Number of Awards & Eligibility: As part of the AOPA You Can Fly program and thanks to the generosity of the Ray Foundation, up to 20 teachers will be awarded scholarships to pursue their primary pilot certificate such as a private, sport or recreational pilot certificate.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident.
  2. Must be an AOPA member.
  3. Must be an paid full-time employee of a aviation school or school system.

Description: Up to 20 teachers will be awarded scholarships of $10,000 each to pursue a primary pilot certificate such as a private, sport or recreational pilot certificate. The Teacher Flight Training Scholarship is provided by AOPA and awarded to flight instructors who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Application requirements for the Teacher Flight Training Scholarship are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
Additional Information: To be eligible, a teacher must be an AOPA member and a paid full-time employee of a school or school system who is preparing students for a future in aviation.

Award Amount: Scholarships are awarded in amounts up to $10,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applicants fill out a form on the provider website. They must provide a letter from his or her school verifying their employment in a school or school system during the 2019-20 school year and signed by a district administrator. If a district administrator is applying, the letter needs to be signed by another administrator employed by the same school system
