Alabama Board of Nursing
Awards are distributed as follows: post-baccalaureate nursing students will receive $3,800; and nursing education students will receive $5,000. All awards are offered annually and are non-renewable. Students can reapply each year. The amount can vary based on funding each year.
Awards are distributed as follows: 15 will be given to students pursuing post-baccalaureate nursing education, and approximately 40 will be given to students who plan to teach nursing.
In addition to all other eligibility criteria, the student must be a person of good character. The student must agree to either teach nursing full-time in an Alabama college or university for at least one year immediately after graduation (if receiving the Scholarship to Educate Nursing Instructors) or practice professional nursing in Alabama for at least one year immediately after graduation (if receiving the Scholarship for Post-Baccalaureate Nursing Education). Prior to Oct. 1 of the year of study, the recipient must submit a signed promissory note and an agreement to fulfill obligations to repay funds. Funds must be repaid if the recipient fails to continue full-time study, complete his/her program of study, or teach/practice nursing in Alabama for one year after graduation. The announcement of scholarship recipients will be released after the September 2015 Alabama Board of Nursing meeting.
