What should every freshman at your school know before they start?
Student, as well as parents, should try finding the college that best fits their future academic plans & needs. Students should definitely not slack off their freshmen year, but make the most of it, so they set a good foundation for the next few years. Students really need to remain intact and hardworking with their school work to obtain a good gpa and graduate successfully. They need to try their best not to get distracted by other social activites that happen during a students college life.

The classmates I have encountered at UST today alone have impressed me with two general ideas: the first is that UST students are an extremely diverse group, and they all embrace that. I see people from all walks of life eating and talking together but also learning alongside each other. The second idea I have picked up is that these students are a bit immature sometimes - by this, I mean that when an outsider (such as myself, for I am a transfer/commuter student) comes in, they are wary. I received assurances this will change, however, so I am hopeful.

This school is primarily a commuter school which is a unique experience for a non-commuter like myself. With a student body of around 3000 I am able to have diversity within my classes and meet lots of new people, but after class hours I am part of a much smaller community of students who live on campus. The on-campus living arrangements allow for great community life, and I live with all of my closest friends.

The best thing about the University of St. Thomas is the education. Being a Catholic liberal arts school, you are required to take Theology and Philosophy classes in addition to a vast core. Some may think that many of the classes they take will have nothing to do with your major, but you get insight into so many different disciplines, which allows you to think and analyze more critically. Not only that, but regardless of your beliefs the classes help you to learn more about yourself which is the key to success after college.
