Number of Awards & Eligibility: The awarding of academic admissions scholarships is highly competitive. Less than 10 percent of the incoming fall freshman class will receive a scholarship.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be a first-time entering freshman.
  4. Must attend Florida International University.
  5. Must plan to enroll full time.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 4.0 or higher.
  7. Must have an ACT score of 28 or higher OR an SAT score of 1850 or higher.
  8. Must be a National Merit, National Achievement, or National Hispanic finalist.
  9. Must attend a college or university in Florida.

Description: This scholarship is open to first-time entering freshmen at Florida International University. Students must have a grade point average of 4.0 or higher, an ACT score of 30 or higher or an SAT score of 2000 or higher, and be National Merit/Achievement/Hispanic finalists.

Application requirements for the FIU National Recognition Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: Scholarship recipient notifications will be sent out beginning on Jan. 15. Recipients must accept the scholarship and submit their enrollment deposit by May 1.

Award Amount: This scholarship provides 100 percent of tuition and fees, plus room and board, up to the cost of attendance as published by the Office of Student Financials. Scholarships are renewable if the student maintains: full-time status; a grade point average of 3.0 or higher; and completion of 30 credit hours between fall and spring terms.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $27,108.

Scholarship information is available on the Florida International University (FIU) website. To be considered for this scholarship, the student must apply for admission to FIU. A completed admissions application includes the following: online application, including Florida residency documentation if applicable; a non-refundable application fee; official high school transcripts; and official ACT and/or SAT scores. Students must be admitted to FIU prior to Nov. 1. Students are strongly encouraged to submit an admissions application by Oct. 15 to allow time for the application to be processed. Once admission is offered, scholarship invitations will be sent via email to eligible students. Scholarship applications must be completed no later than Nov. 15 via fiu.academicworks.com. A completed scholarship application consists of two letters of recommendation and a personal statement.
