voice to the world. Its really amazing how I have become this type of person, someone new. It has always been valuable for me to be able to get accepted into this school. I was afraid I would never be able to come to college, I lost hope after desparatly signing up for 8 colleges and getting rejected. I almost quit until I gave it one last try for St. Cloud State University.

Makenzie

In the course of attending St Cloud State, I have not only gained knowledge in the field I am studying, but I have learned so much about myself. I have been able to choose who I want to be, and how people see me, and without college I would not have been able to learn about who I am as a person. Although I chose to stay in my home town, I have been able to break free of the person I was all of my life, and reinvent myself in the light that I chose. Attending college has been very beneficial to me, as I am also learning things that I never would have had I not attended. I am learning to think critically and problem solve in the field of science, and I believe these skills are priceless. I would not change any of the choices I've made in choosing to attend a 4 year university, or the school that I chose to attend.

Ruth

Attending St. Cloud State has made me a person who I am today. Over the past two and half years, I have developed mentally in a way I have never imaged I would in such a short time. My family and friends have seen changes in me that they inspire to have for themselves. College is not just about books and class lectures, it is more than that, college experiance is experiancing yourself. Thats what St. Cloud State has given me, the chance to know myself. I know so much of what is around me than ever. I know what the future holds for me. The classes and the activities I did so far has shown me how much I can do for myself and benefit others. Going through this experiance has given me inspriation to follow my dreams. My future is bright. It have been a valuble experiance because I know whats ahead of me, I am confident and sure of myself, St. Cloud State is a challenge that I needed in my life. I am greatful and can not wait to graduate.

Erik

During my time at St. Cloud I have gotten alot of experience out of it. I have made many new friends, increased my knowledge very quickly and had a fun time being here. St. Cloud State is a fun school for students who want to further their education, enjoying meeting new people, and having a good time at our sporting events.

Melanie

Well I've actually just been accepted by ECPI College of Technology, therefore I can't honestly answer the question about college experience. It's valuable to attend because going to college allows you to be financially independent from the state, government, or your spouse after you graduate and get a job. It is also a great tool to use to get a degree in whatever field you choose. Going to college is a great esteem builder because if you can graduate college then you can do anything you set your mind to. Thank you.

Kimberly

I believe that I have gotten a reality check, because I am one of those young college students to so mysteriously become impregnated during their freshman year. I am happy about this surprise, and I feel that it has really helped myself to focus on my priorities and not to treat everything as a temporary event. I have become closer to my family, roommates, and everyone around me. I would not have had this happen to me if I didn't attend college and made the decisions I had made. It feels so good to finally feel like I am in control and that I will be making decisions. I have more than myself to motivate me to do the best I can in everything I do; my baby is all the motivation I need. I even look forward to facing the conseguences. I have changed my attitude completely, and deffinitely for the best. This may not be the regular experience, but it is just as powerful, and inspiring. If not, more enhancing and life changing to the beginning of my college experience. Many more college years to come!

Sainabou

I have joined clubs and meet quite a bit of people. I have learned that 20 minutes away from the cities is not a small town. Since I will meet people and thier whole town is the size of my old high school, and somethimes I will be the first african american person the people have met in thier whole life. I have become more responsible since I have been in college. All the times I have herad my mother say "Money doesn't grow on trees." I finally understand where she was coming from. Now that you have to pay your own bills you realize how hard people have to work to keep houses and support a family. I think that college is a valuable experience you are transitioning into an adult and college lets you make mistakes and find out who you are.

gloria

I never thought I would say that I actually yearn for the late nights of starring at a blank computer screen, hours of reading the same paragraph over and over again until it makes any sense, and the constant taunting of self doubt before handing in every quiz or essay. College is an experience that motivates you to push yourself beyond any and all expectations. All the struggles, self doubt, and obstacles that college throws at you are only metaphors of life's unpredictable twists and turns. I value the patience, the open-mindedness, and challenges that come with being a student. No matter how prepared we’d like to be, we have to accept that the world is much bigger than we could ever imagine and we have less control over the things around us. College is all about truly believing that with hard work comes great rewards, but the surprising part is how far we're willing to push ourselves in order to be content. Overall, college has prepared me for the reality of success, which is knowing that it is not about victory but what we go through to earn it.

Paige

I have discovered my passion for helping others while at this university, and have a path laid out for myself for the next few years. I have the opportunity to study abroad in Europe and this scholarship will make that opportunity, as well as continuing on in my studies next semester, possible.

Kelsey

My college experience has been unique thus far, because I am going post secondary, so I have not graduated high school yet, but am already going to college. I knew when I started in August, that it would be a learning experience, but I had no idea that it would be so eye-opening. Before attending St. Cloud State, I was one of the people who had heard that it was a "party school" and so that was all I saw it as. I didn't think they would give me a quality education, because I could not see past the reputation. However, I gave it a chance anyways, and my mind was completely changed. I have recieved an excellent education and learned not to judge something by their reputation or stereotype. I also have gotten the chance to meet new people and experience new cultures. I came from a high school where everyone was pretty much the same, but by going to St. Cloud State and meeting people of all different ethnicities, I have learned the importantance of diversity. My college experience at St. Cloud State University has been very beneficial and I look forward to next year.

I have gotten a lot out of the year and a half that I have been attending college. First, and the most obvious aspect, is the knowledge in my chosen field. My major is biochemistry, and I've come to learn that this is not an easy major to complete, and to complete well, but it is my passion and I love to learn more about this subject. When I do get stuck or don't fully understand the material presented, my professors are available to help me to better comprehend what I don't understand. I've also gotten a much stronger work ethic. The classes that I take tend to be very difficult, and I take, on average, seventeen credits per semester and will take that many per semester until I graduate. In order to stay on top of my workload, I have to have a strong work ethic, and a good sense of time management. And finally, from my college experience I have gotten a good sense of money management, through working two jobs, having a full-time education, and still making ends meet.

College has challenged and pushed me beyond my comfort zone and far beyond anything I thought I could possibly do. It has been an experience unlike any other one in which I have learned who I am and who I want to become. I have not only found a career, but a calling. I have discovered that I can face and succeed at obstacles that come my way because in college this is what I have had to do. At every corner I have learned something new about my field, about people and about myself. I am almost sad that it has to end, but also thrilled to enter a new path in my life. College has not just been a tool to prepare for a career but it has been a necessary part of my journey in life. It is an experience that will always be with because I am who I am because of it.

During my stay in st.cloud state university, i have imparted knowledge and skills that would help me in the future. As they say;"educations always opens doors to every knowlege seeker."The knowlege from St.cloud State University would help me into a better person.I hope i have so far achieved a lot and need to focuss twards the future.everything i learn here is significantly important and community health classes in particular are so exciting. There are good source of knowledge and best processes to care for community health and how to educate community at the time of critical health situatiions.Such knowledge helped me fulfill my career dream in health care.I'm hopeful that in the years to come i can change something in our health system to better the need of the American families.

I am a non-traditional student attending college the second time around. College has been so valuable to me because it has given me a new lease on life. I will be able to start a new career in a field that I love. It has given me a new confidence in myself and has taught me that with hard work and determination one can do anything they set their mind to. Being able to attend college as an older female is a great gift that so many women around the world are not able to do. I am grateful for that everyday. What I have learned, along with my life experience, is priceless to me and I would not trade any of that for anything.
