Matthew

An open minded, hard working, and committed student should apply to the University of Maryland. We are a strong research and business university with a balanced social scene. Our campus provides numerous academic and social opportunities for the most unique of students. Our large campus is easily broken up into subcultures that provide a small university atmosphere. Terrapin pride is infectious and the school spirit is abundant and tasteful. The University of Maryland provides a beneficial and fun personal experience for every student that talks the walk past the big "M".

Robert

A person who is lazy and doesnt want to do work.

claudia

People with extreme religious believes such as creationists, probably would not work very well in a scientific and progressive environment as the one that is offered at University of Maryland. However, since the University is characterized for being multicultural, I guess that this kind of people have the opportunity to attend school but may disagree with some academic contents such as evolution theory.

Jessica

I wholeheartedly believe that there is a type of person who shouldn't attend UMCP. As I mentioned, the school is so versitile that each and every student is able to find his or her own niche and enjoy school. However, if you do not like urban/suburban settings, UMCP may not be the school for you because College Park has a lot of late night life (restaurants, bars, parties, etc). College Park isn't completely urban like Boston or New York City, but there is a strong suburban feel.

Meyana

A person who is not dedicated to academic excellence should not attend this school. Neither should a person who is neither focused nor willing to strive for success.

Markia

The type of person who should not attend the University of Maryland is a person who is not very educated and goal oriented, lazy or easily stressed. To be sucessful at this school you most be a hard worker because the course load is not light and there is never any room for slacking if you want to do your best. Also because the course load can be difficult to keep up with at times stress comes easily and you have to be the type of person who has a personal understanding of stress management and know how to cope.

Minh

People who are very lazy and slack of enthusiasm should not attend this school since it is wasteful of their money and time.

Katherine

The diversity and number of opportunities available at Maryland truly makes it a college for everyone! However, being a hard-worker and an engaged student is definitely a requirement to succeed here, so someone who is uninspired and doesn't want to engage in their learning shouldn't attend University of Maryland.

Kwabena

University of Maryland, College Park, is not for people who prefer a small campus and small classrooms. At this school, students do a lot of walking since the dormitories are distal to the lecture halls, library and student unions. Therefore, people who don't like to walk for a long time should not attend this school. Addtionally, this university receives a lot of crime, espcially theft, since its an open community and because it is proximal to Washington D.C. Thus extremely fearful people should not attend this school but look into other universities.

Felicia

Someone who cant learn in a very busy environment.

Matthew

No one should feel as though they shouldn't attend, it is a public school after all. It is so diverse and has so many opportunites being located minutes from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, that any kind of person should feel good about going here. It is big however, so a person that wants to have smaller classes should look for other schools.

Fletcher

A person that doesn't want to go to a big school. Maryland is a huge place and can make you feel very small if you aren't ready for a big place where you don't know many people.

Chelsea

Someone who wants small classes and academically focuses students and good food

David

People that don't want to work hard should stay away from College Park. You can't go to a school like College Park and expect to get any easy A's. You have to really work hard to earn your grades or you'll fall flat on your face. It's not a school for people that aren't going to take college seriously. There's too much money being paid for you to just party all the time and fail your classes. If that's what you want, don't bother with College Park.

Mayur

Anyone who wants a good education and a diverse school

Vouthynar

A person that minds walking should not attend this school. Parking is a big issue for new sutdents because it's disaster and costs a lot. The work load for all the classes has been quite challenging. Many classes I have taken involve doing homework on-line with a strong work-load. In addition, you will need a good bit of expendable income because the last book for one class costed $174 and the total of books and homework online costs $120. If you think of taking a full load, just know that you wil need money.

Audessa

Somone who is interested in a small campus, with small class sizes, and lots of one on one attention. Anyone who does not enjoy large crowds and lots of people would become very overwhelemed by the number of people who attend the campus. Also anyone who is not a fan of wind would also not enjoy the weather.

Marie

Someone who desires a small campus that is close together would not like the spread out, huge campus here. Also, because there are tens of thousands of undergraduates, it woud not be a fit for someone who wants a small college community. Any person who does not like to voice their opinion and is not open to listen to others would not like the university either.

Nathan

Someone who is interested in in an artistic environment or small college.

AMANDA

ONE THAT PLANS ON ACHIEVING ALL THERE GOALS AND BEING VERY SERIOUS ABOUT IT.

Paola

The kind of person who should not attend this school is someone who does not have the will and motivation to succeed and is only there to party. The school has many activities and extracurricular activities available, but if a person who does not have their priorities straight attends this school, then they will most likely fail their first semester in college.

N

The kind of student who just wants to party.

Justin

The University of Maryland is not the kind of school for those who do not want a large campus with a very large number of students. If you want a small secluded campus with a small class size than University of Maryland is not for you. The campus can get busy and a little crowded sometimes, so if you are not a people person, that may be a problem.

Stacy

A person who does not like to walk around a lot should not go to this school because the campus is very large.

Amnah

The University of Maryland is a large school, centered in a metropolitan area and has a largely diversified student body. Some students, as myself, love this bustling city-like atmosphere, with classes of 100 some students. However, such an environment is not recommendable for all students, especially those who prefer smaller classes and want to be known by their name and not just a number. I suggest those students who are very conservative and shy not to attend this school because in order to mingle well with the college community they must be confident, outgoing and full of energy.

Doug

My best advice for picking the school you like is to visit the school and interact with the people there. If you do not fall in love with the campus, if you do not fit in with or enjoy being around the students, and if you?re professors are not the kind of person you enjoy being around, then do go to that University or College. University of Maryland is no exception, but do not discount this college because you think you will get lost; frienships and inner communities form fast and last long.

Tony

Coming to this campus, you should know that it is a big public school. If you aren't good around big crowds of people than Maryland isn't for you. Maryland is very diverse within religion, race, political views. If it is hard for you to accept other peoples beliefs, than it would be a hard journey but don't be discourage by that. Other than that, Maryland is a great school and has many opportunites for everyone to get involved in.

Angel

The person who shouldn't attend Maryland, is a person who does not want to be intellectually challeged. Otherwise I say that the University of Maryland is for everyone. There are so many activities on campus that it's hard to not keep busy. Academics are the most important thing so you should be ready to work from the first day. With all the activities to do, one must learn how to mange time effectively. I believe that anyone will enjoy the campus life and the people.

Courtney

I think anyone would be able to succeed at Maryland. There are so many options available to you and so many possible things to become involved with. There are a range of career paths you follow and although there are large classes if you make an effort you can become really close iwth your professors. Maryland is a school that becomes what you make of it and if you want to do well you have all the tools you just need to have the want.

Rachel

Someone who is closed-minded and not willing to try new things or consider new ideas. Also, someone who does not embrace diversity in people. At UMD, there are students of MANY different backgrounds and going to school everyday is a learning experience.

Faris

If you are the type of student who never studies for tests, do not contemplate applying to the University of Maryland. If you despise required reading, do not apply. If you are not willing to work hard, do not apply. If you are student who frequently skipped class during high school, do not apply. If you think you may feel discomforted by a 200 student lecture hall, do not apply. If you don't know anyone else going to this university, and are not good at making friends, it is in your best interest to go somewhere else.

Naeemuddin

This university offers a very competitive education and requires a lot of work. Therefore, students that are not yet ready to put forth effort into their studies should not attend this university. Furthermore, students that have not excelled in high school should consider a community college to attain their primary education so that they are better prepared to face the challenges at the University of Maryland.

Lauren

This school's location and environment would fit the needs of one who enjoys a very diverse, populated environment. Therefore, someone looking for a very small school in a rural, quiet location would not prefer this school. Academically, students are pushed to explore areas outside of their major, where they are often involved in research projects, group activities, and outside involvements for core classes. Someone who is shy and prefers to surround themselves with solely those students of their major would not enjoy the large population and opportunities the campus offers.

Kristen

A person who is not understanding of other races, cultures, ethnicities, religions, ect would not enjoy going to school at Maryland. We have a lot of diversity on campus and it is something that is celebrated by the students, alumni, and faculty. Also, you should have school spirit! Students packed Byrd Stadium even though our football team wasn't very good this past season and basketball tickets are difficult to get. We love our Terps!

Lauren

A very closed minded person should not attend this school, nor should somebody who's all about partying and not doing work. Though we are a very active campus and party extremely hard, we it comes time to work we get it done. Also, a person who has lived in a bubble will be overwhelmed will all the exposure of all the different lifestyles. If you can't balance school and partying you can't make it here, you will flunk out.

Chelsea

If you are a really introverted and shy person, the University of Maryland campus may not be for you. Unless you plan on branching out and trying new things, it will be really hard to make friends and go out, if you are really reserved.

Michelle

Bethany

You shouldn't attend this school if you aren't self-motivated or are able to be an advocate for yourself. It's a large school, so someone who doesn't like to walk or find their own ways of doing something should also not attend this school.

Joshua

Someone who has drive and commitment and will put school ahead of social life.

Giuliana

I think that someone who wanted to go to a small school where they would know most of the students and the faculty shouldn't attend Maryland because it is pretty big. Also, although not everyone takes part in it, but those who are extremely opposed to partying and drug use would probably not be comfortable at Maryland.

Anne

UMD is a huge campus with alot of school spirit. If you can't embrace the turtle and don't look good in red and black then this is not a good school for you. There is also alot of walking. Everyone walks everywhere. The shortest walk I ever had to class was 5 minutes, while most took between 10 and 15 minutes.

Alisha

If you prefer a small enviroment and a very quiet and non involved school, then I wouldn't recommend coming to the school. It is a very lively and active school that always gives you something to do.

Rachael

No one! Everyone should come to UMD

Tolulope

Someone who is lazy and does not want to put a lot of effort in to his or her school work

Bethany
