Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be an active tennis player. Preference may be given to USTA/Hawai'i Pacific Section members.
  3. Must be a female.
  4. Must be a resident of Hawaii.
  5. Must plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester).
  6. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  8. Must be an incoming freshman.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for female high school seniors who are residents of Hawaii and have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher. Students must be active tennis players; preference may be given to USTA/Hawai'i Pacific Section members.

Additional Information: The scholarship is a memorial to Jean Fitzgerald who was a very active participant in the Hawai'i Pacific Tennis Association. Jean felt it was important for young tennis players to pursue higher education in order to augment their tennis skills and be successful in other arenas besides the tennis court. All applicants must demonstrate financial need and good moral character. Recipients will be notified after the scholarship selection committees meet, which could be any time between May and August.

Award Amount: $3,500 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed at the provider's website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST on the deadline date. A student will not be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application.
