Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies from year to year and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a present or former resident of one of the following Pennsylvania counties: Dauphin, Cumberland, York, Perry, Franklin, Lebanon, Adams, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Montour, Snyder, Bedford, Blair, Centre, Clinton, Huntingdon, Mifflin, Union or Northumberland.
  2. Must be in the final three years of a Bachelor of Architecture program OR in a graduate program leading to a Master of Architecture degree.
  3. Must be majoring in architecture.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. architecture students who are in graduate or the final three years of a bachelor's degree program. Students must be present of former residents of an eligible Pennsylvania county.

Additional Information: The Joseph L. and Vivian E. Steele Fund of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities is used annually to grant scholarships to students in need of financial assistance who are in the final three years of a Bachelor of Architecture program OR in a graduate program leading to a Master of Architecture degree.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually. The award is non-renewable, but eligible students may reapply for consecutive years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $15,000.

To apply for this scholarship, each potential applicant must first submit an online qualification form. If determined eligible, he/she will then be given instructions on how to formally apply for the scholarship. Qualification forms may be found on the Foundation for Enhancing Communities website and must be completed online no later than the posted deadline date.
