Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. This year, eleven scholarships will be awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a female.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  4. Must plan to attend Bucknell University or Rensselaer Polytechnic University.
  5. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must be an incoming or current college freshman at time of application.
  7. Must major in engineering (any field).

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for female high school seniors and current freshmen who plan to major in engineering full time at Bucknell University or Rensselaer Polytechnic University.

Additional Information: Applicants cannot be receiving full funding for education (tuition, fees, and books or equivalent) from their school or another organization (e.g., members of the Armed Services attending U.S. military academies, students receiving full reimbursement from an employer). Applicants must enroll in a program accredited by ABET. Accreditation information for specific programs is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, renewable for three additional years as long as the recipient maintains a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications must be completed online at the Society of Women Engineers (SWE) website and are available between March 1 and May 1. In addition to completing the online application, the student must upload the following documents: current official transcripts from all schools attended; a letter of acceptance to an ABET-accredited college or university (if a transfer student or first-year graduate student); and a resume. The student must also submit email contact information for two letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher or college professor in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) field who is familiar with the student's work. The other letter must be from a person who has known the student for two or more years and who is not a relative or member of the student's family. Recommenders will be sent information regarding submission of their letters; the letters are due approximately one week after the student's application deadline. The online application and all required supporting materials must be submitted by 5 p.m. CT on the deadline date.
