Additional Information: The Salifu Sesay Perseverance Scholarship is provided in memory of Salifu Sesay. As a child, Salifu survived a brutal attack on his village in Sierra Leone, and was eventually brought to the University of Kansas for treatment. Upon adoption by a local family in the Olathe area, Salifu became known as a kind-hearted, generous, and always optimistic young man. Tragically, his time on this Earth was cut short in his 21st year of life, but each year a scholarship is provided in his name to a young student who exemplifies his qualities. This scholarship is administered through the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation (GKCCF), a local area charity founded in 1978 with the purpose of providing a dedicated and consolidated resource for diverse and otherwise unrelated charity efforts. From its humble beginnings, the scope of the GKCCF has expanded to include the broader regional area, as well as national inititatives, scholarships, and other programs designed to benefit communities across the country.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.
