Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 222 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester).
  5. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 3.3 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be of Hawaiian ancestry.
  8. Must be a college freshman or sophomore to apply for this award for the first time. College juniors and seniors may apply only if they were previous recipients of this award.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for female college freshmen and sophomores who are residents of Hawaii and are of Hawaiian ancestry. Past recipients who will be juniors or seniors are also eligible to apply. Students must have a grade point average of 3.3 or higher.

Additional Information: The Ka'iulani Home for Girls originally provided housing for young women of Hawaiian ancestry. Kamehameha Schools used the building from 1950 to 1962 to board female students attending the schools. When the home became so old it could not be repaired, it was demolished and the property sold. The Ka'iulani Home for Girls Trust was established in 1963 and it continues the original mission of supporting Hawaiian females. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: Approximately $739 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $739.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Please note: A first-time applicant must also submit a copy of her birth certificate to verify ancestry. Also, past recipients who will be juniors and seniors may also apply. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date.
