Number of Awards & Eligibility: One or more awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be 16 years of age or older.
  4. Must be a resident of Oregon.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher if currently enrolled in high school or college. If not currently enrolled, the student must have completed the GED or graduated from high school.
  6. Must have successfully flown solo in a single- or multi-engine land airplane, and must pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test before scholarship funds will be released.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Oregon residents who are 16 years of age or older that plan to pursue private pilot flight training. Students must have previously flown solo successfully in a single- or multi-engine airplane, and must pass the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge Test before funds are released.

Application requirements for the Raymond Meyer Memorial Flight Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Finalists may be asked to interview with the Raymond Meyer Memorial Flight (RMMF) Scholarship Committee. Scholarships are awarded no later than June 1 at the OPA Annual Meeting and Conference. Scholarship funds are to be used exclusively for aircraft rental and/or flight instruction. The student's FBO or Flight Instructor must provide for a detailed accounting of the expenditures using scholarship funds upon request of the scholarship committee. Any scholarship funds not utilized for their intended purpose within one year of the award date must be returned to the RMMF Scholarship unless an extension has been approved by the RMMF scholarship committee.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online on the Oregon Pilots Association - Air Safety and Education Foundation (OPA-ASEF) website after Feb. 1. Please note: If the applicant is not already a member of the Oregon Pilots Association, he/she must join prior to applying. Student pilot membership is free. Membership information is available online at oregonpilot.org/membership.html. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following: proof of age (a copy of his/her Oregon driver's license or other similar government-issued ID); proof that he/she successfully piloted solo in a single- or multi-engine land airplane; proof of his/her grade point average, if currently enrolled; proof of his/her GED completion or high school graduation, if not currently enrolled; and an essay explaining why he/she wants to learn to fly or acquire an advanced rating, and how the scholarship will assist in achieving that goal. All application materials must be mailed to the address provided by the deadline date.
