Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. There will be 133 awards given this year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associate's degree, or a first bachelor's degree.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must be 35 years of age or older as of March 1 of the year of application.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must demonstrate financial need. Families cannot make more than the amounts described within the application guidelines.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. women who are 35 years of age or older as of March 1, 2019. Students must be pursuing a technical/vocational education, an associate's degree, or a first bachelor's degree. The student's family must have an annual income that meets the described financial need guidelines.

Additional Information: The Jeannette Rankin Foundation (JRF) raises funds for and awards scholarships annually to women 35 years of age and older who through undergraduate or vocational education are seeking to better themselves, their families, and their communities. In working toward these ends, JRF continues the legacy of Jeannette Rankin, the first woman elected to Congress and a proponent of peace and women's and children's rights. In addition to the meeting the eligibility requirements, the JRF also takes the following into consideration: realistic goals and the ability to accomplish these goals, individual courage in dealing with difficult situations, the information provided in the letters of recommendation, and the thoughtfulness with which the personal statement has been prepared. The JRF awards are not open to students who already have a degree at the bachelor's level or above.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. This amount may change each year. The award is disbursed over two terms.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications will be available on the Jeannette Rankin Foundation (JRF) website from November through March. Interested students can also send a self-addressed stamped envelope to the address shown on the website to request an application. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit a personal statement addressing the questions listed on the application, two letters of recommendation, proof of college enrollment or acceptance, financial information, and two complete sets of all application materials. Applications must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
