Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, three fellowships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must attend one of the following Montana Consortium campuses: Blackfeet Community College, Carroll College, Chief Dull Knife College, Fort Belknap College, Fort Peck Community College, Little Big Horn College, MSU-Billings, MSU-Bozeman, MSU-Northern, Montana Tech, Rocky Mountain College, Salish Kootenai College, Stone Child College, the University of Great Falls, the University of Montana or the University of Montana-Western.
  4. Must be enrolled in a field of study relevant to NASA's mission. These fields include (but are not necessarily limited to): the biological and life sciences, chemistry, geological and planetary sciences, physics and astronomy, mathematics, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, electrical engineering, and the computer sciences.
  5. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a graduate program of study.

Additional Information: The Montana Space Grant Consortium (MSGC) awards scholarships on a competitive basis to students enrolled in fields of study related to NASA's mission. Please note: If the applicant is awarded an MSGC Fellowship, he/she must not seek or accept other forms of support during the period of the fellowship award (i.e. graduate teaching or research assistantships, or other fellowships).

Award Amount: $9,000 annually, plus in-state tuition of approximately $7,200. This award is not automatically renewable. Recipients may be able to renew their awards but that will be determined by the committee on a competitive basis. All award recipients must agree to provide MSGC with information about their studies and/or employment on request beyond the period of the award. (This is part of a NASA requirement to track the long-range effectiveness of the fellowship program.)  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $16,200.

Applications are available on the Montana Space Grant Consortium (MSGC) website or may be obtained from the applicant's institutional representative. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: a copy of his/her official graduate school transcript (an entering or first-year graduate student must also include a copy of his/her official undergraduate transcript); a short (four page maximum) typed statement of his/her educational and career goals and interests, and how they relate to the fields of science and engineering related to NASA's mission; and one or more letters of recommendation (preferably one from the applicant's graduate research advisor) sent directly to the consortium office by the deadline. The applicant should review the application for further details about the required application materials.All application materials must be received by the deadline.
