Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be actively pursuing a graduate degree in thermal spray processes (plasma, flame, arc, or HVOF) or materials at an accredited university.
  2. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  3. Must be a current graduate student with one or more years of study remaining.

Description: International and U.S. graduate students with one or more years of school remaining are eligible for this award. Students must be majoring in thermal spray processes (plasma, flame, arc, HVOF) or materials at an accredited university.

Application requirements for the ITSA Graduate Student Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: Since 1991, the ITSA Scholarship Program has contributed to the growth of the thermal spray community, especially the development of new technologists and engineers. The International Thermal Spray Association is very proud of this education partnership and encourages all eligible participants to apply. ONLY applications meeting ALL criteria will be accepted for consideration. Winners will be announced in August.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online from the International Thermal Spray Association (ITSA) website by clicking on the 'Scholarship' tab. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: two letters of recommendation, one from a university professor (recommending student for this scholarship) and one from an industrial source; and a letter that presents his/her interest in pursuing a career in thermal spray (maximum of three typed pages). The student's financial need must also be verified by a professor. Completed applications are accepted from May 1 through July 15 each year. Applications received before or after this time period will not be considered. Students should send completed applications to ITSA via postal mail.
