Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award. Transfer students are eligible.
  4. Must plan to attend Concordia College in Minnesota.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must declare a general art or art history major by the end of his/her sophomore year.

Description: U.S. graduating high school seniors or transfer students who have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and plan to attend Concordia College in Minnesota are eligible for this award. Students must declare a general art or art history major.

Application requirements for the Concordia College Visual Arts Scholarship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Application form
  • Resume
  • Portfolio/Essay
Additional Information: If the applicant is selected, he/she is expected to declare at least a general art or art history major by the end of his/her sophomore year. Each recipient following a studio art track will be expected to produce work for the annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. An art history student will be encouraged to submit proposals for the Orland J. Rourke Memorial Lecture Series in the Philosophy and History of Art and to participate in the department’s yearly May Seminar to Europe.

Award Amount: $8,000 to $32,000 annually, renewable for up to three years as long as the recipient maintains a grade point average of 3.0 and is recommended by faculty.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $80,000.

Applications are available online from the Concordia College website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a resume, 250-word essay, a digital portfolio, and the names and email addresses of two references. If the applicant's interest is in art history or museum studies, he/she may submit an essay in lieu of the portfolio. All materials should be submitted via the online application form. If for any reason the applicant is unable to complete the process online, he/she may request a printed copy of the application. All materials must be submitted by Jan. 14. Interviews will be conducted in February.
