I have so far loved my experience at Carroll. While I went into my program during COVID-19, I had no problems connecting with professors and enjoying my courses, My experience on campus has been superb: I've made great friends and learned so much in psychology that I will be able to apply to graduate programs and my career. The education I am earning at JCU will be one that I forever cherish and appreciate.
I have mixed feelings about John Carroll University. First off, I truly love how small the classes are. All of my professors know my name and they have gotten to know me as a person, not just a student taking classes. Similarly, the professors at John Carroll care deeply about the success of their students; most of them are very flexible and willing to adjust to students’ needs. Additionally, they are always available during office hours to give students the help and attention that they deserve. John Carroll also offers a wide variety of academic programs from which students can choose. While all of the programs are reputable, the Boler College of Business has an even greater reputation, especially in the greater Cleveland area. Aside of academics, the religious landscape of John Carroll is particularly notable. I do not strongly practice any religion, so the emphasis on the Catholic faith can be a bit off-putting. On tours, the guides claimed that the religion was never overly pushed. My personal experience disagrees with that, however. Perhaps this is not a big deal if you are a devout Catholic, but as a non-religious person, I often feel out of place at John Carroll because of its religious landscape. Finally, I really enjoy the suburban area in which JCU is located. The historic neighborhoods are truly charming, which makes for some lovely walks around the outskirts of campus. However, if you are looking for a more traditional “college town” feel, I do not think that JCU can deliver. For me, JCU’s location is the perfect balance because it is located in a safe suburb, though it is still very close to downtown Cleveland.
I love my school! I am a commuter, and love that I can still feel a part of the community even though I don't live on campus. My professors are great and are always available, and I know that I am getting a great education from a wonderful private institution!
As with anything, you have to take advantage of the opportunities given. There is plenty of opportunity to join clubs, get involved on campus and attend events. Students are kept informed regularly through email alerts detailing current events on campus and general need-to-know info. Professors (in my experience) are more that willing to help if reached out to. The curriculum in general is rigorous and aimed to make us as well rounded as possible. This often means that along with core classes pertaining to one's major, other humanities classes and electives are mandatory. This is sometimes annoying because some of these courses don't always feel relevant. That being said, JCU is a good school. Employers actively seek out JCU graduates, having faith in the academic excellence that JCU prides itself in. The alumni community is also very involved in the school and are willing to help students through networking in securing internships, jobs

If I had to go back in time, I would make sure that I used all the resources available. I would not take anything for granite and realize the opportunity that attending an institution like John Carroll is an honor. I would also tell myself to be prepared to work hard and study on a regular basis. Finally, I would tell myself to take time to relax and enjoy the college experience. We are only in college for a short period of time and it goes quick. I would also tell myself to surround yourself with the right group of people and enjoy the memories and friendships that you have.
The avaliablility of resources for the students.
Many different social groups where one can find others like them.
It is not to "commuter friendly", its hard to handle a job while attending.
I brag about how I will get a great job after graduation. I am confident by having a degree from John Carroll and making the right connections with others who attended the university, I will land a great job.
There is a strong atmosphere of service toward others that is not only exhibited in the service projects in which the students lead and participate, but also throughout the campus itself in acts such as holding doors for everyone.
I wish I had know that living on campus would not be as fun as I thought.
Someone who wants to get a good education while still having fun. A person who is compassionate and diverse.
The kind of person that shouldn't attend this school is the type of person that doesn't want to get a good education and have fun in the process. This university has a good combination of fun and a hard learning environment. I have met some of the most fun and interesting people at this university and have learned so much so far and I am only a sophomore. I can't wait to see what the next two years has in store for me at this university.
Attempting to find a job with the career center and the administration and the way they handle the student body.
