Award Amount
The actual amount of each student's grant is determined by a combination of family resources, the cost of attendance of the independent college selected, and the amount of funding available. Based on the award amounts from the previous academic year, average awards were for aproximately $2,600 annually. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years provided the student makes satisfactory progress towards graduation, applies prior to the June 30 deadline annually, continues to demonstrate financial need, meets all other eligibility requirements, and provided funds are available.
Recipients
Approximately 14,200 awards are offered annually.
Additional Information
The SC Tuition Grants Program is administered by the SC Higher Education Tuition Grants Commission through an annual appropriation by the State General Assembly. The program's purpose is to provide need-based grant assistance to eligible South Carolina undergraduate students attending, on a full time basis, eligible independent non-profit in-state colleges. Because the South Carolina Tuition Grant is based on financial need, the Commission calculates financial eligibility based on the following factors: (1) family income, (2) family assets, (3) cost of the college selected, (4) number of family members in the household, and (5) the number of household members attending college. Students should contact his/her institution's financial aid office for additional details. Awards are contingent on funding of the program by the SC General Assembly.
