Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must plan to study civil engineering.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must attend a Maine high school.
  6. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for Maine high school seniors who plan to study civil engineering. Students must be residents of Maine and attend a Maine high school.

Application requirements for the ASCE (Maine Section) Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (3)
  • References (3)
Additional Information: The recipients will be selected based on the following: academic performance in high school, participation in extracurricular activities, his/her letters of recommendation, and his/her statement of interest in civil engineering. Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply for this scholarship.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available from high school guidance offices or by contacting the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Maine Section using the contact information provided. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a transcript from each high school attended; a 200-word statement describing why he/she has chosen civil engineering as a career and what he/she hopes to accomplish by being a civil engineer; and contact information for three references. These references must each write a letter of recommendation and send it directly to ASCE using the address provided. Two of the references should be high school teachers, and the third should be from a responsible community member who is not from the student's high school. The application and all supporting materials (including the letters of reference) must be received by the deadline date.
