Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students will be considered as long as funding is sufficient.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen for 12 consecutive months immediately preceding the first day of classes of the school term for which the HOPE Grant is sought.
  3. Must be a legal resident of Georgia.
  4. Must be enrolled in a program of study leading to a technical certificate or diploma.
  5. Must attend an eligible public college or university in Georgia.

Description: This award is available to U.S. undergraduate students who are residents of Georgia who are attending an eligible college or university in Georgia. The student must be seeking a technical certificate or diploma.

Additional Information: The HOPE Grant Program provides grant assistance to residents of Georgia pursuing Certificates or Diplomas at Georgia’s public postsecondary institutions. Students are not required to graduate from high school with a specific grade point average. However, students are required to have a minimum postsecondary cumulative grade point average of 3.00 at certain Checkpoints. The purpose of the HOPE Grant Program is to encourage Georgians to obtain technical training in order to increase the knowledge and skills of Georgia’s workforce. An eligible student seeking a Certificate or Diploma from a Technical College System of Georgia or University System of Georgia institution may receive HOPE Grant funds as determined by the Commission. In addition to all other eligibility requirements, the student must meet the following criteria: be in compliance with Selective Service registration requirements; be in compliance with the Georgia Drug-Free Postsecondary Education Act of 1990 (the student may be ineligible if he/she has been convicted for committing certain felony offenses involving marijuana, controlled substances, or dangerous drugs); not be in default or owe a refund on a student financial aid program; and maintain satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the college.

Award Amount: The HOPE Scholarship covers a percentage of the tuition cost at eligible public colleges or universities within the University System of Georgia or Technical College System of Georgia. For the current academic year, award amounts range from $911 to $3,181 annually. To determine the exact award amount visit the Georgia Student Finance Commission Students website. Recipients are eligible to continue receiving awards until he/she has attempted 127 semester (190 quarter) hours of college degree credit or until the completion of a baccalaureate degree, whichever comes first.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,015.
