Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to four awards offered annually. The number of scholarships awarded each year is determined by the number and quality of applications.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be currently enrolled in his/her sophomore year in a four-year college or university.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  5. Must pursue a career in the dairy industry or a related occupation. Major areas include dairy production; dairy or agricultural economics or accounting; dairy research scientist; dairy genetics; dairy equipment; dairy feed or pharmaceutical marketing or sales; dairy consultant; dairy extension or university dairy professor.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. college sophomores who plan to pursue careers in the dairy industry are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Application requirements for the NDS Sophomore Merit Scholarship are:

Additional Information: These scholarships are provided to encourage undergraduate sophomore students to pursue careers in the dairy industry. Scholarships are based on leadership, activities, academic ability, and interests in the dairy industry. The scholarship will be paid when the winners are recognized at the National Dairy Shrine Awards Banquet.

Award Amount: One $1,500 award and up to three $1,000 awards offered annually. Awards are non-renewable. Previous scholarship winners may not reapply; previous applicants who did not win a scholarship may reapply if still qualified.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,125.

Applications are available on the National Dairy Shrine (NDS) website. Each student should download the application and type in his/her responses. The file should then be saved as Soph.Last Name.First Name.doc and emailed to the address provided. The applicant must also submit two letters of recommendation, at least one of which must be from a faculty member who is familiar with his/her activities and academic achievements, and an official transcript showing all college courses and grades. The letters must be emailed to the address provided, and the transcript must be mailed to the address provided. (Only one transcript is required for all scholarships for which the student wishes to apply, although separate applications must be submitted.) Applications must be submitted by midnight CST on the deadline date.
