Up to $600 annually, renewable for one additional year provided the student remains in good standing as an 11th or 12th grade student (as verified by the high school).
The number of awards offered each year may vary and is dependent on the number of qualified applicants and the amount of funding available. In the previous academic year, a total of 381 awards disbursed.
The TOPS Tech Early Start award provides funding for eligible 11th and 12th grade students attending a Louisiana public high school who wish to concurrently enroll for up to six credit hours per semester at a public college in a vocational course of study leading to an industry-based certification in a 'Top Demand Occupation'. The student's high school will determine whether the student is eligible to participate in the TOPS-Tech Early Start program and approve or disapprove the student’s participation in the program. In addition to all other eligibility requirements, the student must: achieve a minimum passing score or higher in English and mathematics on the Graduate Exit Exam (GEE); score a 15 or higher on the English and mathematics subsections of the ACT Plan Assessment; and have an approved '5-Year Education and Career Plan'.
