Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In the past, one scholarship has been awarded. Students may apply for and receive more than one scholarship through the Pride Foundation.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be under the age of 25.
  2. Must be of Latin heritage.
  3. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes.
  4. Must be involved in athletics.
  5. Must be a resident of one of the following states: Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana or Alaska.
  6. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for Latino/Latina youth under age 25 with a preference for students involved in athletics and students committed to LGBT equality.

Additional Information: Recognizing the tremendous financial need of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) students, as well as straight ally students in the region, Pride Foundation began its scholarship program to help develop tomorrow's leaders that work for social justice. Since 1993 the foundation has helped more than 400 students achieve their educational goals. The applicant will be notified by early April confirming whether she has been selected for the interview stage of the scholarship process (students who have not been selected will also be notified). Final selection of scholarship recipients will be made in late April or early May. If the applicant would like his/her submitted materials returned to him/her, enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope or make other arrangements with Pride Foundation by using the contact information provided. Preference is given to students who are self-identified lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered; members of LGBT families; or allies who have been strongly supportive of the LGBT community.

Award Amount: The monetary award amount varies and is determined by the scholarship provider. Generally, scholarships offered through the foundation are a minimum of $500 to a maximum of $12,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

The student only needs to submit one application to be considered for all Pride Foundation scholarships. All applications must be submitted online. As part of the online application, the student must submit the following: contact information for two references who are familiar with her capabilities and potential for success in her education and community involvement (recommended that one reference be a teacher, counselor, or other academic representative); and answers to six essay questions concerning the topics of education goals, career goals, activities, giving back, challenges, and a quote (limited to 3,000 characters except for activities, which is limited to 5,000 characters). Further details on the essay topics are available on the online application. A student who is currently studying or plans to study visual arts, design, or music should submit two samples of his/her work. Picture samples can be in the following formats: GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIF, TIFF, PDF, DOC; Music must be in MP3 or MP4 formats; and videos must be MOV or AVI files. The file size must be no more than 300 MB. Students who are selected for an interview will be asked to bring a portfolio. Students who are selected for an interview will also be asked to bring a transcript. The complete application must be submitted by 5 p.m. PST on the deadline date.
