Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. TELACU awards hundreds of scholarships.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be 100 percent Latino(a).
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  5. Must be a first-generation college student.
  6. Must enroll full time.
  7. Must be a permanent resident of one of the following areas: East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, Baldwin Park, Bell Gardens, Commerce, Huntington Park, the city of Los Angeles, Montebello, Ontario, Pico Rivera, Pomona, South Gate, Santa Ana, or San Bernardino, California; San Antonio, Austin, Laredo, Edinburg, or Rio Grande City, Texas; the Greater Chicagoland area, Illinois; or New York state.
  8. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

Description: The TELACU Education Foundation combines important financial assistance with highly effective programs that aim to ensure students’ academic success. It was originally set up to revitalize urban, underserved areas throughout the US. The College Success Program is funded by TELACU and their partner businesses, colleges, universities, nonprofits and private donors. Historically, about 75% of TELACU Scholars earn degrees in a STEM-related or Business discipline. They have also awarded scholarships to nearly 400 first-generation Latinx college students from underserved communities in California, Illinois, Texas, and New York. Applicants entering college as first-year students are eligible to apply for an Award that can be renewed for up to four years.

Application requirements for the College Success Program are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • SAT/ACT scores
  • FAFSA
Additional Information: Applicants entering college as first-year students are eligible to apply for an Award that can be renewed for up to four years. Scholars currently enrolled in the Program are eligible to renew their Award if they: • Maintained a minimum 2.75 GPA • Attended school full-time for the entire academic year • Attended all events and Sessions conducted by the Program (Scholars attending school out of state or the local area are not required to attend in person) • Volunteered a minimum of 20 hours of community service • Plan to be enrolled full-time for the entire academic year

Award Amount: $500 to $5,000 annually, renewable for three years if the recipient is entering college for the first time and maintains a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. Students who are already enrolled in college at time of application are eligible for a one-time award.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $11,000.
