Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 48 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be enrolled full time.
  4. Must be enrolled in one of the colleges/universities related to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). A list of the eligible schools is available at www.apcu.net/memberschools.htm and on the recitation form.
  5. Must be a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  6. Must be a college junior or senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: College juniors and seniors who attend one of the schools related to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and are members of that church are eligible to enter this essay contest. Students must be able to recite the Westminster Shorter Catechism and submit an essay on the assigned topic.

Additional Information: The Samuel Robinson Award is a competitive essay contest. Essays are read and graded and awards are made based on the grade the student receives.

Award Amount: $1,500 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,250.

Each applicant must fill out an online questionaire in order to request an application. This is available on the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (PC-USA) website. In order to apply for this award, students must successfully recite the Westminster Shorter Catechism to their campus chaplain, a person designated by the college or university, or his/her pastor. The student and and the person to whom he/she recited the catechism must then complete the recitation form, available online on the PC-USA website. The student must also complete a W-9 form, which is available online on the PC-USA website. To be considered for the maximum scholarship award, the student must also write a 2,000-word original essay on a related assigned topic. The topic is available on the PC-USA website. Essays must be typed and double-spaced, and the pages must be numbered. The student's name should appear at the top right-hand corner of each page. All application materials should be sent directly to the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. at the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date.
