Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must have an annual family income of $58,720 or less.
  4. Must be in the top 25 percent of his/her graduating class.
  5. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student.
  6. Must be attending a public high school inside the North Dallas Bank & Trust Company trade area (a list of eligible schools is available on the North Dallas Bank & Trust Company website).
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  8. Must be a high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: High school seniors who have a grade point avearage of 3.0 or higher and are in the top 25 percent of their graduating class are eligible for this award. Students must be attending high schools located inside the North Dallas Bank & Trust Company service area and have a annual family income no higher than $58,720.

Application requirements for the James W. Tyra Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Personal statement
Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate financial need. Selection will be judged by an internal North Dallas Bank committee, representing a cross-section of the bank's communities. The decision of the committee will be final. The bank will notify all recipients. Family members and employees of North Dallas Bank and its affiliates are not eligible.

Award Amount: Up to $1,000 annually, renewable for three years as long as satisfactory academic progress is maintained. The student must submit transcripts prior to the completion of each year of class, as failure to do so will result in loss of the scholarship.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

The deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to be the same as last year. The date shown here is tentative based on last year's deadline. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Additional information regarding this award is available online from the North Dallas Bank & Trust Company website. In order to apply for this award, each student must complete the scholarship application available in the counselor's office of his/her high school. Each applicant must be recommended by his/her high school counselor or principal. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a current official transcript, two letters of recommendation (one from a high school teacher, counselor, or principal and one from a community member), and a letter outlining his/her personal and educational goals including all sources of financing for education and any other information the student would like to share with the committee. The application and all supporting materials must be postmarked by April 1 and received by 5:00 p.m. CST on April 8.
