Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  2. Must have experienced a cumulative gap in their education of five or more years.
  3. Must be at the undergraduate level and pursuing their first baccalaureate degree
  4. Must demonstrate financial need.

Description: The first Osher endowments supporting scholarships were established in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Maine. This scholarship is available for undergraduate level students pursuing their first baccalaureate degree in the 50 states and Washington, DC. Applicants must be returning to education after a minimum of five years absence.

Application requirements for the Osher Reentry Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The Foundation learned about the unique challenges faced by nontraditional students through its relationship with two Bay Area institutions. Mills College and Dominican University of California. Pursuing a degree at an age older than traditional undergraduates, these students often balance work and family obligations. All while attending school either part- or full-time. The Reentry program, launched in 2005, offers scholarship support for students who are re-entering college. The Foundation defines reentry students as persons who have been out of school for 5 or more years. But who want to resume their education as an undergraduate. This scholarship aims to benefit students who have years of employability ahead. Usually, they 25 to 50 years of age. Osher Scholarships are available at many institutions of higher education around the country.

Award Amount: The grant value is up to $50,000 a year with a possible renewal for a second or third year. Awards must be applied to student tuition fees only.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $50,000.
