Number of Awards & Eligibility: 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  4. Must plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 or more credits per semester for undergraduate students; 9 or more credits per semester for graduate students).
  5. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  6. Must major in education.
  7. Must be a college junior, senior, or graduate student at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for college juniors, seniors, and graduate students who are residents of Hawaii and majoring in education. Students must have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.

Additional Information: Alma White was a long-time teacher and principal in Hawai'i. When she died, she left a great part of her assets to the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Delta Chapter, of which she was a member. The Society is an educational society dedicated to the advancement of women educators. The Chapter members established this scholarship which will enable future generations of Hawai'i students to pursue teaching as their life's calling. All applicants for this award must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; two letters of recommendation; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applicants must also submit a letter from his/her school confirming enrollment in the education program. Note: A student will NOT be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
