Colorado State University-Fort Collins Top Questions

Describe the students at your school.

Amy

I think that most of the student body is really friends and accepting of all of the other students...I would call the majority of the people that go here, middle to upper class. I don't really have a reason why, I just get that vibe from everyone.

Jenn

We have a lot of student groups on campus, and they tell you they have one for every student, but most of them don't advertise that they are even on campus at all. They hold meetings once a month maybe, so if you can't make it ti their times schedued, you are just out of luck. Which totally sucks if you want to do something besides greek life, student government, or student media. The student body is pretty diverse, but when they match you up for your roomate your freshman year, they keep you pretty divided. It makes for a great roomate arrangement and you get along with your floor, but you are pretty much the same sort of people.

Liz

I feel they try to make everyone welcome. it is not anti LGBT, and its not pro LGBT, its just average. people do what they want and are welcome to their own opinions.

Christina

CSU's student body is primarily white, middle-to-upper class, straight students. Most of America's majorities are reflected at CSU. Ethnic minorities, homosexuals, and religious minorites might feel out of place at CSU. Most students wear jeans, hoodies, or sweats to class. Different types of students rarely interact, unless required to for class. Most CSU students are from Colorado. There's also a large collection from Texas and, judging from various license plates, New Mexico. About half of the students are working to put themselves through college, although they have sufficient aid from family members if they need it, and the other half's parents are footing the bills. Some students are politically aware and active, but a large percentage are either apathetic or uneducated on the subject. Predominantly left and moderate, although right-wingers are not unaccounted for. Students FREQUENTLY talk about how much they'll earn one day.

Ashley

The student body overall is sweet. I meant there are always those people who piss you off or whatever but that happens all over the world. We try to help each other out and to do what is best for CSU in my opinion.

steve

too many skaters. get in the way of everyone else, and make it difficult for others to get through.

Christopher

CSU is a very diverse university. I see students of all types and i am actually very surprised at how racially diverse it is. I see european, asian, african, south american, etc students every day. I feel like a majority of the students are from Colorado but i have seen an incredible amount of middle eastern students. There are all types of groups and classifying the clothes is tough.

Lauren

I have had many different experiences with diverse racial groups on campus. Coming from a small town with no diversity whatsoever I have seen and learned a lot. It has really opened my eyes on many different perspectives. Most students wear the usual to class. This being levis, tenis shoes and t-shirts and/or sweatshirts. Some students dress up, sometimes for presentations but also for pleasure. Some students also wear sweats. Pretty much no one cares and you can wear what ever you feel like without feeling discriminated against.

Michael

CSU has a "salad bowl" of cultures that attend here. CSU students wear all different types of clothing to school. I think that CSU is politically aware right now. Our country needs to be fixed and I do believe most students are aware of the Presidental race.

Tammy

One of the first things i noticed about CSU's student body was the diversity. I came from a small town in southwest Colorado that was predomninantly white with some hispanics. Since coming here, i have interacted with many people of different races, and find it interesting to meet people with different backgrounds.

Annette

Most of the students at CSU are from Colorado. Although CSU can't help this and may like the fact that it is truly a Colorado native school, it's hard to feel likxpanding your horizons.

Brittani

CSU is very open and accepting of all races, religions, and orientations. I feel CSU has a good blend of students from many different cultures, religions or socio-economic levels. CSU also has a ton of clubs and groups to join in order to not only get involoved in the campus but get connected with people you have similarities with. Although most students seem to be some from somehwere in or around Colorado, I feel we have a decent amount of foreign exchange students and people from other regions of the United States. Most students wear casual clothes to dress. Many freshman girls make the mistake of wearing something cutsie the first day instead of comfortable (meaning high heels instead of flip flops) and learn their lesson quickly the first day, it is a lot of walkig typically!

Natalie

It's interesting to see some of the really religious students preaching out in the courtyard because I transferred here from another school just this semester. I like how people really express themselves here. I've noticed some diversity, but majority of the students appear to be Caucasian.

Jane

the student body is dominently white, but not racial. Religious views are the most out spoken on campus, mayn people preach there views in the center of campus. there is a LGBT group and they are very supportive. Honestly, i think almost anyone could fit in at CSU. cassual clothing jeans, sweats, and T-shirts most of the time. The tables stay pretty mixed it is not like high school.

Alex

A very large Caucasian population-don't believe what the brochures say, but there are people from all over. Most students wear clothes to class... (? weird question) People are generally pretty open and accepting. I haven't met anyone who wasn't interested in being friends; people are generally accepting and friendly. There are people from all economic backgrounds, people who came because they could barely afford it, and people who come because they love this school.

Sophia

i am a jewish student going to school in a predominately christian state and in a predominately christian school. i am okay with that, but it is hard to find many students who have similar beliefs. there are people from all types of people here; different walks of life, different experiences, and different reasons for coming to csu. most students are from colorado, because it is cheaper to stay in state. the most predominate political stand is democratic. but there are other political groups on campus. everybody is here for a common goal, to become an educated person and it doesn't matter how we got here.

Jenna

I think that everyone has a place on campus. I have seen more ethnic and religious diversity on campus then I have probably anywhere else I have been. I think that everyone interacts and gets along pretty well.

Kerri

Everyone I believe really work well together, I don't think race is a big issue here from my point of view. Students wear anything from Sweatpants, to dress clothes every day.

Amy

I dont have any experience with any racial groups or any others. Most students wear typical popular clothing, but there is always of a mixture of styles. I think the most popular are ugg boots, and those strappy style sandals.

Erin

I feel out of place here. I don't really interact with many people, I find that they are all "plugged in" almost constantly. I am not a traditional student but I am not "old", and I find that people like me are not out in the open.

Steven

Most students seem to be Christian and/or conservative. Well, I'm atheist and liberal, but it doesn't bother me. Just because you're not religious or have similar political views doesn't mean you can't fit in with people and make friends. A lot of people's backgrounds seem to be pretty diverse--that makes it interesting.

Zach

lots of surveys

Katie

Is not as diverse as other schools, but we are accepting to all people.

Kara

I dont think anyone would feel out of place at CSU. Most students wear sweats to class. Csu students are mostly from Colorado. Most students come from middle-class families.

Rebecca

Most students are pretty casual and wear jeans, flip flops, and a hoodie or tee shirt.

Josh

The financial background of students is varied some students drive BMW's and others eat top romin for most meals.

Jeff

there are tons of good looking women once the sun comes back out the clothes come off

Alyssa

CSU is most definitely lacking in the diversity section of its student body. There are many groups geared towards specific groups but the member numbers are low. A student who has their mind set on experiencing the world would feel out of place here. The majority of people I run into lack in the longing to get out of their little 'bubbles'. Most students call Colorado their home and are a very privelaged kind of people. Students will hands down pretend they are politically aware but once you start delving into the topic they turn their heads and talk about how much they hate a certain class.

Joey

The only students who would feel out of place at CSU would be those who like being alone, yet even here at CSU i've seen plenty of students from high school who once talked to no one and are now walking with big crowds of friends

Blake

THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE FROM DIFF. CULTUTER WHICH IS NICE BECAUSE YOU GET TO LEARN A LOT ABOUT LOTS OF PLACES AROUND THE WORLD.

Trevor

The students are generally accepting and there is does not seem to be real strong lines between different groups. CSU does lack diverisity though. Im not sure how my experience sould have been different if I were a minority, but I think that most everyone feels comfortable at CSU.

Jamie

I haven't really experienced any racial or religious issues at CSU, but i'm sure they occur! I just feel like CSU is a melting pot of different kinds of people with different views and beliefs. I think we all see it as a positive thing instead of bashing it! Different "types" of students interact with eachother, on campus and off!

Travis

The student body at CSU is a giant melting pot. Nobody is really out of place, CSU has everyone with everything attached.

Ashley

The only experience I had with religion on campus was seeing people protesting outside and students have debates. Most students wear comfortable clothes to class, like sweats. Most students I have met at CSU are conservative.(Right)

natalie

None. I think that everyone can find someone to fit in with at CSU. Pepole wear whatever they like. There is no one style. Yes they intercat a little but eberyone has the friends they would rather be with. They are mostly from Fort Collins, (and denver) but so am i so maybe i just know a lot of people from here. There are a lot of especially rich kids here with their parents money. I dont know a lot of students(like me) who are putting themselves through school. They are mostly left i would say. No they dont really talk about that too much.

Cameron

Sometimes I feel that I feel out of place on campus and that I'm different but the people here are cool and I've never really had no negative feedback.

Russell

there are many students here from india and saudia arabia and stuff... i feel bad for them because they cant speak english and it makes me wonder why they are here because it is clear that they are unable to learn what they are being taught an it also makes me wonder... are the standards lower for them? how else would they pass. i would sa many of the csu students are from colorado but im not sure. the dining hall is nothing like high school in my opinion, you sit with whoever you want. prevelant financial background appears to be wealthy. i dont notice the political side of things aroung campus. im busy with other things

Lindsey

I'm part of campus ministries and enjoy trying to get the word out about the Lord. Thats really the only experience with those kinds of groups on campus. most students wear jeans and a shirt to class. I've seen lots of different types of students interacting. Most CSU students are from instate, it seems. Some students are pilitically aware/active.

Kelly

I have not had many experiences with those groups at college. I love how there is a wide variety of groups though. A student that would feel out of place at CSU would probably be someone who get's anxious around a lot of people, someone who doesnt do well getting around in a busier area. Students wear a variety of different things to class, it's all about personality. I cant say I have seen any overly revealing clothing though, but then again it is "winter" out here for some people. I would say, coming from Maine, that people out here are wealthier. I am sure a lot of students are politically aware me personally, aint. I don't get the next question haha sorry. I have never heard anyone at CSU talk about how much they will earn after college.

Megan

Most of the religious people on campus are very polite. They ask questions that some may think to be intrusive but it is done in a pleasant way. However, there is one radical religious man who makes it his goal to demonize all college students as sinners who are going to hell. I think that CSU is pretty welcoming to all students. I see people wearing a variety of styles. However, it seems that CSU is most prevalently white middle or upper middle class students.

Colleen

All races should feel in place. Most wear casual clothes jogging clothes, or jeans and tees. Most students are from colorado. Some are politically aware/ active but I would say most freshman are not.

Whitney

coming from a diffrent country it is suprising how many groups are there on campus. pants and shirts, yes they interact, colorado, low income students, not alot mostly care about studying on politics.

Tristan

Anyone that is not white feels a little out of place at CSU. No one has ever said or done anything racist to my face. However, I have had plenty of people put things on my desk, rather then hand them to me for fear of touching my hand.

Morgan

Girls dress amazing first couple weeks of class, pretty relaxed after that. Not an extremely diverse campus from what I noticed.

Sarah

I have not had a large experience with groups on campus. Older transfer or transfer students. They were comfortable clothing. Not really unless they are forced/requested to step outside their comfort zone. One table is a few art students hovering closely to their ipods. Another is a table of athletic boys ranting and laughing about how "fucked" up they got that weekend or the night before. There are two tables with just one person at them reading and trying to mind their own buisness.

Shannon

Since the school is so large, there are so many opportunities to become parts of groups so that you don't feel out of place at CSU. There are constantly events that are held by the minority student groups on campus, and they are open for everyone and strong encouraged. I think all students have the opportunity to find a place on campus, it just is a matter of trying. What students wear to class is dependent on the college you are in. In the College of Business students dress pretty nicely, and it is very common to see someone in a suit. As for other departments/colleges I notice people wearing sweatpants and pajamas everyday. Just a matter of different cultures. There are certain segments that are very politically active/aware, but they are definitely the minority. College of business students DEFINITELY talk about how much they'll earn one day.

Rob

I think there is not enough diversity at this school. This school needs to grow demographicly. The town is changing that is not helping that cause. I personally don't feel out of place talking to just about anyone, but its seems a lot of students don;t feel the same way.

Sarah

I do not have that much association with clubs on campus. Most CSU students are from Colorado but also Chicago and east coast.

Kara

I think that racial groups get too much attention. I dont think anyone would feel out of place. Students where everything to class nothing specific. I see different types of students interact. Most CSU students are from Colorado. You see tables of athletes, people in the same class, same major, etc. Most financial backgrounds are middle class. Yes students are politically aware and active. I talk about how much I wish to earn one day.

Molly

The student body as a whole is very welcoming, however, diversity lacks incredibly. As a Jewish student, however, I dont feel left out. Hillel is my home and it gives me a voice on campus. Our holocaust programs this year alone attracted over two thousand people.
